The Queen Of Pentacles is a hybrid Analog & Sample based Drum voice for the Eurorack modular world. It ties 3 Analog drum sounds based off of the Roland 909 Analog Circuits, and 4 Sample based engines with interchangeable banks that you can load your own samples into! It also has an Onboard effect processor with 2 banks consisting of 16 effects in total!

I watched all of your vids man. In like 90% of them I was completely lost, I have no idea what your talking about and why you have so many plugs on your thing (well I actually kinda know now thanks to you), but I vibe with you man, your vids are super chill. I don't know if it's just me , but having only 32 slots for samples it's a good thing. You have to commit somehow. Sometimes gear offers unlimited choices and i end up doing nothing.

Absolutely! The first thing I did with the Elektron rytm mkii was put every damn drum sample I've ever had in there because I thought it'd be cool. Man, it's overwhelming for some reason and I can't explain why 😄

32 is more than enough. Volca Drum is 8 parts with 2 layers. 16 drum sounds but you can't use them in b separate spaces like this. I could see this working well with elektron model cycles as a great source to sample from.

I almost never comment on video's, but i came across this channel when i bought a peak, and i loved your video's about the peak. I'm not really into producing with MPC hardware or other drumpad hardware/sampler things. But I do really enjoy you video's when you talk for example about the mpc 3000, just becouse how passionate you are about it and about music. Thanks for the content and the chill vibes

After my experience with the blck_NOIR, I don't think most design choices here are weird at all. I loved that I didn't have to use an external mixer module and that it had a built-in compressor and velocity control for each channel. (I'd be more than happy with just accent). I loved the ability to play sounds live with the buttons. This module is basically the same, but with different sounds. I sold the blck_NOIR because the hihats were not to my liking and its other drum sounds felt unusable to me, so the sample-based sounds are very welcome. However, I'm not sure I like the kick drum the Pentacles has, and I don't like the tiny controls for pitch.

@@saren6538 I'm guessing that it's lazy coding and/or cost cutting. You avoid the need to implement hot swapping the SD card while the module is powered. Using WAV file naming convention for defining the sample banks is also inconvenient for the user and indicates a coding deficiency. A TXT file that lists the filenames you want in each bank would be a superior experience for the user, like Expert Sleepers does with the Disting's. @ 10:00 - It sounds like when you have an ear infection. I like it. 909 is really needed in my rig, but I already have BLCK_Noir and I'm not sure if this complement is worth burning up 30 hp. I already have the Rossum Assimil80r for samples and I can sequence beats from it. One thing that bugs me about QoP is the tuner being a screw on the back and the SD card bundled in the side. To wit: I don't make techno, but I think this thing would be fun to send samples from my Koma Field Kit as musique concrete sounds to be sourced. Guess I'd have to unscrew the unit and load up new stuff into the back every time I play a new piece. Damn, I wish they put the reader on the front so I could pop new cards in and out with memory on the fly. This would be great for studio recording where timing isn't of essence. Nice sounds and good control, but a few design flaws in terms of ergonomics. It is what it is.

One of the best tools to get for any file management is the bulk file rename for Windows, I’m sure there’s an Apple equivalent as well. Handiest damn thing especially if you have to keep thing numbered or using an 8:3 file naming convention.

I've just bought my first eurorack gears : Queens of Pentacles + Euclidean Circles 2 + WMD Pro output BUT maybe I didnt search well but can't find how to sync the tempo from my ableton to my rack, I mean I wish the Queen of Pentacles to be my main drums machine for my production on Ableton. I've bought also a keystep 37, I know the connection is in front of my noise but cant find the right way to do it ... Any helps would be appreciated ! Thanks a lot

@@TheCALMInstitute well if you'rte only planning on playing a single sample, but start adding those up together to build a "kit" and the price starts to quickly go up. also ive seen a lot of issues with the tip top one modules, one module i bought had pretty bad issues with over drain of current and others ive seen have issues with the encoder. personally i wouldn't really get that module, there are other sample player modules that are more versatile and reliable.

Unfortunately underwhelming imo. Seems like they missed the mark on several things, mainly having the SD card on the back :/ who wants to pull stuff out of the rack just to load new samples? Snare also sounds really dull... maybe its just me but needs more snap. And BD tune on the back... painful

Unscrew the unit to change SD card? Also a pet peeve of mine, is having both low pass and high pass on the same filter knob. Why not have a switch besides the knob? This seems like a unit designed by engineers, not musicians. Sounds fantastic though.

I run a 4x12" subwoofer. Over here it's all Berlin dark techno, whenever he turns up the sustain a bit. Total thunder rumble. But if I didn't have the subs on, or when he turns the sustain down, you won't be hearing it.

Idk. Modular shouldn't really be "about" anything, but if it does have core values, building your own custom instrument is definitely one of them. It doesn't matter if you're synthesising sounds or using analog oscillators - those are things that appeal to many people for good reason, but it's not a requirement. The point is to put together an instrument and workflow that works for you abs helps you create the sounds you want to create.
