@@heejunglee9685 I'd guess they're either in a different life stage (older than the standard Gibdo) or they're part of a different "caste." The boss is called the "Queen" and the Gibdos themselves are usually in groups, so they seem to be kind of like social insects on some level, even though a lot of the visual design of the Queen might be a bit more like a locust or cockroach. Social insects often have different "castes" in which different members of the colony have different body shapes depending on their role, for example soldier termites are larger and have bigger mandibles (those pincher mouthparts) than normal workers so that they can fight and defend the colony.
There is a hidden mechanic in the game, where every defeated boss adds to the world enemy difficulty meter so doing the lightning boss first is easier than doing it last cause you’ve just been adding health points to it if you do it last
Imagine coming into this fight straight after getting the paraglider, with no inventory slot upgrades from Hestu, and dying at least 8 times before even getting to Phase 2. Yeah, couldn't have been me...
@nategwright lol same then I ended up having trouble with fireblight later cause I was used to fast flurry timing by then not overly telegraphed flurry timing
I will never forget the gibdos during this fight. At this point in the temple I felt like I saw everything those freaks had to offer. Then this fight they were crawling rapidly through the sand and I had the fear of God put back in me
The tune reminds me of a blend of the indian raga and something arabian. I did indian classical vocals for a decade and this shit reminds me of raag bhairav
I didn't find any issues with the controls, but this was no doubt the hardest Main Quest boss fight for me. The latter phase with all the Gibdo was super overwhelming.
Buy the sand boots before the battle, eat tier 3 speed food/elixir and keep spamming Riju (lightning) and Yunobo (fire), hide the others if you have them. The fight is fun.
This boss fight was what I can best describe as fighting an accurate zombie horde. You wouldn't necessarily want to just expend effort and ammo slashing and shooting the undead. The correct way would be burning them as to soften them up then strike.
I an imagine if this were an anime you could see Urbosa and Riju fighting synchronized and that at the end of the battle with a killing blow from Riju, Riju could hear a snap coming from Urbosa's fingers, that would be the first time Riju, without Link's help, hit her target with a bolt of strong lightening.
This is my favorite boss, hands down. I have a soft spot for enemy designs that are genuinely unsettling, especially if they're insect or arachnid themed. I also like mushrooms so the Gibdo "pupae" were great as well, especially with the horrifying way in which they open. I love the Queen Gibdo's weird insect-like scuttling, and her charge attack actually had me saying out loud "NOPE NOPE NOPE." And I love her gross wings, that horrible droning sound evokes this deep level of... well, somewhere between horror and disgust. ...in fact she kinda makes me think a little bit about the huge Twilight Insect from Twilight Princess. The miniboss one from Lanayru. That was also a delightfully awful creature.
