probably the funniest scene in the movie, reminds me of family guy.

Those are eames lounge chairs. They are iconic and almost more of a status symbol.

Und man merkt immer gleich, ob er einen leiden kann oder nicht. Wenn nicht nimmt er einen komplett auseinander, so dass man sich am Ende fast schämt diese Frage gestellt zu haben. Er ist ein Genie.

Es war in der Tat ein Erlebnis. Viele Talks auf der OMR waren nicht so meins, weil alles Influencer, die irgendwas promoten wollten. Oft irgendeinen Quatsch wie eine Creme :O) Aber dieser Talk war Zucker.

These are actually some of the most accomplished film marketing directors in the room - people who shoot for Porsche, AUDI, Mercedes-Benz and so on. So they are not amateurs, it's kind of an expert conference.

​@@DerDudelino Ich rede von Marketing Leuten und Konzernen, nicht von Filmemachern die diesen ihr Talent zur Verfügung stellen. In diesem Werbeclip findet im Grunde auch nichts anderes statt als eine Aneignung der Kunst für kommerzielle Zwecke. So hat es auch schon Coca Cola 1971 mit seiner "Hilltop" Werbung gemacht und sich die Flower Power Bewegung zu eigen gemacht (was wunderschön im Finale der Serie Mad Men dekonstruiert wurde). Werbung hat durchaus seine Daseinsberechtigung, trotzdem finde ich es sehr scheinheilig wenn Konzerne und Marketingabteilungen so tun, als wären sie ein Sprachrohr der Künstler, oder besser noch, die Speerspitze des gesellschaftlichen Wandels, was momentan auch sehr im Trend liegt. Anders herum wird ein Schuh draus, in der Kunst und gesellschaftlichem Wandel sehen sie eine tolle glänzende Verpackung, um ihr nächstes Produkt an den Mann zu bringen.

The host is actually a pretty large Hollywood kinda guy, that always does the movie interviews for German television. So he is the right guy to do it.

They can negotiate a time exclusive window for Cinema - yes. Tom Cruise has done that for Top Gun: Maverick.

They can only do that if they own the movie. By almost all margins, the movie is funded by studios who have investors whom all want it to go streaming because it turns guranteed profit that way whilst just cinema doesn't and actively stopping it from going streaming even if it did make money in the cinema is intentionally stopping it from making profit

@@guileniam You make way more money in the cinema - which is unlimited, while streaming are fixed contracts. That's why Top Gun Maverick was cinema exclusive for a long time.

@@DerDudelino of course you make more money in theatricals, but streaming is less risky profit and like I said its very good additional profit on top of theatrical. Why would any investor or someone whos out up money say no to such a lucrative business opportunity?

@@guileniam It's more about timing. If you bring it to streaming a year later, you are fine. If you bring it to streaming early, you'll loose a lot in box office which is the number the success of a movie still gets mostly measured by.

@@MathiasWillArt Kann ich nachvollziehen, seine Filme sind extrem brutal. Also das ist tatsächlich eine Komponente, die mir mitunter auch zu viel war - aber sie sind halt sehr gut geschrieben, sehr liebevoll geschauspielert und inszeniert.

Well, but I think you have to always bear in mind that Tarantino has a huge Hollywood machine behind him - like there are hundreds of people working in marketing making his movies a success. If he would just put them in the cinema, they wouldn't be successful. Sony has invested a huge amount of cash to push Leonardo Di Caprio and Brad Pitt into every late night show on the globe to push Once Upon a Time in Hollywood ;O)

I agree. There is also a huge amount of incredible content on Netflix for example that is just not getting the limelight. I've seen a lot of tv shows especially from Spain that are really good and just need more promotion. It's less of a quality, more a discoverability problem which might be able to solve with AI and algorithms.

Saying streaming can replace the cinema is like saying a live album can replace going to a gig - you might have experienced the same piece of art, but the presence of the audience makes it ten times better

@@brodierake8454 Yes, I agree. Going to the cinema is a friends experience - it's something you do with your buddies while streaming is something you typically do at home. How often do you invite people to see a Netflix movie? Not a lot. Maybe with the new The Lord of the Rings show you can invite friends or Game of Thrones to chat about it afterwards. But I gotta be honest, that I don't do that very regularly, can't even tell you why. Do you guys invite friends over to watch House of the Dragon?

I think you’re all missing the point. Watching a film at the cinema is an experience in itself because the photography is designed to utilise the scale of the big screen. The recent Dune film is a good example. You can watch it on your regular size tv but it doesn’t have the same impact. Sound design is also geared towards use in theatres, though it is easier to recreate with a half decent home sound system. The cinema should always be part of culture.

The opportunities you talk about is just for a tiny, specific group of people that mostly make ideological movies. In today’s climate, Reservoir Dogs wouldn’t even be considered by investors(not a single female role in it. Feminists would have had a field day considering how they lost their empty minds with Margot Robbie/Sharon Tate having «too little dialogue» in OUATIH🤦). Yes, Transamerica and Moonlight and other «ideological» movies probably wouldn’t have been made and nominated for Oscars in the 90s, but that is more thanks to Academy Awards pushing for «inclusivity» and «representation of minorities» ahead of artistic voice and qualities. In other words, we are living through most opressive, calculated and predictable period in cinema/movies since the 80s where ideologies trumps original voices. Give me back 70s and 90s experimental and groundbreaking cinema ahead of today’s recycling of old classics in new uniforms(Ghostbusters, Ocean’s 11, Snowwhite, etc), ideology force feeding and having Marvel/DC movies having a premier every other day✌️

Glaube Philipps Idee war eine entspannte Lounge-Atmosphäre zu schaffen - er sitzt zum Beispiel sehr entspannt in seinem auf der Bühne. Aber die meisten Gäste wollten wahrscheinlich ihre Beine nicht ausstrecken, während sie reden :O)

@@DerDudelino Quentin wollte vermeiden, dass man sein Bäuchlein sieht. Zu Anfang schaut er kurz runter und zupft sein Hemd zurecht. Und es stimmt. Diese Chairs lassen einen nicht gut aussehen. Findet man deshalb auch in keiner TV-Talkshow.

Mr. Hollywood, insofern wenig überraschend. Er steht ja auch bei den Oscars immer für ProSieben am Roten Teppich und macht die ganzen Star-Interviews

Ja, den Kommentar fand ich auch sehr spannend und teile ich zu einem gewissen Grad. Du guckst viele Netflix-Filme und hast den Plot schon am nächsten morgen wieder vergessen, weil völlig irrelevant. Die Filme machen halt nichts mit dir. Netflix hat komischerweise keinen Anspruch an die Studios - die geben dir einfach so 100 Millionen, einen guten Film erwarten sie dafür aber nicht, was schon strange ist.

The Adam Project mit Ryan Reynolds hatte einen guten Plot und zwei, drei interessante Ideen, aber ich hatte am nächsten Tag den Film bereits wieder vergessen. Vielleicht weil diese Filme alle so gleich aussehen? Ich finde jeder Netflix-Film sieht exakt gleich aus, rein von der Optik. Weil die ja nicht mal in echten Häusern drehen, sondern die Villa einfach nur eine Soundstage mit Greenscreen ist :O)

@Felix Fox Ich finde es gibt auch heute noch Filme, die so nur im Kino funktionieren: Der Herr der Ringe etwa, mit seinen Massenschlachten oder gerade erst Top Gun: Maverick - dieses in den Sitz pressen, die Epik des Luftkampfs, die kann auch der teure OLED-TV zu Hause zu nicht leisten. Das Kino wird uns also hoffentlich immer erhalten bleiben.

@Felix Fox Sollten wir einfach wieder öfter ins Kino gehen. Ist ja auch ein schönes Happening mit Freunden.

Hat mich auch überrascht. War der letzte Talk auf der OMR, glaube viele mussten zum Flieger oder ICE und hatten Angst kein Taxi zu kriegen, die auf der Messe sehr rar waren. Aber der Talk war stark - er brauchte ein bisschen anzukommen, das hast du gemerkt - anfangs hat er etwas rumgedruckst, aber nach drei, vier Minuten ist er richtig aufgegangen auf der Bühne und hat voller Passion über seine Kunst gesprochen. Also ich fand's toll, schon ein Erlebnis.

Nooo… I don’t think that’s the way he meant it. Unless behind the scenes there’s some drama between them I couldn’t imagine Quentin genuinely slagging Robert. They’re brothers from another mother. Though, I have wondered if they’re not as close anymore.. because they don’t seem to do much together publicly anymore and Quentin did his podcast with Roger Avery and called Roger his Best Friend..

I think he is a naturally fast talker - his mind works much faster than his mouth can get the words out, so sometimes it's slightly off. But he always talks like that :O)
