Makes you say "what the hell is with all these guys and that LS-xyz crap?!"
@peteloomis8456
@peteloomis8456 Год назад
@@cjm5002 True but to build this engine compared to a LS is going to cost way more than any LS build because of how much R&D has already been put into the LS builds plus they are already from the factory a cross bolted 4 bolt main block either with the cast iron block or the all alloy blocks so with any of the Chrysler B or RB blocks your looking at custom machining to have that block cross bolted to a 4 bolt main which isn't cheap . Then you have to figure in how much time and money were spent on that custom built supercharger or any other custom made parts inside that they seemed pretty quiet about which I don't blame them because maybe this is something that they might end up building as a kit form to sell eventually but will probably if they were smart have patents made for the parts or kit so you don't have people stealing your designs and ideas . I am a old school Mopar guy but like anything old from the big 3 but I've been waiting for someone to build something like this blend of old tech and new just to see how well they stand up compared to the LS and coyote engines just because I always figured that these older engines with better internals and heads with new technology inside and new technology with the superchargers could stay with these new engines . The thing with any Chrysler engine or the cars are they aren't cheap to build compared to the Chevrolet or Ford's most times and that especially now is why most go the other direction because of the money factor and how easy parts are to find and get compared to the Chrysler stuff .
@joeljenkins2876
@joeljenkins2876 Год назад
@@peteloomis8456 you know, I like the way you explained why so many go towards GM, it’s NOT just a simple matter of GM being SUPERIOR (not to say they’re junk or anything like that) but economically CHEAPER to build BECAUSE OF all the legwork done beforehand. I’m a diehard mopar guy myself, but I can appreciate cost.
@cjm5002
@cjm5002 Год назад
@@peteloomis8456 Just preaching to the choir brother, I've been saying that for decades. If I recall correctly part of Chryslers deal with ford back in the 70s was to destroy all the foundry molds for all big blocks so that never again could mopar put out these beastly engines.
@peteloomis8456
@peteloomis8456 Год назад
@@joeljenkins2876 Yep all you have to do is look way back just after the flat head Ford was being phased out and the small block Chevrolet came out and if you looked in those early hot rod magazines everything that was made to be better or make more power and speed was tested on the small block Chevrolet first then upgraded as testing and time went on . I have some old hot rod magazines from the early to mid 60s I still like to page through but back in the day you could go out and buy a brand new 2x4 tunnel ram intake with linkage and carbs if I remember for 99.00 lol . Granted most people were only making maybe 3.00 a hour back then and 99.00 seems cheap to us today but that still was a lot of money back then to the average person who had a wife kid and a house to pay for but like you and I mentioned the leg work that GM does when designing performance stuff for engines back then still applies now in this day and age along with Ford as well and Mopar to an extent but not nearly as much being they aren't in Nascar anymore or used that much on the dirt ovals or road racing much but are more in some classes of drag racing for example the Drag pack supercharged Hemi challengers that are out that aren't doing all that bad being NHRA is making them run more weight or the cars have to be heavier than the GM and Ford for some reason from what Drag pack Dennis was saying who broke multiple records almost 2 seasons ago now with his drag pack Challenger . He's saying that the engine in his drag pack is 1,500 ish HP I would assume to the rear wheels on a small 10 inch slick that NHRA mandates for that class so it takes a lot of tuning and chassis tuning to get those cars to hook hard without spinning or loosing traction once under way down the strip further to run those mid to low 7s at 190+ mph in the now 1000 ft NHRA sanctioned tracks which used to be the 1/4 mile or 1,320 but NHRA shortened the tracks because the nitro class and pro stock cars keep going quicker and faster every couple years it seems so they shortened the tracks for safety reasons to try and slow them down which doesn't seem to working lol .

So interesting how you can see the rpm , for both torque and horsepower, remained essentially the same, but adding boost and a nudge on the timing just kept increasing power at the same engine speeds. That torque at so low an RPM is amazing fun for a street car and should actually increase the engine life by lowering the wear factor associated with having to go to extreme rpms to make the power you want. This video really is so enlightening and educational. I would bet that , if they haven't already, they will be beefing up the chassis of that Duster with torque boxes and other specific gussets to handle that power. One other bit of magic is to use a high speed low windage design in the oil pan, assuming they don't already have that as well. Just a beautiful job guys.

@@NicksGarage TY. Yeah never getting rid of it. To many memories. We painted it Yellow with a Black RT stipe on it. Steel need to do the dash. It just has a skin on it for now. Need to replace all the gauges. None of them work. The interior is done other than the dash. Work in progress. Takes time.

Check the bulkheads and bearings for walk, I hear it has billet caps and girdle but the factory block don't last long over 750 HP, nice work to all involved, keep em coming Nick

The girdle spreads the load over all the main-webs (*bulkheads) and the caps for specifically that reason.
@davelowets
@davelowets Год назад
@@Motor-City-Mike A girdle doesn't help cap walk all that much. 4-Bolt mains do, like the engine in this video has. Being a drag racer that uses Oldsmobile power, I'm REAL familiar with, and have used girdles in the past, and they just basically help to contain the explosion when it still happens, UNLESS it's a very nice piece that goes over all 5 main caps, and then bolts to the entire pan rail also. Thise thin halo girdles that just bolt to the main caps really doesn't do a whole heck of alot.

What a tribute to a man you clearly respected very much, could see it tearing you up..... the world needs to have more of this, individuals can be very special and when they leave us we should never forget them. Nicks comment was spot on, look what he left you. May Barry rest in peace.

You could see how pumped everybody was as the numbers kept edging higher and higher: nothing like a plan that comes together. It is so nice to see you finally getting help from high HP engine designers. I have watch so many of your videos where you spend tens of thousands of dollars trying to reproduce factory HP numbers with such things as 452 heads from the 70's. It is a breath of fresh air seeing mopars finally producing power. Love your videos but common man. 350 HP is from the wayback time machine.

I was impressed just how smooth the engine ran and how nice it looked. Now the trick is to build the car so it can handle that HP.

I have been wanting someone to build this exact set up with a 440. We all know the hemi is the big daddy, but all the 440s out there. Build before fuel injection. And never really supercharged, until now. This is what I expected was possible all along. I would have given almost anything to have had one of these in my 68 road runner!!!! Congratulation!!! And thanks for showing the Dodge Boys what's possible!! Who knows, someone may beat these numbers, but ya'll did it first!!! Awesome engineering and fabricating skills!! Be very proud, you deserve it!!
