Yep- laid down the biggest sound and groove out of all of them- also the best for QOTSA imho. Jon, Dave and Gene also badda$$es, but Joey made their sound F'ing awesome.

Not to forget that Troy and Josh are very well in sync here. Vocals as well as guitar, I mean especially the guitar stuff. Even the smallest slide or variation they play together.
Look at Josh Homme, god damn that man just exudes cool from every inch of his body. I'm not gay, but whenever I watch a live QOTSA vid I have my doubts.

Joey Castillo could always break something on his drums. I’ve seen him with Queens three times and always had to part replaced on his kit. Even his drum sticks would break like a pencil.
It always astounds me that this isn't an universally held opinion. It's obvious to me. They've done lots of great material over the years, but the Self Titled album is leagues better than anything they've done in years. Problem is that crowd that would never listen to a band like queens in a million years if it weren't for seeing the video for Little Sister and honestly had no idea who they were until they were 4 albums into their career and Josh had already made 4 genre defining albums with Kyuss, toured with the Screaming Trees, made 5 Desert Sessions albums, at least 1 Eagles of Death Metal album, played a major role on Mark Lanegan's masterful Bubblegum album, toured and recorded an album with Masters of Reality and then 3 albums with Queens (2 of which are arguably stone cold classics). They showed up late to the party and resent anything that they weren't hip enough to know about when it happened. Some of them weren't even born when Josh was creating a genre (desert rock) and Kyuss was playing stadiums with Metallica. My favorite band ever is Pink Floyd, I was only alive for the Final Cut, A Momentary Lapse of Reason, the Division Bell, and the Endless River, but there's no way I would be so self important as to insist A Momentary Lapse of Reason is a better album than Dark Side of the Moon just because I was around to experience it when it was released. Damn Fools, I tell you.
Justin Vavala SFTD did come really close to topping the debut, and maybe some people never knew it existed, seeing as they re-released it in 2011. And yes I like Pink Floyd too, as i prefer Animals over Wish You Were Here.
+Onmysheet All albums are good, they just have a different feel. To me the debut is the classic robot rock album, R is a drug trip, SFTD is a car ride in the desert, Lullabies is a fairy tale, Era Vulgaris is a pretty weird comic book and ...Like Clockwork is a look on life. I can't decide which is my favorite though, I change my mind pretty much everyday
I was never really a QOTSA fan, not that I didn't like them but when I heard this song on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservation's show I was hooked and became a fan.

I remember i saw Acdc at the milton keynes bowl 2001 in the uk, qotsa were on the same bill, crowd were kind of dismissive/hostile towards them, i thought they've always been that bit different and great from day one! :-)
+Daveyboy joey got tired of touring so much, as homme kind of pulled him into drumming for b eagles of death metal, he ended up being on tour with eodm for around 2 years, right after he was done touring with qotsa too

Dydux666 It's like trading in a hammer for a Swiss Army Knife, yeah you get more versatility, but sometimes you need to hammer that fucking nail. That's actually a little degrading of a metaphor to Joey's talents, because he is actually a very complex musician himself, but it kinda works.
