Another jewel by John Deacon made into a masterpiece by Freddie, Brian and Roger! Of course you've heard it. It's a "quiet" staple that has been heard over and over. Freddie puts the "cherry on top" to give this the awesome song! They performed the video in Roger's garden the same day they did the video for We will rock you.
Freddie was a great storyteller and he loved to sing John's songs, and this is a poem not just lyrics. It was a freezing cold day in the backyard of Roger's freshly bought house and the almost barchested Freddie warmed himself up with a half bottle of cognac, he was really drunk 🤣, but seemed to be sober.
HAVE YOU HEARD? Mary Austin (Freddie’s lifelong best friend to whom he left his estate; she’s been living in his house since he passed away)… is SELLING 1,500 of Freddie’s personal items! She’s decided to “put her affairs in order”, so there’s going to be a huge online auction on Freddie’s birthday (September 5) through Sotheby’s. BEFORE then, some of Freddie’s things will be on display at Sotheby’s in Los Angeles and a couple other places… I WISH I could go see them!😳😭 …One of the items that will be sold is the pair of star-shaped shades that Fred’s wearing in this video, that’s what made me think of it. (Sotheby’s will be publishing an auction catalog of everything, so I’m keeping fingers crossed that the catalog isn’t too expensive!)
I LOVE THIS SONG .. My favorite Deaky composition! I might be in the minority here but I think Freddie’s vocals are some of his best work in the studio!! AND, Brian’s guitar solo at the outro leaves me speechless! 🫠 I don’t know what it is, the guitar tone, the sound, but I tell ya .. warm fuzzies of hope!! 🦋🦋 See ya at the Emerald Bar 🍺🍺
@@LMTino I read a comment by Mike Grande (Associates Degree in Cinema Studies) on Quora, who wrote .. “It depended on the song, sometimes Freddie would sing along with Brian or Roger, but for the most part, given his range, Freddie sang what musicians call ‘block-harmonies’, and sang solo, very rarely did he use John, seldom Roger or Brian unless it was absolutely necessary .. Freddie was extraordinarily talented, his voice carried 4 octaves and arguably had the best in the rock-music genre.”
@@debramoore7513 Mmmmh. Just think of those emotional filled vocals - creating alone in a room or with your peers present. Are you bracing for the FM Sotheby auction (& tour exhibition in NYC, LA & HK this summer)? Knew the day would come but did not think this year ...
Told ya you would get there fast with us 😅Queenies. They are playing in Rogers back yard . He bought that house, but couldn’t afford it , and they wouldn’t give him the keys. It’s a very funny story. Freddie tried outdoing him by driving up in his First Rolls Royce and he couldn’t afford it either. They didn’t have any money yet😂
“I’m not gonna get that close cuz I’m ugly”. Hahahaha!! NO, YOU’RE NOT .. You’ve been wonderful 🦋🦋 Spread Your Wings makes ya feel nostalgic, it’s magic and I can’t explain it! Like sipping hot chocolate!! AHHHH
There are so, so many stories about the filming of this video and “We Will Rock You” both done on this same cold blustery day in the garden of Roger’s soon to be new house. Roger had purchased but not finalized everything so he could only use the garden and could not enter the house. Brian usually does not chance his Red Special in uncertain environments or potentially hazardous filming situations (this was both). Freddie was extremely fashion conscious and did not dress for the weather. His hands were freezing so he borrowed his roadie’s gloves. If you look carefully at the gloves you can see the duct tape and “Ratty” written on them, which was Peter Hince’s nickname. Also, Freddie tried to stay warm by drinking during the filming and got a bit plastered. He had a hard time lip syncing with the play back since he was so tipsy. Rumor has it he even tossed his cookies in the bushes. There is some behind the scenes video showing the filming of these two videos and you can see some of this yourself. I hope this very gently broke the news to you that these videos are done to the studio versions rather than live versions for the vast majority of the official music videos.
Yep they're outside, they were in Roger's backyard and the word has it that it was very cold too! Rumor has it that Freddie was feeling no pain lol. This song is really neat and sweet! Oh congratulations on the big 400 I'm super excited for you and I can say " I knew you when " 👏👏
Look at the four of them! Young, talented beyond measure and BEAUTIFUL. Not to mention they are simply OOZING 'cool'. The epitomy of the boy every boy wants to be like and every girl just wants to be with.
Congrats to you for getting to 400! Your channel is growing fast. Early Queen was more clear and vocal chords were not damaged. They were shooting in Rogers backyard. Have a great day! You really need to listen to the BBC version of this. I believe the year was 1977, but the ending is very different.
I knew you’d like this song! Queen wrote such positive lyrics. And Freddie sang them so beautifully. ❤ Thanks! Try Miracle. They were recording in Roger’s backyard. Freddie was so cold he drank too much brandy and threw up after they shot the videos. 😂 by the way you are adorable. Like Freddie said: you are what you tell the world you are. 😊
One of my favourite Deacy songs. Filmed alongside 'We Will Rock You ' at Roger Taylor's new home. The day was extremely cold, much alcohol was imbibed and rumour has it that Freddie 'decorated' the shrubbery.
This is one of my favorite John Deacon ballads. I love the inspiring lyric and the melody is perfect for Freddie to add his emotional vocals to the track. It has me rooting for Sammy every time. FYI: You are a far cry from ugly, as a matter of fact you are the perfect mix of handsome and cute, embrace it and go forward with all of the confidence that may be hiding within your soul. "You can be anything you want to be, just turn yourself into anything you ever thought that you could be." ~~Innuendo/Queen This video was filmed outside in the snow in Roger's backyard. Brian would not bring his Red Special to this party especially considering that the music is not recorded while doing the video, they lipsync to the studio version.
Notice John on the piano in the beginning, his bass across his lap. Without missing a beat he's playing bass. Brian did the same thing in Save me Montreal 81. This and we will rock you were filmed in Roger Taylor's back yard. Such a vibe.
this was brians copy of the red special at the time, he needed a spare incase he broke a string during a live show, if you watch dragon attack at the bowl in 82 he does indeed break a string and changes to this guitar while his tech puts in a new string on the red special, but what makes that song epic is that once brian walks off to change guitars john and freddie just carry on as if nothing was wrong and it was part of the show until brian comes back in again, you should check it out 👑✊🇬🇧
This Red Special copy was smashed by Brian during some show in early 80-ies cause it was out of tune, and then broken guitar was stolen, some years ago it was found and repaired! Now Brian owns it again! Freddie had some drink and was puking in the bushes after shooting these clips to We Will Rock You and Spread Your Wings! Great song from John! There is also The Making of these clips on RU-vid! Freddie took these gloves from his roadie Ratty, cause it was too cold! Also Brian used copies of his guitar in One Vision and Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy videos!
Deaky wrote fantastic songs … every one … but this is my favorite Feels like a little deja vu - ish 🤔 Old fashioned and makes me feel a little bit emotional. The guys were freezing in Roger’s back yard. Freddie was taking a little nip off some bottle now and then bc he was so cold and he got a little tipsy and threw up in Roger’s bushes. Have no idea why they did this in Roger’s back yard when it was freezing out but what a fabulous result ✌🏼 I need to dig out my Emerald Bar tshirt 😂 Great reaction ♥️
I found your channel after looking for All Dead, All Dead and was touched by your genuine reaction. The next song on the album News Of The World is Spread Your Wings and I was pleased to see you'd listened to this too. This one was my favourite on that album when I was growing up. I took it as an instruction not to let anything hold me back and just enjoy life my way!
This was filmed in Roger's garden..(new home) the same time they recorded "We will Rock You".. Brian used an alternative guitar b/c he was worried about the "red special" in the cold weather... Freddie borrowed gloves from a roadie.. and apparently got so drunk, he ended up puking in Roger's hedges... lol... All credit to John Deacon for writing this beautiful song...
Another one of Johns songs. Did you notice he started on the piano and the to he great bass playing. Brian didn't want to use his Red Special on the video because it was so cold. Definitely outside, poor Johns nose was running.
Hey Sweetie... Just found your channel and instantly impressed!! What a great video reaction, will have to check out the rest of your playlist, 84 vids, you HAVE been a busy boy... you are so precious!! You said early Queen sounds better than later Queen?? Huh?? Honey, Queen is Queen!! All is PERFECTION!! And don't ask what genre they fall into either, 'cause they are their OWN genre! Haven't had a chance to check out the whole list, so pardon me if I request something already played, but have you listened to some deep cuts like "Dog with a Bone" or "Water" or "You Know You Belong To Me"... all off the MIRACLE box set that just came out... along with Freddie's "Face It Alone", or my fav "In the Lap of the Gods", (Roger's falsetto's are fire), NOT the revisited version, that's a totally different song... Please keep playing Queen, and I'll be here... blessings.
Sir Brian has a reserve "pretend" or "spare" Red Special at the ready in case a string breaks during a live concert. He can rapidly switch guitars until his roadie is able to replace the broken string, and then Brian can continue playing on his priceless Special. Swapping guitars so quickly avoids interfering with their performances. (I'm guessing Brian would also have used a spare during some video shoots which might be too dangerous for the real Red Special. Whether it was too cold outside or riding on a train!?)
No One But You{ Only the Good Die Young} was written by the remaining members of Queen after Freddie died. Roger left the group after this and never played with Queen again.
It was John who left, not Roger. Brian and Roger continue on as Queen + Adam Lambert. John retired to a quiet life with his wife and kids (and now, grandkids) -- he no longer performs, makes public appearances or gives interviews, but remains involved in the business/financial decisions as one of the Directors of Queen Productions Ltd (listed "Active" status in QPL company official filings)
