Olympics and commonwealth games are hugely expensive and no return on investment. Greece took years to pay off the debt and could still be repaying for their Olympics. The taxpayers are the losers no gold medals.

I say put it to a vote, you'll find 90% of people are really not interested in hosting the Olympics in this state. All I can see is QLDers being taxed into oblivion in the years to come, to pay for the waste. We need to be more frugal and budget conscious and put funds where they are needed most, housing, health, roads, crime etc, etc. I certainly don't want my tax money spent of frivolous ventures, that don't serve the community at large. These politicians need reining in, they are poor decision makers and we need some true leaders to step forward and create change.

The Victorian ALP crushed the hopes, dreams, and training of thousands of Australian and international athletes over the cancellation of the Commonwealth Games. Now the Queensland ALP want to do the same thing on a grander scale. Why would anyone playing or spectating sport vote for the destruction that is the ALP What international organisation would ever take Australia seriously again when we nominate to hold a world sporting event. Australia's international reputation trashed.

It’s a complete was of money to pander to ex and present Olympians who expect taxpayers to foot the bill for 2 weeks….there are more important issues to deal with….it was only ever done to stroke the egos of the Palaszczuk government…and then she packs it in as premier……there a more opportunities for tourism over 12 months than 2 weeks….don’t people get enough handouts from the government without having to bleed the taxpayers for more money to cough up….Not every resident in Brisbane want it and those living here should be the priority who decide.

I'm no supporter of Labor but, I do not for the life of me see a problem in the govt reassessing this massive expenditure of taxpayers money. To me it appears quite responsible to do so.

The games are to be cancelled to bail out Victoria, it's why Palachik was sacked by the ALP and Unions. The problem is the ALP and Unions now realise they'll lose money if the games don't go ahead. Good times.

How can you put on a great game when venues are not up to standards. Brisbane should build venues better than anything the Olympic has built in the past. It will be a shame to be hosting major events like in the future and still have the smallest and scraping venues. Queensland need to show the world they were able to host the Olympics games, which is why they bid. Or else they will hold the record of the worst state and city to ever host the Olympic. Wake up, Queensland, you wanted it you have to deliver. Try to do better than Sydney, London, Paris, and Los Angeles .

I believe that Queensland is not worthy of an Olympic Games! South Australia would be a great Olympic Games host, with its strong sporting and festival culture - with the potential for many sports to be hosted in close proximity to the Adelaide CBD with reasonable capacities! A few sports could also be held in parts of regional SA like the Barossa and the Fleurieu Peninsula to provide showcasing opportunities for places that are currently less known globally but with great potential! Any Australian Olympic Games, however, should be a long term proposition, ensuring relevant infrastructure can be delivered across a longer timeframe! That will also ensure important ongoing matters like housing and cost of living are dealt with adequately!
