Axl on his prime was completely insane! No one could do better than he did. Just look at the crowd, the guy is a complete frontman. He is in a place where only very few people are.

Time goes by... This was almost 30 years ago, but I remember the concert clearly. I watched it with a couple of friends. We were all Queen fans to a degree, and we had watched the Live Aid concert from 1985, too, where Mercury was just fantastic. Now, he was gone, and other people sang "his" songs, and it was a great show. The duet of Annie Lennox and David Bowie singing "Under Pressure" - amazing. Zucchero sang, and Robert Plant did a sort of mash up with Queen and... And this one. No, it's not a song for Elton John's voice. But - he's Elton John! We loved it. Then the iconic silhouetto" part came up and after that, Axl Rose burst onto the stage, just wow! What a presence, what intensity. And he stood beside Brian May for the guitar part... And then he walked towards Elton John like a force of nature - for a long moment, we were really wondering what would happen. And then they sang together, looked at each other, Elton John reached out for Rose, almost tentatively. When it was over, we looked at each other and one of us said something like "that just happened...". And we laughed. And it was great. I still watch it from time to time...

@Ulrich von Bek Hey, great to hear from you, thought we had frightened you off. We have been having a bit of a Bohemian Rhapsody Monday, as we gave the Metal Monday a rest for a while. We have so far done 8 other covers and the final one will be next week. It has been fun and we found so good, interesting and also very talented artists along the way This was great from a pure nostalgia point of view and just goes to show, no matter who the singers are, they don't do it like Freddie. I also remember watching this and Annie & George we very good. Also, as mentioned by another comment, Lisa Stanfield, she had a great Soul voice. Hope to see you around and join in the fun, as you know we go all over the place. Cheers for now

Hi guys, the singing wasn’t great but it was still a wonderful performance Axle did a brilliant job without rehearsal, such Energy. I still think if I’m honest and without bias that Pentatonx sounded closest to the original. 2nd and 3rd were also brilliant but were just instrumental. Let’s see what next week brings. Thanks for sharing this video 🤗🤗🤗

How the hell did I forget this one? Very cool throw back and tribute! Ahhhh....Men in kilts, I love it! I wish more men were confident enough to wear 'em. God bless Marko, Axl, and the dudes at the Highland Games in Patrick County VA. Is it Scotland where they wear them?
@BritPopsReact

@Chuey's Mama Yes, indeed it is Scotland where they wear kilts, the coldest place in the UK.. 😁 This was great one to see, may not be the best ever, but a great tribute... Thanks for watching

@@BritPopsReact Can't go wrong with Sir Elton. Hey, lets get B1 a kilt, hell, both of you need kilts! If I could get my husband to wear one it would be sweet! He really has nice legs.

@Peter Richards Nope, neither were we, I do remember it being on and George Michael doing a great job, as did Annie Lennox and Lisa Stansfield. This was nice to revisit and deserves to be in our round up of Bohemian's Onto the final next week..

I have to agree with you on the feels... Man, what people would have given to be at that concert. I think this was a great pick for Mohemian Monday, a very clever one! Kind of makes you look back and re-evaluate the others. Sneaky, but lovely! if that's a thing! Thanks, gentlemen!

@Srikanth Srinivas Thankyou for watching and yes, we had to include that one, it may not have been the best cover, but it sure brought back the memories and that band we excellent... One more to go and we will give our final closing thoughts on all the covers. Hope you manage to pop back for that one. Thanks for all your comments too.

How did I see this one pop up before now? Absolutely amazing tribute. Of course, the vocal isn't close but since it's Elton it makes the grade. Adding in the original was very cool. Axl didn't do that bad of a job considering his voice is completely different than Freddie's. He and Elton's voice didn't blend too badly. What was the capacity of the original venue? It was obviously packed.

I agree with @Lord Lockdowns Jukebox; vocally 'ify' but very touching. I remember watching this 'live' on TV. I'm an Annie Lennox fan, so I liked Queen + David Bowie and Annie Lennox "Under Pressure" a *lot.* George Michael sang three songs. His duet with Lisa Stansfield (a soulful R&B voice from Rochdale!) was great. However, "Queen & George Michael - Somebody to Love (The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert)" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UvM2Cmi-YRU.html was phenomenal. I'd never imagined George Michael was comparable to Freddie Mercury. However, George wasn't far behind. Brill! Maybe morph Mohemian Monday into a wider range of Queen covers during the run up to Christmas?

@Lord Lockdowns Jukebox Yup, we do agree, but we thought it would be nice to include that in our round up in our small Bohemian section. It was great to see and that band sounded just like the original, they could do well.

Poor old Elton - he's no Freddie. He had to keep on using the wrong octave to stay in his own limited range. Paul Rodgers is the best front man they've had to front the remainder of Queen. The crowd made it fun though. Unfortunately the best bit was when they played the recording of Freddie himself.
@BritPopsReact

@donepearce Yes, inded also Axl was entertaining and fair play he remembered most of the words, as he was off his bits!

So I'm torn, because I really want to love it because it's QUEEN, but Elton just looked uncomfortable, which made ME feel uncomfortable. I bet the atmosphere there was electric to experience in person though. Hang on, here comes Axle (or is it Axl?)...umm. Full of energy as is his forte, and doing his screechy- singing thingy. Sometimes I think he's just a bit overboard. I mean Freddie was over the top many a time, but his vocals were always sublime. Axle (or Axl) actually sounds pretty good when he's not screeching, but it's kind of inconsistent. Anywho, it gets an almost 9 out of 10 from me (and only because Queen were involved). The uncomfortable crooner and energized screecher killed it a bit for me...
@BritPopsReact
@BritPopsReact 2 года назад
@EnderOllie 4 We had to include it, well it's Queen innit. Elton could not really compete, George did a great job on his song that day. As for Axl, it is that spelling, keeps it simple for autographs I guess.🤣 He was well off somewhere else and yup, when he does sing he had a great voice, maybe the day and the substances got the better of him. We gave it the big marks for the nostalgia, but the final leader board will be revealed next Monday. Thanks for checking this one out. Hope all your Xmas plans are on track and the queues in your shop not too long..

10/10? What are you scoring here? Queen, or the version as sung by Elton J and Axl Rose? Got carried away by nostalgia and the crowd eh? cos Elton and Axl combined were only worth an 8.8 imo 😅. I remember watching this on TV. Out of the whole tribute line up, George Micheal was the ONLY one who did Freddie and Queen justice. He was fantastic! However, PTX…the whole song….no instruments? Just saying. 😁👍

@Faith Reasons LOL, well, we could not score the original Queen members less than "Bangin" that would have got us banned from the "Tube" Only one left to go and we will reveal of final thoughts in the only fitting way we know. Stay tuned.
