Queensland's Olympic Prep Labelled A 'Joke' 

Olympics is a good way to build infrastructure with an excuse / money back from people visiting.

He will be gone in October.He leads a pathetic Government.

When someone of the caliber of Steven Miles is running the state it really highlights the disaster the state is in at the moment.

The Los Angeles Coliseum is the worlds greatest Olympic stadium.

Look at the hype of the Sydney Olympics, now most of the venues remain in use

Athens was a total disaster. Its not the standard olympics. Care is needed. Cost saving measures are needed. But come on. London, Sydney, Tokyo, Beijing all had successful games and successfully converted their infrastructure into ongoing usage.

Mate it's not as if they have to weigh up hosting the olympics and helping homeless people. If it gets cancelled it doesn't just go to that, it's not how it works. If they wanted to spend money on it they could tomorrow. Queensland has a Budget Surplus. They can afford to borrow 10s of Billions of Dollars.

Australia provides enough social services. This is an event that was suppose to put Brisbane in line with Sydney or Melbourne. This is a lack of vision issue.

What’s the purpose of hosting the damn games anyway. Flashy stadium or not, Brisbane is a dying city and that’s become pretty evident since the pandemic with whole CBD food courts as ghost towns. It’s no wonder Myer left and we have a rising youth crime problem. Keep going this way and we will end up like San Francisco or New York. High amounts of homelessness and crime and vacant store fronts in the ruins of what was once a thriving city. Our transport system is another joke and Brisbane already has the worst capital city public transport in the country. We will probably have a very car centric legacy from the games.

They have spent billions already on cross-river rail for the Gabba opening soon.... and they are now not even going to use the Gabba. Common sense suggests build it here, but this time with 65k seats.

Yet Queenslanders were complaining about renovating the Gabba. We’re going to need to renovate it sometime anyway.

@@Lifts_QWERTYGabba still won’t be to disability standards so it’s a waste of money as it needs to be demolished in so many years anyway the upgrade isn’t worth it. Build new.

This will be the most expensive option in the medium to long term. The Gabba will need to be replaced soon anyway and not using the olympics as an opportunity to build a new stadium is short-sighted political garbage.

Tbh, over 8 years if the government spends 8-10 billion dollar with support from federal government its not much. It is going to be 0.5-1% of Queensland's budget over 8 years. With that you get a tier 1 stadium and show that Brisbane is a world class city. I don't know what people are crying about. Gabba has to be replaced. It would be a huge loss to the economy if Brisbane can't provide a great hosting venue.

@@Spectre-tv7wiI’m not arguing…the government is doing a better job of that…but it’s typical that ex and present Olympians push for the games….that taxpayers foot the bill for….Sport should not the biggest priority in Australia…there are more important issues the government should focused on..don’t people get enough hands out from the taxpayers without spending more on an even that last 2 weeks…besides tourism injects plenty of money.
