+Henry Taysom Actually, in Devon it is considered good practice to slide the rope through your hand. Helps to keep a nice tidy and straight rope while ringing. Very few Devon Call Change ringers just let the rope go.

She's also keeping her arms straight as she pulls her backstrokes

you will actually find some of the best ringers in the country doing that, so with what you mean by "experts" I don't know.

Henry Taysom more disconcerting is she has the tail end going around her wrist. Surely a very risky practice should the stay break.
