I LOVE THIS! Each one of them is jiving - especially our gorgeous Dancing Deacy. Freddie, Brian and Roger looking like rock stars, and there’s Deacy in his little shorts and t-shirt looking like he’s jamming with the boys in the back shed. The music they made, just 4 of them (well actually there were 5, they had Spike Edney with them doing piano when Freddie wasn’t on it. Spike is still touring with Queen & AL, my husband and I saw them last year before Covid ruined everything) But it’s incredible when you realise there were no computer enhancements, no backing orchestra, no bells and whistles, except the lighting which was state of the art for the time and they were very proud of it. I never get tired of watching it. I especially love the Roger Cam video of this song. It is entirely taken from the cameras focused on Roger, and you can see what he means when he says that this song was the hardest physically for him to play. He’s got stamina, I have to say that for him. Great reaction again, this whole concert was amazing so anything you choose to do from it won’t disappoint, from One Vision/Tie Your Mother Down, to Freddie’s Impromptu which shows his vocal range in all its glory and will give you the biggest goosebumps ever, to their Rock and Roll Medley and the encores, you will be totally mesmerised.

Roger Taylor quote: "For 20-odd years, I had the best seat in the house, watching the best front man in the world." This song, written by Queen guitarist Brian May, is about the hard, fast, good and bad times of extensive touring, which the band did during their first few years. As the band have been quick to note, their success did not come overnight - success in America particularly was laid by many years of touring there in the 1970s, and battling against the common "east coast" style rock of the Eagles and Steely Dan which was very much the sound of American Rock radio around that time. "Now I'm Here" ☚(◕.◕)☛ is a song many in the band were fond of - including Brian May. Freddie Mercury said in a 1976 interview with : "It was nice. That was a Brian May thing. We released it after "Killer Queen." And it's a total contrast, just a total contrast. It was just to show people we can still do rock 'n' roll - we haven't forgotten our rock 'n' roll roots. It's nice to do on stage. I enjoyed doing that on stage." It holds the record as the Queen song which lasted in their live set the longest, from release in 1974 right through to their final stadium shows in 1986. DEAKY SHORTS 🩳 MY, MY, MY 👀🍬. Our Freddie was almost 40 years old at that time.

With a powerful voice and charismatic presence, stands out as the greatest frontman in Rock and Roll history. Once he stepped on the stage, the audience knew that they were a part of something special. Having over a four-octave vocal range coupled with a flamboyant personality, Mercury kept his concerts alive every second.

Brian wrote this after his bout with Hepatitis in 1974 which caused them to drop out of their first American tour. Believe it or not, it wasn't their tour-- they were the warm up band for Mott the Hoople, thus in the second verse "Down in the city just Hoople and me." I was very lucky to see them then, on 4/20/74 in Memphis before Brian got sick. I was also lucky to see them live again twice, on Halloween in New Orleans 1978 and again in Memphis 1980, both of which times they performed this song. Of course, they were the headliners those times, never a warm up again! And, btw, in the first verse "Down in the dungeon just Peaches and me" is presumed to refer to Brian's long confinement in the hospital (dungeon) with a nurse who took especially good care of him (Peaches). It is so much fun watching you and others reacting to Queen-- always makes me smile. Thank you!

DUBZER0 - YESSSS Absolutely love this performance!! Queen boys are firing on all pistons!! Freddie is rockin’ out!! 🤘🤘 “Down in the city with Hoople & me”. That line in the song is referring to when Queen toured the U.S. with Matt the Hoople!! My favorite part of this performance is at the end when Freddie stands in front of the crowd and slowly raises the half mic stand above his head! 🎤🎤You gotta do FAT BOTTOMED GIRLS LIVE IN MILTON KEYNES 1982!! Freddie does some pole dancing & you can’t help but completely stare & drool. 🤤 Oh to be that pole!! 🥰🥰

@@debramoore7513 OMG! Put it this way, if on my deathbed I have full dementia I'll be blabbing about seeing Freddie/Queen live. I also truly inadvertently met Freddie that night in '74 on a hotel balcony, face to face, just the 2 of us although I believe the other 3 members were in the suite we were outside of. I'll never forget that, either. I hope I'm not in a nursing home or something when my time comes. They'll think I'm, well, totally demented and will probably shoot me up with something to shut me up. 🤣

@@3ScotsInk Hahahahaha!! You should put your experience on paper or record it for future generations 😂😂 OMG! That way when you’re babbling about Freddie the caregivers won’t say “there he goes again”.🤣 How did you find yourself face to face with Freddie??
@3ScotsInk
@3ScotsInk 3 года назад
I was 17, working at Memphis’s most popular record store, and writing mostly record reviews, but aiming at something more as a writer. I had connections, including one who always knew where bands were staying and I had already met others, including David Bowie, by basically going to the hotels after shows and roaming around until I found them. And I almost always did. I was at the hotel that night actually looking for the headliners, Mott the Hoople. I knew Queen and was already a fan but they’d not had a hit in the U.S. so I wasn’t even really thinking about them. Several times I passed a suite where a guy was asking me if I wanted to join him for a drink but he was in the shadows- it was near midnight. I couldn’t see him really and just figured he was some lonely businessman, and I was laser focused on finding Mott so I kept waving him off. Finally I came around one more time and he walked out on the balcony and I realized it was Freddie Mercury. I spontaneously blurted “You’re not Mott the Hoople!” He cocked his eyebrow and said “No darling, I’m not.” Kind of huffed but immediately smiled and we chatted for a few minutes. He was extremely kind, funny, very intense eye contact but not at all intimidating. Just the opposite, like we’d known each other forever. I do believe his initial intent was to have some drinks then... whatever. But when we were face to face I think he realized how young I was and he was a perfect gentleman. Genuinely. I remember most of what we said but mostly I remember he was shirtless and I’d never seen a guy with a hairier chest. He was wearing something sort of like lounge pants and was barefoot and he smelled fantastic- some kind of manly soap mixed with a touch of nice cologne or aftershave. I was still only 5’6” and had on a pair of Adidas basketball shoes that probably added an inch to my height and we were literally eye to eye. I was struck by how much smaller he was than he appeared onstage. To this day when I watch certain videos he looks so tall, but I know for sure that his stage presence made him truly bigger than life. Finally, I’ve often wondered if there is or was anyone else on Earth who said “You’re not Mott the Hoople” to Freddie. LOL. He was a good sport, a good man, a beautiful man, and of course became a legend. I’m actually glad I had that one chance to meet him, and that it was before they became rock gods. He was just so... normal, human. In the best ways. I didn’t even ask for an autograph. It would have felt weird and rude if that makes sense. He did, btw, after a moment of pretending to be pissed at the beginning, extend his hand to shake mine, a gentle touch, and said, “I’m Freddie. And you?” I said my name and he said, “Lovely to meet you Kerry.” When my big sister was dying of breast cancer 20 years ago she was kidding me about all the celebs she was going to get to meet before me like Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin etc etc and I said “Not Freddie Mercury though. Haha!” Two days before she died I was holding her hand and she promised me when my time comes she’ll be there waiting for me. I said, hey have Freddie with you if you can. She chuckled and asked me why and I said, “I want to look into the Legend’s eyes one more time and say “You’re not Mott the Hoople!” She could barely speak above a whisper because the cancer had spread into her lungs but her eyes popped wide open and she said, loudly, “Oh my God, he’ll kill you!” I shrugged and said, “Well, Lynda, uh...” Realizing we’d all 3 be dead, we burst out laughing. It was the last time I heard her laugh.
