Thanks for the update I have a 3 1/2 month old female GSp and have been watching your RU-vid videos and they have been a great help. She already knows the sit stay and bed (place) commands commands and does them reliably. She comes when called both inside and outside as well has been clicker trained all with great results. Just a tip I learned might help others with the Dremel. At 8 weeks old I used my electric tooth brush (with the brush Head off) and touched Kacie’s nails with the vibrating shaft.. she got used to it quickly and now I have no trouble at all trimming nails with the dremel. Great job with the videos....Hank

This is exactly what I needed to see. I have a 4 month old vizsla and have been doing the training based off of your videos. I am not sure when to introduce the collar training. She follows commands 100%of the time when I have the clicker and treats but will not when I don’t have treats. Going to have to start variable training tomorrow!

I love your videos so much and have taught my 11 week old GSP Cash so many of the basics already! I noticed Quest was pretty vocal during training sessions, but I heard in another video that she ended up being one of your quietest dogs! My dog is also super vocal and feels the need to bark at us during training sessions and CANNOT seem to calm down during nail trims (although we are following all of your guidance!). Would you suggest anything specific for those that bark a lot during these times? I know patience is probably one piece of advice :) Thanks!!

Thanks for the update. My dog is 5 months old and doing ok. We were wondering what things will you work on after this 16 week training items . Which videos to watch next in order. My father in law is helping with training and has a patreon account already for access to puppy training vids.

Great progress! I've watched all the videos and have learned a lot I'll be sending my 3 year old Brittany to bird dog training end of this week, but just for month at first. With that said, since I'm condensing the training and taking a break from the entirety of the course, is there something I should build on prior to my dog leaving for training. I guess what I'm asking, what fundamentals that I can teach easily should I focus on that may help the process when he goes off to training?

vittoamp we are glad you are enjoying the videos! If you are sending your pup off for training I would assume they will take care of most of the training for you! Socialization is going to be key to your pups success at the trainer!

Can you clarify when you turn off vibrate on the collar when she retrieves? It looked like you turned it off when she jumped on the couch, and based on other videos I'd have thought that would reinforce that behavior.

using your training vids as a resource and things are going great. my 16 week old GSP is doing awesome. But...still peeing in house. We take her out constantly and she will pee 5 times outside and still come in and pee in house. I have to limit water access as she will drink excessively and pee everywhere including kennel...have you ever run into anything similar??

David Langford you said you are limiting water. Please explain! Also what size crate is she in?

@@StandingStoneKennels The breeder told me not to leave water available to her because puppies are obsessed with water intake. I found this to be true with her because she will drink until swollen up like a tick. i put water in her kibble and periodically water her but dont give her access to water at all times. her crate is just big enough for her to comfortably turn around but not too big. She is on a consistent feeding and potty schedule.

David Langford it really sounds like you are doing everything by the book. Unfortunately some puppies just struggle more with potty training more than others. Have you considered bell training to give her a better outlet to let you know when she needs to potty?

@@StandingStoneKennels thanks for the response. Yeah, figured patience was most likely the solution here. Really mostly puzzled by the excessive drinking behavior, but hopefully will pass. I would love to bell train her. Do you know of any good resources i can look at to begin training?

So what happens when she wants to play tug with a dead rooster in the field? I’ve always been told to never play tug with bird dogs, what’s your reason for playing tug?

Rachel Medaugh thanks for the question! That is a pretty common thought process among bird dog people. To answer your question, she will not play tug over a dead rooster. If you watch in this session we encourage the game and end the game. This will give us control over the potential of tug in the future. Also we only play tug in the beginning stages of puppy development to assist in developing a strong jaw, condition a strong hold on retrieving objects, and finally to encourage a young pup to naturally want to bring objects back to us as tug is a fun game to play!

So at what stage/age exactly do you end the tug aspect of a game of retrieve? Thanks again for the quick response?

It’s really going to depend on each individual dog. As we continue to see the dog excited and pumped up about every single retrieve we can start to phase out the tug game and work more on a polished, finished, natural, to hand retrieve that we then condition the dogs to swing into a heel position to present. If we ever start seeing a lack of excitement about the game we are either doing too many retrieves or we can go back to a few tugs thrown in here and there for fun!
