With word of local locked lake systems holding line burning aerial performers, I set a quest for capturing one of these giants. With hopes of getting that metre plus fish I targeted them just about every afternoon for a week.
For the first couple days I couldn't manage to land one with several missed hook ups, bust offs, and just out right beaten by them with their air show to good for me to keep hooks in. (I did manage to land a nice little jack on a hardbody).
After the third day I had a better feel for the location and fish I was targeting when I managed to land my first giant herring going a solid 60cm.
each day seemed to get better as I was gaining a better understanding of the fish, when they were feeding, what they were feeding on and how the fight was likely to play out.
I don't have any bait footage in this edit but I found they will eat white pillies and prawns no worries with bigger fish being the culprits of this. (bait pictured in end of clip.)
