Well I have been to Queenstown from memory at least 7 times and I love the place, the scenery, the mountain ranges, Lake Wakatipo etc and for the vibe of it. Sure it’s all been on various holidays, and mostly ski trips but that’s maybe a part of why I have enjoyed going there. We were there back in August this year for 10 days and had such an awesome time. I will be back again for yet another ski trip in the future.
The back road from Arrowtown into Queenstown which most wouldn't see. The main road is much more interesting but still nice scenery. Looks very quiet and early winter before the ski season starts and crowded. Same at summertime ( Christmas/NY ) when you can't move. I live just down the road so go there all the time with the electric bike so get out of town and ride all the trails with the best scenery. It is a tourist trap but the best stuff is out of town. The best drive is too Glenorchy ( 45 minutes ) which is a continuation of where you drove into town then turned off.

Queenstown is on the South Island. Cromwell (around 50 minutes away) and Dunedin (around 3 hours ) are the nearest large population cities within reasonable reach.
Lived there for 10 years. Probably one of the most overrated town in New Zealand. Queenstown is mess with stupid council, too much development around and always road blocks, worst traffic management. Too expensive for what it is. Lots of good places to see and experience around New Zealand.
Did it take you 10 years to decide you didn’t like it? Just visiting now for first time: beautiful lake and mountains, but appears to be massive development going on. It’s going to be even more crowded.
