My first QFG game was part 2, and I always loved them all. Sierra brought a lot of happiness to what was a dark and lonely childhood. All these years later it brings me comfort to watch videos of all the games I used to play. Reading all the comments makes me smile, and I wonder where the hell all of you were when I was growing up😂. Glad you guys are here now.

For me, I was busy trying to beat the monsters that only came out at night in Quest for Glory 1 VGA. Getting frightened as a kid when I wandered into the town cemetery at night with all the ghosts up and about. I completely froze and didn't dare to move my character. Watching the game slow to a slideshow speed during the bandit stronghold areas because my PC was only a 286 at the time. 😂

One of my favorite Sierra games growing up and my favorite QFG game. The John Rhys Davies narration is SOO great. I actually read he was quoted as saying it was the "cd rom from hell" because of the sheer amount of dialogue he had to record. But honestly that was my favorite part of the game haha. Great review!

11:30 my ONLY complaint about the narration is that nobody explained the "put the candle back" gag to jonathan rhys-davies

Fav game in the qfg series! I had so much fun with this one, gameplay is still very advanced, letting you go about things in different ways based on your class, like how the rogue climbs the town walk, wizard levitates. Combat is fairly unique, voice acting is top notch and hilarious, so classic ❤️

What really amazed me about Hero's Quest/QFG 4 was how it was a return to the signature zaniness of 1 and 2 (after 3 seemed to lose the plot a bit) but also got you so emotionally involved and caring about the characters you interacted with. The amount of world building that went into a relatively small area was also a welcome throwback to the first game. I was kind of surprised that everyone suddenly claimed to care so much about Igor as soon as he went missing. Was he really such an esteemed member of the community? Sure seemed to me like they were all just dogpiling onto an opportunity to go on a witch hunt for fun.
@Zazzaro703
@Zazzaro703 10 месяцев назад
3 sort of lost the plot because it wasn’t a planned entry from the start. The Cole’s were big table top players and thought the hero wasn’t strong enough for the Mordavia setting yet so they added the 3rd game.

This is my favorite in the series as well, I got it when it came out on 3.5" floppy disks and eagerly imported my hero from QG1, 2, and 3 as a Paladin. Then fired it up on my 486 DX33 PC. The game left such a lasting impression on me and I liked the character of Katrina and the name so much that I named my first born daughter Katrina. All the backstory with Piotyr and Erana, the bravery and sacrifice, were truly inspiring when I was younger. I love the gothic setting and bringing back Ad Avis from QG2 was so cool.

This series in one of my alltime favorites. I loved each one of these, but this fourth one might be my favorite. The amount of puns and references in this are hilarious. I mean, even "Dr. Cranium", who makes you do weird puzzles. Sierra, we know about Dr. Brain, you don't have to shout. :D Also, can I just say that the overarching story about Erana that encompasses all games from one to five is kinda awesome. I really hope you do a video like this from all of the games.

@@Cannotbetamed1 Yeah, I watched that. I watched quite a few of your vids since I just found your channel. And I have to admit I fell in love with your content. You definitely earned your sub with this, Loom and Dig videos especially. Trial by Fire could be a little off-putting for new players nowadays becaus of the parser interface and no VGA remake, but the rest of the series are games that I'd recommend even today. I'm really looking forward to watching more of your vids. Thank you for making them!

The mid to late 90s was one of the darkest times for video games. That first gen 3D where everything looked like ugly triangles, and even though 2D sprites still looked way better, every developer was obsessed with rushing into 3D regardless of whether it looked worse. Out of that entire trend, nothing hurt more than seeing what they did to Quest for Glory 5 :(

3 is my favorite as well. I felt like it offered the most interesting setting, conflicts, and NPCs in the series. I also like how it didn't start you off feeling alone as the hero just wandering around and talking to characters that largely stayed in one spot and instead had Rakeesh initially talk to you as he guides you through Tarna, grants you an audience with King Rajah, and tours you through Fricana. There were just lots of little touches like this that made the world feel more dynamic and alive to me than the other QFG games.

This was the dark and gothic game of the series. I played it as a kid and loved it. It was so glitchy then. Now that I am a single parent with sole custody of a 12 year old, I get to raise him to love these games. I love them so much. They take me back to when my dad would sit and play these games with me. The QFG series (VGA) will always hold a place in my heart ❤️amazing job on the review. Love your videos friend. QFG4 is definitely the best of the QFG series. For sure. It feels like you’re playing a game set in the beauty and the beast time period. It’s gorgeous.

Hey there. Really fun to see all of us thoroughly appreciating this series (of which 4 is my fav) all these years later. I actually just did a playthrough a couple weeks ago; holds up superbly! I would say though, in regards to the gypsy talk -- I don't really find it awkward? Stereotypes and prejudice exist, and to completely act like they don't exist in any of the media we have? The townspeople were shown to be [mostly] wrong...aside from the 'werewolf' part (lol), and the point was emphasized even up into the ending of the game. Have you ever played the QG2 VGA remake? I'm playing that for the first time, and would be curious to hear your thoughts!

Oooh wow! I totally missed Quest for Glory IV! It looks awesome!!. This thing you mention in 6:36 about being able to play as a class (pala) that isn't even selectable from the get-go if you've played the previous game and that you have ways to get by obstacles that are specific to that class is just mindblowingly awesome! Your class matters, the time of day matter, this is insane! (And that combat music bit you played had me playing air-guitar) I'm absolutely going to play this one this year! a Fantastic review! Quest for Glory has been one of my favorite series for decades too. I know exactly what I love about it, but I have never heard it expressed so eloquently or thoroughly. There are moments in the review, like that one instance of mismatched voice acting, that made me go, "Yeah! I remember that!" This feels like a labor of love, of a game that I loved. Thank you for making it. If Quest for Glory 4 had more reviews like this, and less bugs on release, who knows what might have been. I was a Magic User for all five games. The many different occasions magic helped me out in the adventure game parts conditioned me to favor magic characters in games for some 30 years now. Wow. It occasionally felt a little cheap. Need a light? Use a fire or light spell. Need to pick a flower on a cliff? Use the fetch spell. What stuck more clearly in my memory, though, is how Levitate could not move laterally. I had to make use of a rope and someone (?) pulling to get me across a chasm. Or was it a sail? The Coles really tried to create situations where magic had to be used with some thought and not just a hand wavy substitute for lockpicks. Great, great design.

I played this game when it came out, my favorite Quest game from sierra, but the bugs where almost game breaker. The game crashed so often that I was saving my game every 5 minutes. I had a bug that each time I was visiting the gypsie camp, I had to change the sound setting to ad-lib because the howling of the wolf was crashing the game. So before visiting the camp, I saved, exited the game, changed the sound driver, started the game, restored my save game, visited the camp in full ad-lib glory, saved again, exited the game, put back SoundBlaster and restored again.

I didn't play until the CD rom version was out, so I happily didn't experience most of these things.

QFG4 is absolutely fantastic and one of my faves. I always thought the fighter class was the most versatile, though. By the time QFG4 came around, my character was a Paladin Thief who could do magic :) The big sword is something no other class could get so I always started there.

I was not even tracking this series, and I see the whole package I-5 on sale for $6.49 or something like that.

I have no experience with the Quest For Glory series, and this video is making me want to get into it. I love a good point-and-click adventure, and I love a good RPG, so looks like a pretty solid deal. Thanks for your in depth review, as always. It's very much appreciated.

Quest for glory 4 was my favorite of the series. I never got to play 5 or 3 and never finished the VGA remakes of 1 or 2. Wish the series would get a remaster or remake

I think the uncomfortable parts of games, specially older games, is a good thing. There's somethings we should be uncomfortable with, but most companies want to paper over them or just cut them, pretending that they never happened.

I always interpreted this aspect of the game as a deliberate way to show how small minded the towns folk are. Especially because these "gypsies" end up becoming your friends and helping you. Like, the moral of the story is to show us why we *shouldn't* be prejudiced.

Reminds me of Hugo's House of Horrors? Or Maniac Mansion; sick music in that game.

I never played Quest for Glory series. But I played its sister titles Kings Quest and Space Quest. Would love to see these series revived.

Jim Cummings voices Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Pete, Darkwing Duck, and hundreds of other characters... and he's done dozens (if not hundreds) of _movie trailers._ One that sticks with me is "City of Angels." Look up his demo reels; they're worth the experience. Russi Taylor is often brought up as the longtime voice of Minnie Mouse, but (as heard in this character's voice) she used her Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webbigail voice(s) for more characters -- including the clam from _King's Quest VI._

Loved this game. I remember buying it new at the local computer show, held at our nearby community college. I originally got into QFG when it was still "Hero's Quest," and followed the whole series. Great memories and great times. Amusingly, I now work with a guy about 10 years older than me who was one of the beta testers for Ken/Roberta/Sierra on a lot of their earlier games (I think Gabriel Knight was one of the last ones he did). :)

I played the majority of the old school Sierra adventure games but somehow never tried QFG. Your video has me thinking that it's finally time to give it a try.

Really dig that there is a big fanbase for these adventure games. I met people who enjoy them immensly. Personally i like the whole setup, but never played them as a kid. Wish i could find the same magic feel...

OMG I'm running through the whole series on GOG right now. I've always wanted to do the Paladin since I was a kid and my dad bought this game but couldn't because you needed to transfer a save to play Paladin
