The Queen who risked her life for Romania and pleaded with Britain for help - 'I would have died with our last man - have I not English blood in my veins?’ In 140 years of British-Romanian diplomatic relations, English-born Queen Marie of Romania remains the stand-out personality.
A war hero, an international celebrity and a cultural icon, in episode 2 of Who Is Romania Dr Tessa Dunlop explores the WWI role and legacy of Queen Victoria’s most beautiful, ambitious granddaughter.

She is so loved by the people of Romania that most of the best hospitals are named after her. And she is known as best queen Romania ever had well beyond her husband's fame.

Tessa, THANK YOU. Thank you for the way you portray my country, for never tiring to show everything that is beautiful, good and sometimes downright funny about us. Your Romanian is impecable and if I had the power I would give you a Romanian passport tomorrow. You are more Romanian than many of us. Thank you. I am very grateful.❤🇬🇧🇹🇩❤

Wonderful, dear Lady. As she portrayed herself at the Paris Peace Conference, while negotiating with Clemenceau for Romania, Queen Marie was a real Lioness, expecting nothings less than the Lion's share. The greatest Romanian figure of the 20th century and the greatest woman in Romanian history.

I'm roumanian and i've been live in UK from a while. The british love more the polish people then roumanians. But England gave only to Roumania a Queen... The Queen Maria saw the real life and power as a country in our peasantry living free...this is what i've learned in the communism time. If i have land where i can be buried in my country , that means i'm Roumanian. Daca am pamant unde sa fiu ingropat in tara mea inseamna ca sunt român. Take this lady... The queen knew this ...

She loved the country indeed. One of the reason was probably that she was a queen, even of a small country like Romania, than a duchess like her sisters. Few remember her sister, but many know about queen Mary.

I love the way you present your material. So upbeat and lively. I just did a video on Queen Marie and my style is different but I did so enjoy doing the research and telling about this amazing woman in history. We need more videos about more women and the accomplishments from past to present. Thanks for a great video!

The most powerful and beautiful Romanian woman, ever. Considerate thoughts of gratitude from a tiny young European nation. Good bless Her Majesty Queen Maria and may God uphold the Romanian Crown.

Well she was english of a german descent. Peles Castle was not constructed with Carol's money: it was the people's taxes. Overall Regina Maria was overpriced: she healed wounded. Rubish !

Her son, Carol II, was an odd, jealous man who treated her own family members badly. He was responsible for efforts to get his Romanian subjects to forget his mother and her great accomplishments. She was much loved by the people, and yet Carol II tried to keep her obscure, and sadly mistreated her so much, the Dowager Queen had to spend much of her later years traveling outside of the county, staying with her daughters in Yugoslavia and Austria and elsewhere for months at a time.
