this is one of my very favorite song written by Freddie. His voice is amazing in this song and as weird as that costume is that he has on....he is absolutely gorgeous as always.
I think this is the most unique video Queen did. They pulled it off as only Queen could. So very creative! Brian, Roger and John weren't too happy about their costumes. Only Freddie could wear a costume like that. The other guys said he look like a giant prawn. I think he looked very Freddie. Also Freddie was still dealing a little with his knee injury. You can notice it at the end of the video when he sits down, he's a bit cautious. But Freddie's vocals are outstanding in this song. The whole band were great for that matter. I love these lyrics too- give me all the feels. One of my favorite Freddie penned songs. Great reaction. Thanks Faith, Thanks Bruce. Absolutely excellent lyrics beautifully sung. Brian says Freddie really poured himself (& it was personal) into writing this one. I love the lavishness of the video now. When it first came out, I thought it was just odd.
A little history about the costumes in this video. Freddie asked his godson, Freddie Mack (the son of music producer Reinhold Mack) what he would like for his birthday and he asked that Freddie turned up at his birthday party in his red eye costume that he wore for "It's a Hard Life" video and guess what he did. Apparently, he was more nervous about going into the room with a handful of kids than he was going out to a crowd of 150,000 people at the Queen concert in August 1986 at Knebworth!!!!! Check out photos on web so cute of him. Also, the lady who stood on Freddie's barefoot (towards the end of the video) was one of his best friends Barbara Valentin. Barbara was from Germany and really looked after Freddie when he was in recording in the studio in Munich, she often used act as interpreter for Freddie. Sadly, she is no longer with us.
Other small fact 😊 Following a fall, Freddie was injured his right knee before making this video ... if you look closely, he has a little trouble leaning on his leg! Some time later, his knee will drop during a concert (moreover he will still finish this concert sitting at the piano, despite the doctor telling him to stop) ... after that, he will keep his leg plastered for a long time ..... Elton John, who was one of Freddie's best friends, was in concert in Munich at that time ... Freddie went to see him with his plastered leg, and to make fun of his friend, on stage, Elton dedicated his new song of the moment "I'm still standing" to Freddie.
I have listened to Queen all my life, but watching their songs with you, I realize that I’ve barely hears a fraction of their music. Thank you for showing me more of their music. ❤️

Hey Faith this doesnt have anything to do about the song you just heard. I was wondering if you ever heard John sing. Well he doesnt sing by his self but he and Freddie share a mic and sing together on the song Liar. John has a bass solo that is amazing and its from the live concert that they did at the Rainbow in November of 1974. I just love to watch them back then because they were absolutely great then and before the success of Bohemian Rhapsody. I think you are going to like John's solo.
Freddie's costume was affectionately known as the prawn. Freddies previous lover Barbara Valentine is in the video and Brian's Skull guitar recently made an appearance at an exhibition. Yes the other guys disliked doing this video as it was ridiculous. This video reminds me of Rondo Venetziano, check them out
I love your reactions. I love this song by Queen. Roger, john and Brian hated the costumes for this video. I heard Roger just recently say something about those outfits. He said we looked more ridiculous in those costumes then anyone has ever looked in any video. LOL. Funny he stills feels that way all these years later. anyway , this is one of my favorite Queen songs. Can you react to Body Language, the official video. I love that song from Hot Space. The boys look really good in that video. Roger and Brian didn't like the song so much but John and Freddie wanted to try something new and it was the early 80's so dance music was really emerging and I'm sure on some level they wanted to be relevant to the times but it didn't work for them so much back then but I think it's a great album. Maybe they were ahead of their time in their music. I think that is part of what makes Queen great as well, so much of their music was a little ahead of its time while at the same time being relevant. What i mean by that is that some of their songs some 40 years plus later could be released today and be hits. Queen was just a whole other animal in the music world. They were constantly experimenting with new sounds and as you can see by now, their albums had so many different styles of music on the same album that their was something for everyone. You have already done several songs from that album, Backchat, calling all girls and cool cat but I'm not sure if you have done body language so please do it if you haven't already.
Find the video a little distracting from the words which are awesome as usual. Bet Freddie enjoyed portraying the excess of court life though. Brian still has that guitar - saw a video where he displayed it.
@Bobbi Lee yes, I also think so, they had a troublesome relationship, and broke apart about the time when Freddie wrote this song. His next boyfriend was Jim Hutton, his "husband" who stayed with Freddie until he died.
Brian is the one walking up the stairs with the coffin shaped guitar case. Freddie took inspiration from the opera Pagliacci for some of the costumes ideas and the idea of the pain of love. Roger, John and Brian all HATED the visuals and costumes. Though personally I adore Brian's costume. The skull guitar actually works and Brian still has it in his collection. Also, I know! Everyone’s going about their business like nothing is wrong, but the ‘Rona didn’t just stop or go away. There’s going to be another horrible wave hitting us. It frustrates me to no end that people don’t seem to care.
