Finding this video and reading all of the comments has been absolutely fantastic. I love that people are playing this game! As a way of thanking you all, I have went back and updated the rules (to version 1.3) aiming for additional consistency and clarity.
@@Lisa_Papez I have uploaded the new rules to the Queens Of Fate entry on BoardGameGeek, which is where I posted it originally. It may take a few days for the file to go through the peer review process.
I downloaded your game a few years ago now. Unfortunately I've long forgotten how to play it, that's why I'm here! I remember how good it was though and even for someone like me who has no interest in Tarot, I bought a deck just so I could play it. I am now off to promote it to other solo game channels.
@@Lisa_Papez Just to make things easier, this is the link I believe the creator is referring to: boardgamegeek.com/filepage/68234/game-rules-v13-queens-fate
Great video. Loved finding out more about the game and how it is played; I like that you added the Artefact rules for further depth. You might also enjoy the Fool's Journey game (I just posted a video demo on my channel). I'll definitely be trying Queens of Fate next ! Much appreciated, Ricky.
OMG totally yelling at myself watching this back because I kept that full court in the Swords and kept forgetting that all those cards counted as +1 which meant that A: my artifact was a power and cost of *5* (10 divided in half is 5) and my other cards stored there at that time were also +1 .... I gotta remember all them special abilities!!! :D
I played this again after a year....third card into the game I drew the Devil, then the Star, then Temperance, then the Magician, then the Chariot and finally Justice. I swear I'd shuffled but it was six majors one after the other! Needless to say, that game was toast. But it was fun and plan to play again. Thank you for this video--very helpful!
You're so welcome. I hope it's helpful! I did forget to address HARVESTS and artifacts should be forged from an ace and minor arcana of same suit but otherwise this covers mostly everything :D
I found the rules for this game on the internet a couple years ago. It’s hard to get your head around it just reading off the rule sheet. This video makes it SO much more clear. Thanks so much!
this was fun to watch. I have the rules printed and am happy that I found this to just see how it shakes out. also I really like that deck! Thanks so much!
Cool stuff! I play a lot of traditional Tarot games, but still haven't tried any Solitaire versions. I've looked at a couple this week, will give it a go.
Really appreciate you taking the time and effort to make this video. Honestly, I'm pretty old and find it harder these days to learn rules. I used to play this years ago and just came across the rules. After a read through not much had "gone in" so thanks so much. We need people like you. Greetings from a dull and rainy England.
You're so welcome! Be sure and review comments below too as a couple people pointed out a few things I missed! I found the rules overwhelming to read too!
You're welcome! I missed going over/doing a couple things (like harvests! urgh!) and artifacts must be forged using an ace and minor arcana of a matching suit - so I was wrong on that point. LOL So it's not a perfect demo but it's something! :D
If the Challenge and the Fate cards are in harmony, but have the same value, you must discard both cards. You do not get to "secure" cards of the same value that are in harmony.
This is really helpful! Thanks very much! Going through the rules as you play this. It looks like you are playing this a bit different from what the rules say regarding "Resolving Fate" on page four. You don't get to pick which card you keep, you only have the option of keeping the top(Fate) card or discarding it. The Challenge card automatically moves into the Fate pile. This seems like maybe a house rule that will make the game far easier than with Rules As Written. There's nothing wrong with that necessarily but you didn't mention it and I'm just learning by reading along as you play which is the only reason I noticed.
This was amazing! I can’t wait to start playing. Sorry if I missed this, but what happens if a major arcana card ends up in the fate box? Thank you, Lisa!
Do you mean when you turn over a major arcana? You have to 'beat' it by having minor arcana that add up to a number equal to or greater than the number on the major arcana - then it goes over into the 'signs' discard area. If you don't have enough minors, you have to 'endure' by sacrificing a court card to Portents. If you don't have a court card, you have to draw a number of cards from your draw pile equal to the number on the major arcana and discard to Portents. I hope that answers your question!
@@Lisa_Papez Omg, I've been playing this game and love it SO much!! Thanks again for this demo. It would've taken me so much longer to figure out the rules without it! Sorry I was unclear--I meant when you begin the game, and say you draw a majors card. The first card is supposed to go in the fate box automatically, but if it's a majors card, do I just pull out of my draw pile and then place the majors card in the signs discard area, leaving the fate box empty for the next draw?
Thank you so much for sharing this!!! Learning by doing is definitely easier, your explanation is super clear, and I love this way of interacting with the cards. :)
Apologies if i'm mistaken, but at 13:07 couldn't you also add the 2 of swords to your swords pile instead of discarding due to the effect of the sword court cards?
You don't get to keep Challenge cards. If the Challenge card wins it always goes to the Fate position. You only get to "secure" a Fate card if it wins or if it is in "harmony".
Your artifact in the example had a full court and should have been treated as a 10 and not a 9. You must sacrifice the value that was reduced with the same number of cards from the Destiny pile if you use any extra secured minor cards with a lower value than the artifact. In this case you would discard 5 cards from the Destiny pile. The original rules called for you to do this with each extra card used, but the updated rules only require you to do this once.
Im writing while in play as to not forget..i understood the source cards in order to forge an artifact is has to be of the same suit. You also could have "harvested" i think 3 cards from the bottom of the destiny pile because you have all three courts in the one suit. Theres also a few other ways to harvest...Ive been playing this a bit lately and some of the rules are not totally clear...i didnt realize you could keep the artifacts after play. Thanks. Ive been playing it using TdM.
Ooooh good catch. I read the rules wrong and thought it said the ace DIDNT have to match the suit - it makes MUCH more sense that it DOES have to match the suit. And I TOTALLY forgot alllll about harvesting which would have really helped me. I agree that the rules can be a bit tricky and make the game seem much more complex than it is. I actually don't usually bother even playing with artifacts most of the time... but harvests - those are good... use those! LOL
I tried to download the instructions but it says I have to be a member of the blog site...I tried just signing up and was going to cancel after I got the download but it wants me to create a website and all this extra stuff that I don't really care to do, plus I don't really want to pay anything 😢 Is there another link to get the instructions?
I have a question: In the directions and your video, it says knights and pages, but then also says king queen prince princess. So do mean princes are the same as pages and knights in other decks? Or are there actually pages, knights and kings in the deck you're using because I'm working with the Hermetic Deck and that makes things even more complicated, but to simplify it: say I have the 'normal' king, queen, prince, princess. How does that correlate to the your deck and the printed directions?
What happens if you draw a trump card in the beginning of the game and you do not have a court card or enough minor arcana to pay off the conflict - does that mean the game is over?
If you don't have enough minor arcana to spend or a court card to sacrifice, you have to pull a number of cards equal to the roman numeral of the major from your Destiny pile into your Portents pile, if I remember correctly!
@@Lisa_Papez thank you - I was not sure if you pulled a trump and did not have the cards if you 1. Ex: strength VIII if you took (8) cards off the top and put them in the discard pile or 2. Pulled cards until you either had a court card or cards that had numbers to add up to 8 - to put on the discard pile. Also - what if you run out of cards - and you have aces off to the side - can you use an ace to get back 4 cards from the bottom of the discard pile in order to stay in the game?
that's a nice solitaire game using tarot cards. If only the game developer can interpret the outcome. Like, the remaining cards in the destiny pile. What could they be represented or something. Or maybe what is the meaning of the cards in the domain and source piles.
Oh I'm sure there's a way you could add a divination twist to this game! :D Perhaps the top and bottom in the signs and top and bottom in the portents could be applied meaning and 'read' at the end of the game!
Thank you so much for sharing this Lisa! I cannot wait to play this!! I’m going to make the little paper pieces like you did, I think that’s a fantastic way to keep track of all the piles 💚. One question for you, as I was reading through the ru,es you linked, I read about harvests. Is there a reason you did not play with these in effect?
Sorry you're having trouble! :) If you check the pinned comment you'll find a link to an updated set of instructions for the game that you can print out or refer to!! :D I believe (if I remember right) that when the numbers are the same, you can choose which card 'wins'. :)
Hi thanks for doing this I’m working on it and love it but I haceaquestion I got the same number for opposing suits what to do? Which to choose? And the first time I tried it ihadthecrystal visions which has ae tea unknowcard that I forgot but wanted to include some how because I have several decks with extra cards what would you suggest. Also I got the name picker app but I can’t fix it to give me multiple names for the knockout rounds
The Fool still needs to be defeated. It must be defeated with a value equal or greater. Therefore, the Fool has to be defeated with a 2 or higher. It is not a free defeat.
