I had a Rift, Rift S, PSVR1, and Quest. Always hated my Quest. Spent a lot of money to get it comfortable and still hardly touched it. Tried a Quest 2, again didn't like it. I hated the Rift S software IPD adjustment. I ended up going with the Pico 4 as I just use it for PCVR. The real IPD adjustment, and rave wireless set up reviews sold me. I have had it a couple months now and play it more than any of my previous headsets! But once you go wireless on PCVR, I don't care what headset you use you won't want to go back to a wired setup.
100% with you on wireless pcvr! It's an absolute game changer. Pico 4 handles it well with virtual desktop. If that's how you play most of your games then there's no real point of going to quest 3
Isn't the noticeable latency with wireless PCVR? What connection speed would you recommend for it? Edit: Would you recommend Pico 4 or Quest 3? I'd buy the Quest, but the price tag on the Quest is crazy for me.
No, I've always found wiresless PCVR to be pretty good. I have 1000mb down 500 up, and my pc is plugged in via ethernet, and my router is in the next room about 10m away. If I close the door sometimes it gets a bit choppy. For the headset, I would wait till the end of the month, there will most likely be a launch of the Quest 3s which will be cheaper than the Quest 3 but still pack a lot of power.
@@thevrcoach Thank you for your response. I've heard that the Quest 3s will have Fresnel lenses, which is a big turn down for me if true. Edit: I'm happy I went with the Pico 4, the Quest 3s is pretty bad in comparison when you only use it for PCVR, and I don't play standalone games anyways.
good points to which I all agree. Since I play both, PC VR and standalone games such as Eleven, I am very happy with the Pico 4 that I have since release. Mixed Reality I am not too much interested in tbh and I bought another VR headset for my son now so we can play some games together. The choice was Pico 4 again, just because of the price and the fact, that when it comes to resolution and comfort, they are basically on the same level for (with the black friday bundle prices) roughly half the price. Was a very good deal in my eyes, especially since it came with 3 games (which still haven't been delivered to the headset after 1 full week btw). Nevertheless I am a price/performance fan, which is why I would also always prefer Android phones over iPhones for example. I am pretty sure I will also buy the next pico headset when in comes out because I am pretty sure it will out-performance the quest 3 by a lot for probably around 80% of the price.
Fully agree with your points too, I'm sure you and your son will have a blast with co-op pico. Hopefully, you get it soon! The Pico is still a fantastic device, and I got a lot of value from it over the past year.
Amazing video thank you for your information! One quick question I have about the pass through. When you show recorded footage of the pass through it looks unbelievably clear. Like really really good. Is this what I would actually see in the headset however? Only reason why I ask this is I was massively disappointed when I purchased the PSVR2 about 6 months ago. All the footage recorded that I watched online about the psvr2 and even footage I briefly recorded when I played the walking dead LOOKED SO MUCH BETTER on the saved file than what I was actually seeing in the headset. I immediately returned my PSVR2 as the grainy filter was to off putting. Now I know the Q3 won’t have the same Mura effect but does it actually look as crystal clear as the videos here?? Thanks for the comment James. You're right, when wearing the headset its a lot grainer than when watching this video on your phone or computer. I saw from your other comment that you're a pico 4 owner. The color pass through is honestly pretty similar, but the big difference is the depth sensor, which stops the excessive warping. But i have been blown away by all the apps I've tried so far in MR, there's just so many experiences optimized for it compared to P4
I almost only play sports games like First Person Tennis, Racket Club, Eleven Table Tennis and Gravity Leauge. These are not so graphically demanding, but it would be interesting to know whether they run more smoothly than on the Pico 4 due to the 120 heart?
Would like to hear your opinion that since Quest 3S is arriving, is the Pico 4 still a good deal for a newbie? The price in Malaysia is around 400sgd equivalent for the pico 4. Will be using it for PCVR as well.
Hey mate, That's a tough one. Pico 4 is better for PCVR gaming because of the pancake lenses, bigger sweet spot and IMO is more comfortable out of the box. You don't need to worry about how powerful the processor is because your PC will be doing all the heavy lifting Quest 3S is better for standalone gaming. Has better mixed reality, The Snapdragon XR 2 Gen 2 processor, triple AAA titles (Batman, Assassins Creed, AW2 etc) and the Quest store is WAY better than the Pico Store. I play a lot of stand alone fitness/sports/combat games so my recommendation would be Quest 3S. But if a large majority of your time will be PCVR then Pico is better. I just posted a review on the quest 3S compared to Quest 3 with quite a bit of gameplay footage.

PCVR is my first priority and I don't wish to spend a lot of money on standalone VR games for now. Perhaps after a year or two, there will be more option on better budget VR headsets. Anytime! The Pico 4 is a great first headset. I used it as my primary headset for a year before the Quest 3 and loved it for wireless PCVR gaming. I recommend adding a bunch of SteamVR games to your Wishlist, they go on sale all the time and you'll be able to pick up some of the older titles with massive discounts. I'm actually gonna be in KL this weekend for my dads 60th. Looking forward to some good food
I'm torn between buying a Quest 3 and a pico 4. I'm a pcvr gamer and I want to ask, is there a difference in resolution between the two devices that is worth the price difference. As just a pcvr player, which one do you think makes more sense to get?
It's a tough decision! There is a slight difference in resolution, but I can't tell when wearing the headsets. As for pcvr, the quest has the ability to utilize wifi 6e routers and the 6ghz band, it also has steamlink which is a new way to connect to pcvr wirelessly and pico doesn't have that yet. I've used my pico headset for wireless pcvr gaming with virtual desktop for a year and never had any issues, so I think its a great budget option. The main selling point for quest 3 over pico is getting access to the stand-alone oculus store and mixed reality games. If that's not a big deal for you, then the pico will serve you well.
Sorry to disappoint, I mostly use VR for fitness and sports games so as soon as I got access to wireless PCVR I never went back. Will take your feedback into future comparison videos! Thanks for the comment
Nice video! Concise and well done. Including mixed reality stuff even, you can tell some effort went into this! On topic: I wouldn't have thought it, as a Pico 4 user, but having tried out the quest 3 with a wifi 6e router, it's a night and day difference for pcvr gaming. No stutters, beat saber with 120hz even streamed from pc is fine, and skyrimvr has never looked better!

@@thevrcoach I use VD normally but have tried steam link yesterday. It was not able to boot beat saber for me for some reason, but I have seen it worked for others, so not sure what's up with that. It worked flawlessly for thrill of the fight (VD never gave me the right plays pace there), but I didn't do more tests. The lack of reprojection will limit its applicability in games like skyrim, where I normally play with 60/120hz and reprojection. Definitely an exciting step though, one could assume it is another path towards a new valve HMD...
@@wash36 But you need to make sure the Occulus meta quest app is running as well. And that interferes while I play Battlefield 2042, causing my mic to go on and off. I got get up, I went back to Pico 4 and sold my Quest 3. The app was poorly programmed.

Strange, i have pico4 and purchased quest 3 but will return it. Yes quest3 was better for standalone, but for pcvr with vd it was strangely slightly worse. Also the quest 3 was much less comfortable without buying the expensive elite strap. Massive price difference for no real improvement when using pcvr
The real big problem with pico, is that its not as known as quest therefore having less games, pico is a lot newer than quest thats why it has less games
I had quest 2 for only a weekend and really enjoy the vr experience but it had dead pixel, reached out meta and no support for my country. Ended up returning it to amazon. Looking up to pico 4 because it has support and on sale goes low has the quest 2 on my region.
Ah that sucks, glad you could return it and get a refund from Amazon. Pico is a solid runner up to the Q3, I don't think you'll be upset with it, especially if you plan on using PCVR too.
I had the Pico4 and switched to the Quest 3. But only because I play competitive sports games and I need the 120 hz and always fast updates). The Quest 3 is a bit better everywhere except for the price and the comfort (even with Elitestrap, because it's lighter and the weight is nicely distributed). There are 3 groups I recommend the Pico 4 to In PCVR they are almost on par (Quest 3 slightly better), but since the comfort and price is significantly better, I would go for the Pico 4 (+Virtual Desktop) for pure PCVR. Pure sports gamers (unless you play competitively) will also have more fun with the Pico 4, due to the better comfort and because the graphics are second rate And casual gamers who don't need a huge game library and have to watch their money when buying. Ultimately, the Quest 3 is the better, more sophisticated headset and if money is no object, I would always choose it over the Pico 4. If it does, I would recommend the Pico 4 to the groups mentioned above.
Yep, that's correct, they're both stand-alone and have their own stores to purchase and run vr apps. If you don't plan on using pc at all I would recommend a Quest. The quest library is way bigger and better :)
i looks like pico 4 graffic lags alot of all the videos i have seen,and meta quest 3 looks flawless,and the mixed reality allso looks alot better on quest 3,is pico only good if you use it on pc?i have tryed to find out what vr to get the last few days but i still dont know,i am affraid that quest 3 are to heavy,and pico are better because it has battery in the back,and dont need to buy any ekstra to get it comfortable,and if i buy quest 3 with 512 gb i dont have any ekstra money this month to buy ekstra for it,and do you need an expensive cable to connect quest 3 to pc?i think i read the cable for pico is cheap,and what about between the lenses and around the lenses,can you see a black line like glasses?i cant find any videos how it looks inside the vr,plz help first time i gonna try it.
Hi, firstly welcome to VR. Both headsets are great options, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed either way. I'll try to address all your questions. 1) I never experienced any lag from the Pico. Everything was pretty smooth. But yes, the quest 3's mixed reality experience is better because of the depth sensor and most importantly, the number of games and apps that support mixed reality in the quest library. 2) pico still has some great titles. But yes, you are missing some big names like beatsaber, Thrill of the fight and now assassins Creed. That's why people often use it paired with pcvr gaming. 3) both aren't that comfortable, I used my pico every day this year and always have red marks over my face. The quest is just as bad, and both feel heavy and hot in your face, especially when working out. But you get use to it over time. For the quest you'll likely want to upgrade the headstrap at some point but there are third party suppliers that make them cheaper. 4) If you plan on connecting it to your pc then I assume you plan on playing steamVR games, in that case you may not need the 512gb version. Instead you could just install a few games that you play standalone and then rotate out others as you complete them. Both can be connected to your pc either with a USB c cable or wireless. I always use wireless through virtual desktop. 5) Yes, you can see around the headset, with my face structure I get quite a lot of light coming through the bottom of my quest 3 where I didn't with the Pico. But as soon as I start playing an immersion game I forget all about it.
ty for your answer,i allso like to play whitout pc,but when i see videos on youtube it just looks like the pico 4 is lagging and quest 3 are smooth in the graffic,and looks like pico only looks good when connected to pc,i cant find a single video on youtube where it looks like pico are smooth like quest 3 unless it is connected to pc,and i dont mean light,i mean when you have the headset on you can see the black inside the vr around the lenses and between the lenses,my english are not good so i maybe not write probberly what i mean:)
Graphics are good on the Pico standalone, similar to quest. I have a review of les mills bodycombat on this channel, and all of the footage is from Pico standalone. When the Pico first launched, some games weren't optimized well, but these have mostly been fixed. Yes, you can see the black plastic around your lenses. But you soon forget it's even there. Similar to wearing glasses.
ty for help,but i ended up with the quest 3 512gb today,of course i tryed roller coaster and i am sick now haha,i keept pushing after i got sick,next time i stop immediately if it happend so i get used to it:)i know roller coaster is the worst game to start with,but omg its amazing,but allso weird at the same time,i had no ide how vr was before today.
Hahaha roller coaster is an ambitious first pick! There is a process called "earning you VR legs" most people start with games where there isn't a lot of movement (like beatsaber) then you can move to games with movement but use snap turning or use vignette to reduce you FOV. This can help with motion sickness in the beginning. After a few weeks, you should be good to go, but take it slow in the beginning with lots of breaks! Have a blast!! Hi mate I’m thinking of moving over to quest 3 from pico 4 but the only thing holding me back is the visuals side of things. Is there a noticeable improvement in the display of the Q3 over P4? I’m not expecting a massive leap in visuals as that would be silly but even if it’s only minor would you say that there is some improvement over the visual when comparing the P4 to Q3?

I found personally for me I use it mainly for streaming online media and I found the quest was actually substantially better for image quality and lens clarity than the pico. I also found the screen door effect to be less on the PICO (I know a lot of people may disagree on the SDE) so all in all I was actually well happy to switch 👍👍

Quest 3 has eye tracking but pico 4 doesn't and they still don't sell their pro version/enterprise worldwide and their pico 4 even expensive than quest 2 a lot... Their international marketing is just fucked up...
