Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark's Speech Translated:
"Dear Mother,
In 1953, with the support of the Danes, you became heir to the throne and then Queen of Denmark in 1972.
From then on you took the helm of a kingdom that you had come to know from its shores. Because you walked ashore more than drove around as a child.
If there was a port, you also knew the town behind it. And, you were strong from the start like your father. It proved valuable with the fate of the Kingdom resting on your shoulders. Because it really is a bit like steering a ship.
It is about being able to read the wind and current conditions. It's about knowing your vessel and your crew. It's about finding your footing on the open sea.
If anyone, you have stayed the course. Not just by staring straight ahead, but by orienting yourself in what has been covered. You have probably remembered that the past contains the seeds for understanding the present. You have not only taken an interest in our history, but as the wise person you are, you have protected it as a decisive starting point for entering the future giftedly.
But, let me get back to being sea strong. Because you stand when others kneel in high seas. You have the courage to replace the ship with a dog sled when the sea is frozen over. And, it takes more than a little wind to shake you. Maybe because you have sailor blood in your veins. Maybe because you stand firm and cherish your roots. Maybe because you've let yourself be led by something bigger.
You are a versatile person. Your skills are broad. And your desire for knowledge and your sense of adventure have taken you far and wide. As a Captain, you have met the world with interest, openness and a steady gaze. From Heads of State to Royalty to Artists. Even when you met "The King" himself many years ago, Mr. Elvis Presley, you did it in usual unimpressed style.
You are yourself without being yourself enough and meet people sincerely, curiously, and enthusiastically. In other words, you have not let the cap obscure the view.
A lifetime of sailing will offer both choppy waters and rough seas. It cannot be avoided. Only a few days ago you lost a close friend on the other side of the North Sea. A confidential support over many years. It's the way of life.
Despite the vagaries of the sea, you stand strong on the bridge, you have a vision and you steer tirelessly towards new adventures and destinations. But, at milestones like today, we also feel the special joy of looking for our own port, it's like having Kronborg on the starboard side.
At Sea or at the port, the second in command reports ship and crew are ready. The machine is lubricated. Morale is high.
And, may I add, the commander and the deputy commander form a particularly excellent team. An inspired pair race with width and a number of years behind it. So many that you can be sure that when the time comes, I will steer the ship forward with what we have shared as Ballast. I will carry it forward with honor, with care, and with an eye that the stars will always shine and guide me as they have guided you and others before us.
The two of us have always complemented each other.
You are a woman. I am a man.
You paint. I exercise.
You dig for finds from the past. I buried myself in order not to be detected during my time in the defense.
You create images. I form partnerships.
You swing the fine brush. I got under the big beam.
You master the word. I miss it sometimes.
You are into classical music. I'm into rock.
You are strong. I inherited that. And, thank God for that.
For the ship, we share it, it is our responsibility. I follow you as you followed your father and as Christian will follow me. In this way, our lives overlap - fortunately - but you alone have the helm. The command has only one owner on the bridge between generations with the same mission.
So, you can be sure that I, as your Second-in-Command, stand right behind you. Loyal and full of respect for the journey you have taken and continue to take us all on.
Now, I will ask everyone to please rise and join me in proclaiming a ninefold life for the boss, our Queen.
Long Live Her Majesty!

That may the explanation, to why there is such a support from the nation og Denmark. There is a very High number of people that support the monarchy. I think very much, - just like people respected the late Queen Elisabeth - Margrethes cousin, they respect Margrethe (Daisy) I think they were very … should we or shouldn´t we still hold this party. (But it already has been postponed a few times) Now Margrethe is the longest reigning monarch alive today. - and like The Late Queen Elisabeth, she will remain at the helm until she is no longer, she wont step back because this is a life long job. So hopefully there will be many years until we get a King and Queen here (an Australien queen you could say) But it is a shame the recap here did not show how beutiful the other princess Marie is and was in her dress. Both princesses are very very beutiful woman. Very knowledgeable and very compasionate. - and highly respected. I think the Danes wished the grandkids were there also, they are a very handsome and beutifull bunch. - one is a model, the rest is still at school.

I so admire Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. My interest in Denmark, her people, and her customs began 45 years ago when I learned the art of Danish counted cross-stitch on Pawleys Island, South Carolina USA. I still enjoy morning stitching with coffee. My last year in law school, the subject I chose for my paper in the English Legal History course was the Danelaw and its influence on the law and land in England. Many placenames there go back to the Danelaw. It will be a comfort seeing Queen Margrethe II, Crown Prince Frederik, and Crown Princess Mary while watching the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday.

Queen Margrethe had her actual jubilee corresponding with the height of the Corona pandemic and the entire event had to be cancelled and postponed. So this was second attempt to celebrate her majesty. After the passing of Queen Elisabeth Queen Margrethe personally asked to reduce the planned celebrations in many ways. One of the events that she requested to be taken out was the horse carriage procession through Copenhagen where she was to be celebrated by the people of Denmark. An event many here looked forward to. But her majesty cancelled it (and other events), celebrating and cheering Danes, in the light of Queen Elisabeth´s passing, would have been inappropriate. It clearly was the right call, but it is a little sad that so many that wanted to show gratitude to the Queen for her 50 years of being such a loved representative, wont be able to do so. After the passing of Queen Elisabeth, the Danish Queen Margrethe the second are now the highest ranked in the global royal protocol. Queen Margrethe the second have reigned for 50 years at this point. Queen Margrethe the second, Crown prince Frederik, Crown princess Mary will all attend the funeral of Queen Elisabeth.

Count Ingolf is the Queens first cousin. He is the eldest son of Prince Knud, the younger brother of her father, King Frederik the IX. If the Constitution had not been changed in 1953 he would have been the King of Denmark today as Denmark at the time only recognized lineal primogeniture. It was changed, so that in case of no sons, the kings eldest daughter would become the heir to the throne. As the story goes, Prince Knud was less than pleased with that change, as the change ruled out his sons, but there was little he could do. Today no one disputes the change. Margrethe II has proven herself a most accomplished monarch who is loved, respected and admired by her subjects. She also has capable and well liked heirs in the wings to take over. Ingolf has no offspring so succession would have been a big issue as his younger brother Christian had three daughters, but no sons. Today, the rules of succession in Denmark have been changed to absolute primogeniture, but this does not affect the current heirs to the throne as Crown Prince Frederik’s eldest child is a boy, Prince Christian. However, if something sinister - God forbid - should ever happen to him, his sister Isabella would be the heir to the throne. She would not be bypassed by her younger brother Prince Vincent. It seems that several European royal houses today acknowledge absolute primogeniture but some dont. This applies to all three Scandinavian monarchies as the heir to throne in Sweden is Crown Princess Victoria and after her, her daughter Princess Estelle. In Norway, it will be Princess Ingrid who becomes queen when her father the current Crown Prince Haakon one day passes away.
@MTMF.london
@MTMF.london Год назад
If they are to modernize monarchies, absolute primogeniture is the way to do it. Why should only male heirs ascend to the throne or take precedence over female heirs who are pushed aside? Equality starts at the top.

In international and certainly in European context there is a custom to add ''His-Her Excellency'' before the title of a President of a Republic. So, the title of the Finnish President is ''His Excellency the President of Finland'' or more formally ''His Excellency the President of the Republic of Finland''. - All this as a hint.

😂 A Danish in Denmark is called wienerbrød - Vienna bread. In the 1700s bakers from Vienna emigrated to Denmark. They brought their bread recipes with them and eventually the pastries as we know them today evolved. In Austria however, Danish pastry is now known as Kopenhagener. Once, when visiting my American cousin in Minnesota, I came across “a Danish with cheese”. What a shocker! No self-respecting Dane would ever dream of putting cheese on a Danish pastry. That’s like putting peanut butter on a burger or something similar heinous. 😂

Queen Anna-Maria (Danish name Anne-Marie) and Princess Benedikte are the Queens two younger sisters. These ladies have been very close since early childhood. They are often seen in each other’s company especially the Queen and Princess Benedikte as they are now both widowed. Benedikte married a German prince and has two daughters, a son and four grandkids. She assists the Queen and is often seen participating on the Queens behalf at public events. Good effort on pronouncing Danish names and words. Like English Danish has many vowel sounds and to make matters worse 🤣 for poor hapless foreigners desperately attempting to learn our language, we have three additional vowels Ææ, Øø and Åå. Ø and Å are words in their own right as well as vowels used in other words. Ø is the word for island in Danish and we have more than five hundred of those, including the autonomous regions of Greenland 🇬🇱 and the Faroe Islands 🇫🇴. These regions together (Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands (Danmark, Grønland, Færøerne) make up the Kingdom of Denmark. The Queen is our Head of State and we are all full Danish citizens and travel on Danish passports. The Kingdom of Denmark is a constitutional monarchy. We are a democratic country with a parliament in Copenhagen -Folketinget - and a cabinet with a prime minister. Both Greenland and the Faroe Islands have local parliaments. Å is word for brook or stream.. sometimes the sound is written as a double AA such as in Aalborg, Aarhus, Aabenraa, cities in Jutland (Jylland) a region of Denmark with the only land border towards another country, Germany (that is if you don’t count Hans island in the Arctic between Canada and Denmark/Greenland). Until recently, this tiny island in the high Arctic with no population of any kind was the cause of a “heated diplomatic dispute” between Canada and Denmark. There was even a “war”. The Danish Navy would go to the island, hoist the Danish flag and leave a bottle of schnapps. The Canadians would then come along, take down the Danish flag, hoist a Canadian flag and leave a bottle of whiskey. Which would eventually lead the Danes back to the island, where they’d repeat the process: take down the Canadian flag, hoist the Danish and leave a new bottle of schnapps (snaps). Thus a “war” with recurring “battles”.🤣 This is how civilized countries fight. 😌😁 It’s really not a dispute about the island, but about what resources may lurk beneath the island. However, the border dispute has now been resolved.

How come you're learning Danish? Do you have Danish ancestry or did you decide to learn in because of your interest in the Danish Royal family? :)

It's interesting to see other monarchies in action. I am from Canada and of course we have always had strong ties to the British Monarchy but seldom hear any news of other monarchies. An interesting channel to keep me informed . Thankyou.

Thank you, Terry! :) Learning Danish has been a challenge, to say the least. However, I must say it's been fun learning another language. I still have a long way to go, but I'm trying. As of today, I can read Danish at a slight upper beginner level almost intermediate. I still have problems pronouncing various Danish words. Nonetheless, I am determined... :)

Let's hope no one would be that rude! I for one am so glad you tried your best. It sounds like it is a very difficult language to learn and Crown Princess Mary has all my respect for learning to do so. Thank you!

Hi Vicky! Hope all is well with you! :) Unfortunately, I have been receiving inappropriate comments that add nothing to the conversation as well as hurtful comments toward me. Nonetheless, learning Danish has been a challenge, yet fun at the same time. My hats off to Crown Princess Mary, Princess Marie and Countess Alexandra for learning the Danish language in such a short time. :)

You are strong. I inherited that is wrong, not sure if the word exists in english but Søstærk means sea stron aka being able to cope in high seas and so forth, having your sealegs is how I would say. This all fits with the ship/sea analogy.
@TheRoyalCorrespondent
@TheRoyalCorrespondent 2 года назад
Mange tak, Lars! Jeg har tænkt mig at skrive ordet, Søstærk, i min danskstudiebog. Jeg beklager, hvis mit dansk ikke er godt. Jeg lærer stadig sproget.
