Queen Latifah is from Newark, NJ aka Brick City💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 She also lived in East Orange, NJ. The guy who grabbed her ass is Vinnie aka Vin Rock from Naughty by Nature. They all were tight... I think she actually named their group!! Edit: The key around her neck in the video is a tribute to her brother who passed in a motorcycle accident.
The key in the beginning is a symbol of love to honor her brother who passed in a motorcycle accident. The key is actually the one to his bike I think.
Thank you because that's what she really wants people to celebrate...her brother died the day she was moving into the house she had bought for her, him and her mom. They were supposed to be riding together and she didn't go so it hurt her really bad
This always makes me want to watch Living Single afterwards! 💯 The way Kadijah jumped up like "Imma bout to set it off" when dude called Regine a 🤬 And Kyle kicked the guys out of his apartment so savagely. 😂😭 Sorry Gen Z if you don't even what I'm talking about. LOL 🤷🏾♀️
This sampled “a message from the inner city” by the crusaders. The motorcycle was a tribute to her brother Lancelot Owens, who died in a motorcycle accident. She’s wearing his motorcycle key as a necklace. She was also on a sitcom "Living Single" and was often seen wearing it on the show as well. Latifah can also sing her ass off. A lot of her choruses showcase her singing skills. She also has 2 albums that are just her singing. On those 2 albums, she did jazz styled cover songs Shes from new jersey. The line “like yo-yo, you don’t hear me though” is a reference to yo-yo’s song “black pearl”. Yo-yo was on brandy’s “i wanna be down” remix with latifah.
Kay gee produced this and he was in naughty by nature. He’s such an underrated producer. You should check out koffee brown -after party, kay gee produced that song as well . You will like it. Kay gee did next - too close, and next - wifey. He also did girl like you by Aaliyah. He did Zhané - hey mr dj. He’s done a lot and never gets credit.
This came out around the time she was doing Living Single. And speaking of Living Single, there was an episode on there where apart of this music video was played during the end credits.
@@alexiskeys9985 yes I couldn't agree with you more. A lot of these networks that show the reruns cut out the end credits smh. Thank goodness I have the DVD lol.
She’s from East orange/Newark New Jersey. She put the legendary group, Naughty by Nature on. Dem boys from Newark NJ. Remember, Queen Latifah came before Lauren Hill. Love dem both
By now you probably have the answers to your questions but she’s American but loves reggae. She’s from Newark, NJ. The key she caught in the beginning of the video was the key to her brothers motorcycle that she bought as a gift for him. He died in a motorcycle accident. She kept the key and wore it as a pendant.
Your facial expression within the first minute or so was everything 😍👌🏼☺️ New subscriber Thank you for speaking so real on this message. Much respect ❤️
Thanks for this reaction. This was the business when it came out. She’s a LEGEND, period ! The 90’s was lit back in the day with the beat and the bars.... She’s from New Jersey
Latifah is another Garden State great. She was born in Newark and grew up in East Orange. Video was shot in Newark as well (if I'm not mistaking). Brick City Stand Up! Thanks for reacting to this video!
YESSS 🔥 6:14 Queen Latifah is from Newark New Jersey. She lost her older brother Lancelot in a motorcycle accident. Sadly, she said in an interview that she had brought the motorcycle for him ☹ She honored him in this video with all the motorcycle scenes. One of the BEST MC's past or present 💯 great reaction Jack
Queen was an avid motorcyclist. She and her brother rode all the time. The key she caught at the beginning of the video was his motorcycle key. He was killed in an accident. She wore the key around her neck for a long time.

Omg! I'm screamin'. Been hoping you'd get to some Queen Latifah hits ....any female rapper from back in the day. I love this song, L "Ladies First", "Rough" (oh please listen to the unedited version of this song ft. KRS ONE, Heavy D., and Trench from Naughty by Nature), Latifah's had it up fo here" and "No Work". She has a jazz album or two. I guess she went for it after winner an award for the movie "Chicago". I miss her rapping though. She's a Jersey girl, through and through. I'm from N.Y. so we cousins. Lol.😄 I believe both her parents were born on America, so I think she is just American.
@@cheenjoopearl oh yeah. Also, "We got our own thing", "Now that we found love". Heavy was the next step in New Jack Swing that took it to higher popularity. Thank you Teddy Riley, Godfather and inventor of the NJS sound.
SO glad you finally got to the Queen! The message in this record is so, so real. Eve "Love is Blind" and Janet "What About" are also some VERY real songs with a very real message. You should take a listen sometime.
Dancehall has a strong influence on Hip Hop and vice versa. A lot of artists early on used Caribbean Inflections, even if they weren’t from those places. You’re getting a Lauryn Hill Vibe because she was in a whole Haitian group and did the same thing with her melodies.
Latifah is a part of a collective called NATIVE TONGUES...that includes A TRIBE CALLED QUEST and DE LA SOUL among others. I think you should to react to B.U.D.D.Y by all the members of NATIVE TONGUES to introduce yourself to all those groups. I think you'll like DE LA SOUL.
Omg! De La Soul's "Me, myself and I" was on heavy rotation for like 3 years or something. That song was everything to me, cuz it got me in that dance mood. And I like the message too. I ran into one of them in n.y. one day. I smiled, but he gave me that thanks but keeping low key right now, look...so, as any typical New Yorker would do, I kept it moving and respected his privacy. I ran into a different rapper as he was leaving a building and heading for his car. The face escapes me, so now I can't remember which rapper from back in the day, it was. I used to briefly work with my uncle's then wife (R.I.P.) in this cosmetics ad office, which was in the same building MTV used to be in before they moved to Time Square. Carnegie hall and the first Planet Hollywood was just a few blocks away from my office building. Those were exciting times. Lol
She's from New Jersey. That's where the video took place. And Queen Latifah has Jamaican roots. You should do "Just Another Day" by her. Thats her next biggest single.
This is what your queen of hip hop is supposed to look and sound like notice how powerful she is real hip hop she was the leader of the flavor unit treach used to work for her

Baad Video. She did that!! Video contained all the major factors- respect, unity, community, resilence... Absolutely love the involvement and excitement of the people in the video. It's just a tough, gritty, empowering video. I wonder where it was filmed.
What She Say What Absolutely True Dudes Nowadays Has Always Been Doing Us And Mistreat Us Like We A Whloe Bunch of Nothing Just To Make Them Be Something like They Better Than Us,That Why Love Queen Latifah For Being Bold and Speaking This Message U.N.I.T.Y Baby🎵✊🏾💕👩🏾🦱
