Of course Who Wants to Live Forever is like a dagger through the heart but Just One Year of Love also gets me every single time!!! i need a box of tissues nearby whenever i listen.
2:35 You can tell Brian May was really inspired when he wrote "Who wants to live forever." That scene, the moment you see her ravaged face and the lyrics going "when love must die..." That was just devastatingly haunting and lingered forever in my mind.
@@stephaniecampo954 to think, i had known bohemian rhapsody since 1975, by then, i was 22 (51 at time of writing this {10/08/20}), and since freddie mercury died, bohemian rhapsody has been elevated to a even higher level, and even been performed by orchestras and choirs, something that queen probably NEVER envisaged in 1975
Deacy was their freakin secret weapon....Brain, Freddy, and Roger all were amazing songwriters and John was generally in the background...then he busts out these songs that just make you stop and listen.
If Queen only knew how the movie and their song shaped my life...I am neraly 40 y old now , I was a kid when the film came out ...it is a kind of magic...
When the subject of a Highlander reboot comes up it is always asked, and I've heard Christopher Lambert, himself, say, "Where would the music come from"? It's acknowledged that the Queen tracks would be virtually impossible to improve on.
There's absolutely no way they could duplicate anything like the soundtrack. Besides the era of music and the film industry we are in it would be some crappy hip hop album or some rap in it. Either that or we get some Lady Gaga bs.
I love this album, the songs still are absolutely phenomenal today in 2021. I think that Queen in general is still so timely. They were absolute geniuses and still my favorite band.
Did anyone else start crying there at the end when Freddie was talking about still being in the music business when he was too out of shape to be running around on stage?
+Lisa M. Altemose YES, because i päused the video to look at the comments to see if anyone else felt the sadness and loss; freddie lived life on his own terms and accepted the consequences but it would have been nice if he had stuck around i don't think that man had realized what an effect his death would bring
This is a timeless movie and soundtrack. It has it all. It pulls you in to the adventure and compassion. The bonding friendship of two rivals. Then tears your heart out when he outlives Heather and fiercely loves her to the end. It takes you up and down the emotional scale. I never get tired of watching this movie. Even the music is great to listen to without movie. Great movie and music. :)
I feel like out of all of the interviews with freddie this is the one he seems the most open and like himself in. He doesnt feel like hes putting on some sort of show at all.
They were among those groups that had that extra something that they put into their music. Kansas had it tool. Steve Walsh put a lot of Mozart in what Kansas did and Freddie Mercury loved the opera and did not care for rock music but was able to put a bit of it in the music they did together. I think it's so cool and it fits in well. I don't really know if there is a name for it, but they are always going to be a part of the "Classic Rock" if not define it.
my father showed my highlander when i was a child... its one of my favorites cause of this band and not to mention i had Seen Mortal Kombat and played the game so seeing Christopher as Raiden made me love this movie more
Brian really nailed it with Who Wants To Live Forever which depicted the dark side of immortality. Although I think he meant to say people who will die as opposed to people who can.
it's... i'm not sure what the word is... that Freddy spoke about having to think of his future... the bit at 11:20 "i know there will be a time when i can't run around on stage..." there's something so painfully poetic about him not having to actually see that happen. oh, i'm not saying i'm happy he died. or even more so How he died. but that he died before he became irrelevant. he never faced what many aging actors and musicians do... that cut off point where what was interesting and flamboyant just became sad and garish. he never had to feel that moment that some in his profession do where they end up touring the equivalent of Las Vegas with hips replaced and moving with walkers or having their voices blown out and sounding like trash but people still pay to see them out of pity and nostalgia. he didn't have to go through that. and in a way, i think that was a gift for him. i really do. because i don't think he would have been happy as an old has-been. i can not imagine him as Being one. and i can't imagine he would ever have been able to either. we all would like to believe that he'd never have gone out of fashion, but let us not pretend that it hasn't happened to some of our other favorites before. t'is better that he didn't have to go through that than to be forced to retire instead of just being the beautiful bird of paradise that he rightfully was.
Have you seen a recent Queen concert? Brian and Roger aren't exactly using walkers, nor do they look out of place! And I have no doubt that Freddie is smiling down on them
Who is the interviewer with Freddie? He seems more relaxed in this interview than most others I've seen. (Side note: 08:44 - Roger's impression of John Hurt is spot on)
After the dctor diagnose freddie and found he had aids...freddie m.still mking songs..and my thought every song he wrotes was all about his life...sounds like his dieying too soon..or no hopes...to live longer anymore no chance at all...till he sung a song sying goodbye to all... This is my observtion about freddie...aftr he got aids till his death...it breaks my heart while wtching..reptdly his vdeos. Sorry fr my crocked english.
Interesting to see Freddie talk and think about his future here, thoughts that just one year later came to be greatly limited when he learned he had aids.
That era of musicians, including going back into the 70s and 60s, wasn't just filled with real artists, the artists were really bright people. You wouldn't know if Brian May (or J. Page) was a rock star or an accountant or a college teacher just from listening to him. But the current era is...Cardi B? No wonder kids are so screwed up.
