In a wide-ranging interview with the Yahoo News show "Through Her Eyes," rapper, singer, actor and producer Queen Latifah discusses racism in America and changes that still need to be made in the music industry.
Queen Latifah is a beautiful black woman. I appreciate her art as an artist myself. She is a motivation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And a 90's genius and living legend
*I could listen to The Queen speak all day. She has such a lovely disposition. She's so truthful, gracious and classy. Those traits never go out of style.*
She's right about the era. I was a part of that creative force in the Hip Hop Culture, So when she said that the infrastructure sewn well for her to come in. Her sentiments were accurate. I remember back in 1979 being introduced to the two turntables and a mixer from an Caucasian Brother. So the culture was powerful at the time. Latifah is a trailblazer. She's also versatile.
I love it. I feel like prior generations gained self-esteem, inspiration to move forward while still being true to self from icons such as Queen Latifah. She never fails to be authentic and provide wisdom.
You’re the Queen of my teenage time back in the early 90ies! I’m so happy and thankful for this interview - so much to remember. ❤️🎶 .. you’re amazing!!
I didn't think anything could make me love her even more but then I saw this interview. Queen Latifah is a such a legend who truly built her own lane. Everything she said about mental health is spot on too. She makes me so proud to be a Jersey a girl and fellow alum from the same high school. ❤️
I think she is the most genuine, truely interested, accessible, kind, and humble female public figure in the media. She has not gotten to where she is by selling feel good stuff or gotten high profile jobs because she knows somebody.
I like Queen Latifah. She was a good rapper and she talked about female and male rappers respecting each other as people in the rap game. I like that she is a feminist. I am too.
Just such a remarkably wonderful and honest interview all around; which reminded me of a different time and way we used to be, which also left me feeling, this is how real adults and professionals conduct themselves!!! Hail to the Queen!!!
Great interview! Latifah Is an icon and has paved a way for so many, and has been if not the first the first female in entertainment to do what she has done...rapper, actress, singer, stage and do it with such class!
Queen Latifah rocks! I always hear the sweetest things about her from service industry workers. This includes make up artists, waitresses, etc., Everyone I know who has had a run-on with her has said she is an absolute doll! I love her mind! So smart! Preach girl!
MC Lyte, Roxanne shante, Salt n Pepa, Moni Love, Yo Yo, just to name a few female artist from her era who are still inspirations & still have morals. You may not hear too much about them but they were & still are powerful & intellectual woman
This interview somehow reminded me that during the investigation on Bill Cosby, some expressed the emotional difficulty we face seeing a public role model for decades charged with abusive crimes. But the truth is, there are still extraordinary people in the public light fighting for the cause they believe in through their work of art, in my opinion serves as true role model for ethics, equality, and beliefs. And Queen Latifah in this interview really represent the real Queen presence in my heart! Rosing from misogynistic music culture, evolving to different platforms carrying the same beliefs on gender and racial quality, ethical values, and giving back to community, now almost 3 decades. I think this is just a much better representation of role model for females or minority background or just everyone in general! And Yes! raising awareness on mental health issue is so important in our society today! You go Queen!
Queen Was always kept it real though her music and throughout her career she is a very intelligent woman great actress a woman of strength and integrity.
I've always loved Queen Latifah, can't believe it's been 30 yrs. that I've been following her career, WOW! What an accomplished woman! Much love & respect Queen 💜💛💚
Hello Ms. Latifah 👋🏾 I really enjoyed this interview! And THANK YOU for highlighting the MANY contributions of Black Americans to this country! Are you going to do the Hollywood Unlocked interview with Jason Lee?🙏🏽 I'm looking forward to it. Peace & Blessings
This was an awesome interview!! She is such a beautiful, humble, strong, intelligent, insightful, down to Earth sistah!! She hit the nail on the head on so many points. MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT DANA OWENS aka QUEEN LATIFAH!!!
WOW this was like a breath of fresh air finally a woman that's speaks and I completely agree with everything she's saying not to mention all the good vibes she's sending and such a calm gentle delivery, it's called humbleness and a lot of people fall shot of that these days great interview.
She is ahas and always be my IDOL. I’ve loved Queen Latina’s as an artist and person since I heard her rap and watch her movies and Living Single. I hope to meet her one day to tell her in person how as a WOMAN she has paved the way for change and unity in us all especially WOWEN ALL OVER THE WORLD. #TeamQueenLatifah
Why are people so quick to judge. The documentary- surviving R Kelly would have made sense if it came out after he was convicted but NO! It was done to destroy/slander him and divide the black community.
Queen Latifah is a beautiful person, down to earth , and a funny, talented artist. And, I did to know her home town was in Newark. I hope to meet her one day since I am so taken with the area of Newark as one of my favorite radio stations, WBGO, is located there. I agree with what she said about how important African culture and their intelligence should be respected in America as they have given so much to America. I very much support the community and have a very soft spot in my heart for them, especially, since I worked 20 years with Afro-American kids and kids with color in the inner city-Brooklyn High Schools and a few in South Florida. These are some of the reasons besides how I love people in general, why I am so proud to do paintings and collage reflecting my experience knowing them . Additionally, they have influenced my taste in music and fashion as well as have, on average, accepted me so many times as a teacher, mentor, neighbor, and, or friend, while I, on-goingly learn how very fair and highly, social they are.....and, that we have a strong commonality being such social and outgoing people, as I have learned I am sinceegen though I am a third generation American, I am from a Syrian/Romanian background. And, my ancestors, too, were slaves, so I feel deeply for them.
Annette Mendoza not really, because the media plays music that sounds the same. But there are still good music out there but most people won’t even have a chance to listen to them because they are hooked to what they are being offered.
Powerful interview. I love the questions that were asked. She made a great point about mental health, money is the root of evil and people need to not take it as a joke. I'm glad she cleared out the myth about entertainment industry and its companies.
Always have respect for the real Queen! ❤ She's been a consistent strong & real woman. Beautiful inside & out, positive, intelligent, artistic, super talented and a superb powerhouse!!! Represent!!!
Great interview👏👏👏 A woman in the industry exhibiting morals and decency. Integrity is everything. I would love to be a part of her team working on women's health and the housing project.💜
Definitely top 20 of all time for rappers just due to the fact she had dope rhymes. A Message. A pioneer in the game and paving the way for other female rappers to have that voice. Definitely the best female rapper of all time.
