It's a great song. It starts off with the singer dramatically announcing there's no reason to go on in life after a break-up, then within his mourning, he realizes how much effort lasting relationships take throughout the song. At the last chorus, the lyrics have changed to a more optimistic outlook, as he moves on without regret, instead reflecting back on the break-up as a lesson learned in life.
Josh Katz, Shaun Morgan, and Benjamin Tod. All of them are masterful lyricists and vocalists, so although Mercury's personality and charm shall remain unrivaled for decades to come, there are certainly men who have not surpassed, but reached similar levels as, the legendary Mercury. It exists, you just have to look very hard to find it. But yes, your point stands, Freddie Mercury is a legendary performer, musician, and charmer, whose pure vocals will remain unchallenged possibly forever, but certainly for the time being, as his application of his voice, his vocal range, and overall skill makes him an absolute legend.
I’m gonna do my best to keep his music style going, i find we are quite similar. We both have messed up teeth, my front teeth are huge, but it helps me sing, eerily similar. I hope you’ll remember the last name “Donovan” when one day i am playing in a stadium with people singing my songs back to me. ❤️
Freddie connected with crowds like few others could/can. Queen still holds the record for largest sold out concert audience in music history! That's what happens when you're a legend!
I've been in a relationship for almost 5 years. We fell in love when we were 14, but now we're 19 and everything's falling apart. We loved each other deeply, we still do: we grew up together and we became who we are now also because of our relationship and all the time we spent together. We decided to break up because we are too different, and we aren't able to make each other happy anymore. It hurts. It hurts a lot. I cry every night because I miss him, and I know I always will. But this song saves me: Freddie is telling me that everything will be alright, because, even if it hurts, I have to look at the time I spent with him and be happy. Because it is true: "I did it for love". And love is never something to regret. Always go on and keep your head up, life is hard but beautiful. Love you all (Sorry for my English, I'm Italian)
I hope you fall in love again with him again, your story sounds sad but deep inside is truly and rightful love. ( by the way, your english is fairly good)
Listen to the end; he ends on a hopeful and positive note; and for Freddie it went after this breakup; he met Jim Hutton, and was in a loving relationship for 7 years till he died.
Brett Reid , you are the shit. I love your attitude. "I want it all", kicks me in the ribs. Adam Lambert stepping into Freddies shoes kicks the fucking doors, and roofs off the stadiums. "We will rock you" is a not a pun, rather the God given truth.
A true follower of Lord Mercury never cries, but instead dies with dignity and power. And also sleeps with half of the known universe. Truly, Mercury was the Jack Nicholson of the U.K.
If you think about it, Fredy's words were always strong and full of love and passion. It was always true and easy to relate to. His voice carries on strong!
So many new fans exploring Queen's catalogue for the first time because of the movie all saying why wasn't this song or that song in the film. The answer....well it's a 2 and half hour film and they made so many great songs that they can't fit them all in. Be happy that the movie is making you now realise what a fucking awesome, brilliant band Queen were.
You have earned my respect. My parents are the same way, though not broken hearted -- simply depressed, and have been for decades. But I'm grateful and feel so lucky to simple just have them, and know they love me enough to stay. Thank you!
Antonio Fernandez Carriedo I am glad to hear of your happiness. Sadly my wife and I are separated and most likely headed for divorce. But we both love our 15 year son who loves his Parkour and astro physics. I see him all the time. I married her for love. I will always love her in a sense. But my love for my son will never fade away.
Stay in faith!be blessed! I am romanian and we have a very good musician who raised his boy on his own. After many years he met another love of his life and with her he has another three kids and they are happy, God bless them all! Pray and do ur best and i know it will be ok for you!
I love the progression.. it's like resurfacing from the bubbles with the warm winter sun on your face.. Damn.. I am nostalgic about something I never did or had
I've been listening to Queen for years now I'm 14. Freddie is just AMAZING. No words can describe how much he loved his fans and his voice is just... wow... I am speechless... Happy 65th birthday; my hero. You will live on forever.
The begining of the song is from Vesti la giubba aria. Ennio, kills her wife beacause an infidelity. If it starts this way there's only one meaning for "I did it for love"
This is easily one of the best Queen songs, and it's so underrated. First, it's someone who feels like they can't live because they're heart is broken, and then they say, "Huh. I can move on. I learned from this, and I apply it to my next relationship. It's a long, hard fight, but i'll pull through."
I agree; it's so sad but it ends on a positive note; Freddie's real state of mind; this song was about his German boyfriend Winnie and their eventual break up in 1985 but you can see at the end he is hopeful for love and it really did happen that he met Jim Hutton around this time, and they were happy for 7 years together.
"Its a long hard fight but I always live for tomorrow ; when I look back at myself I can say, I did it for love, yes I did it for love". Words to live by. Love you Freddie, your songs will live on forever.
This is a beautiful song in so many ways. I love when the drums kick in. I love Brian's riffs. I love Freddie's high voice and his soft voice. I love it all!
Possibly the greatest band of all time. All they're songs hit you in a different way with an array of different emotions. Absolute legends. RIP Freddie and bless Brian, John and Roger.
Dude was a wild man but still had that touch of British class at the same time...Calling people darling all the time...Dude was an enigma..Masculine man but still had that feminine side that showed through.
My GF left me, a several months ago, I 'm crying for real That was a long way, yet althought lot of hardship we faced, she left me. Freddie always right about it, via his song
i can relate to this song sssooo much, like why didn't i listen to it during my breakup??? Only Queen can help with these type of situations...Miss you Freddie
Freddie is such a great talent and has a voice that's far beyond the other lead singers of all other rock bands. You can always recognize his voice cause there's no one like him. His songs are so powerful and full of emotions. And together with Queen they are the best band in the world for all times.
You know children society is ruined when they don't know the classics. Queen, Styx, the Beatles, ACDC, Guns and Roses. I can't wait to see America in 50 years.
Yeah, and they watch movies like Fast and furious, play games like GTA 5, but the greats will always shadow, movies like Singing in the rain, 2001, games like Pong and oregon trail. There are some good kids like my friend Isaiah Estrada, the #1 fifties expert.
I'm a 15 year old and I'm one who will definitely show my children and people around me that this music is without computers. And that this mucks is ledenery. Rock on freddie and all the amazing bands like acdc guns and roses, meat lofe, Metallica and the amazing bands that will unfortunately die out with the forthcoming generation.
Freddie Mercury was not only the best singer and performer on stage but he wrote very deep and meaningful songs. This song isn't nearly as popular as their mainstream hits like Bohemian Rhapsody or We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions but it's one of their absolute best! Queen's songs are just as powerful now as they were back when they were first released.
"The opening lyric and melody of "It's a Hard Life" is based on the line "Ridi, Pagliaccio, sul tuo amore infranto!" (Laugh, clown, at your broken love!) from "Vesti la giubba", an aria from Ruggiero Leoncavallo's opera Pagliacci." :) Great song, Freddie is missed.
He, Freddie and the band has rythum. Impeccable rythum in words and instruments. They know what they are doing. They make so much sense and it all comes from the heart 💓💔❤️💓
Goddamn it. This song just so perfectly describes my life and breakup. I broke down in tears at "Oh i did it for love" because that is why I did all the things I did in the past three years. Got a nice car and a home for the two of us, now she is with some rich nerd and I am crushed by loneliness and debt.
Nice Music :) To whoever is reading this... I hope you have an amazing year, whatever year it is. I hope you can accomplish everything you want. I hope you are happy, whatever you are doing.
I listened to this song a lot at the beginning of quarantine and ever since it’s had some weird nostalgia vibes And, listening to this song again for the first time since April 2020 I realize the lyrics are a bit like early quarantine, in a way, or is it just me?
This is probably one of my favorite songs. You can really hear the range in Freddie's voice and the musical talent of the band as a whole. They inspire me!!!
One of their best 80's song with a quotation of Leoncavallo "Ridi pagliaccio" and a celestial melody that takes u through a rainbow of hope and inspiration. Really inspired an inspirin Freddie song, maybe he knew was ill..1984...7 yrs later he sadly died at only 45...Miss his genius..
"It's a hard life It's a long hard fight To trust in one another Right from the start This is a tricky situation I've only got myself to blame But I'll live for tomorrow "
