The upgrade just isn't worth the leap in price for the average consumer. Going to have to wait for the Quest 3 and its hopefully stable price at 400. 🤞🏻💰🤞🏻
I believe Quest 3 will be very similar if not an improved version of the Quest Pro. The pro was basically for early adopters. Meta announced they will no longer be making new pro devices and will focus on the normal Quest models. They also just lowered the pro price to $999. Quest 3 will most likely be $599 when it comes out later this year.
Not at all. If it was better than the quest pro, it couldn't be less than it, but the quest pro is built for more educational uses, not gaming, specifically the quest 2 runs a bit better and the quest 3 will probably be better gaming wise if that's what you meant
@@LETMESOLOHIMXBOXEDITION So basically: - Quest 3 has a sharper display - Quest Pro has much better colours and blackness - Quest 3 has twice the graphics power - Quest 3 has better battery life - Quest 3 has much better passthrough - Quest 3 is half the price I'd say the Quest 3 is indeed better
I bought a refurbished Quest 1 straight from the Oculus website for $200 in 2020 lol. Incredible that it dropped so much in price so fast, considering it launched for like $400. I enjoy the headset, but I do not feel any pressing need to buy either a Quest 2 or Quest Pro. The Quest 1 suits my use case for this time, since it has no trouble linking to my PC with both Virtual Desktop and the built-in Air Link. Maybe in another year or two I would consider buying a new headset, maybe not. But as long as my Quest 1 keeps on going, I'm fine with it.
I really enjoyed my Quest 1, I had a friend use it overnight and he used a laptop charger with usb-C and it melted my quest 1 pretty bad. The OLED screen had such good vibrancy of colors, and great black levels... Even though pixel density wasn't as high, I still liked it for its own merits. Rest in peace my Quest 1.... you will be sorely missed. It really made a great PCVR headset. Until you care about Quest 2 exclusive standalone titles, there is not a big enough reason to upgrade until Quest 3.
A lot of my friends and even professional Beat Saber players are still using a Rift CV1 or Rift S, so that ought to tell you that newer isn't necessarily better. The Rift S microphone experience is something to behold though, hahah.
Quest 3 will be just as good but half the price. One year will give them a chance to get the price down. Plus Quest 3 will be more focused toward gaming.
The Quest Pro starts giving me headaches after using it for 10 min due to the excessive pressure on my forehead. The Quest 2 with the KIWI headstrap on the other hand is much more comfortable to me because the weight gets balanced with the strap over your head and the whole Quest 2 weight touching my whole face. So Quest Pro basically puts all the weight on your forehead and back head... I'm surprised that for some people it's more comfortable and for others like me is just painfully uncomfortable
You’re wearing it incorrectly which is easy to do, follow the adjust guide should help, QP is the most comfortable VR headset I’ve wore after I got it adjusted properly
@@demo4444 I am using it following the eye tracking guidance. Recently I tried flipping the back pad and it helped a lot, however the headset feels kinda loose
I recently had my first experience with VR - trying and playing game on the Quest 2. I loved it, i'll probably even get a VR headset, but I guess I'll wait & see what the Quest 3 is going to be about & compare it to the Pro, then I'll decide. But between the Q2 & the Pro .. definately the Pro is better and I would've payed extra to get it.
Kind of wish there was a pass-thru switch, so you could check your phone or other real-world elements easily. Or even emulate the phone’s display on the virtual desk.
I find myself never using my quest 2 because of how front heavy it is where it feels uncomfortable. I wish the quest pro wasn't so pricey because I would gladly switch to it if it meant I wouldn't want to stop using it after 20 minutes.
I plan on saving money and buying it when it’s on sale, like maybe for Black Friday, I do know that it’s on sale right now for 999 cause it’s 30 percent off but I refuse to buy it unless it’s at least 40 or 50 percent off
Listen I'll admit this is a cool upgrade and I am not about to rant on the way it works or the upgrades just because of the price. But after all the price at the end is what settles it for me at least , and I don't think I'm gonna spend $1500 on a vr headset any time soon.
Thanks. Was wondering. No way I can justify that price no matter how good it is but was curious. Love my Quest 2 but it doesn’t get used enough to justify that price for an upgrade.
its not a side grade, 50% more power, double ram and mix reality support is 100% considered an upgrade What you mean is its for different levels of consumers
@@qtcollect4608 Exactly, the same stupid Adreno 650 gpu, just a bit more ram and stuff. Go for a PSVR 2. It is MORE advanced and MUCH cheaper than that stupid Quest pro.
I have an Oculus Go and a Quest. I just tried a Quest pro at a friend’s house, playing Pistol Whip for 10 min. Fitting is def nice for me with a good front/back balance. FOV and display are rather disappointing since I could not really tell much difference from my Quest1. Futur content will hopefully show real capabilities, let’s wait and see.
That's because you played pistol whip. Even from quest 2 to pc version, the graphical difference is minimal. Try playing games with a higher graphical fidelity.
I have a hard time believing you didn't see the difference in FOV/Display quality between a Quest Pro and a Quest 1... Its a massive visual upgrade from the quest 2 alone and even beats headsets like the reverb G2. Pancake lenses are innately superior to Fresnal lenses by a long shot. Massively improved colours, clarity, (Especially edge to edge since there are no godrays or fresnal effects) and field of view. Field of view is relative though depending on your face/IPD/Glasses on any headset though. Quest pro is also at $1000 which is $500 less than it was at release already making it a much more enticing option; Granted most VR gamers looking for a headset at that range already have PC's double or triple the price of the headset alone. So it definitely hits the enthusiastic target now. Not cheap by any means, but definitely more enticing compared to the competition of the headsets at that level (And actually much cheaper too than comparative headsets like the Varjo Aero or other pro headsets) And that's alone without looking at the gaming experience you chose.. but even then the improvement from the Q1 to a quest pro is hard to miss on something like pistol whip. For flight sim, racing sims, VRChat, Elite.. and basically anything PCVR its incredible and leagues above even the G2 or Quest 2 PCVR in my experience. Pancake lenses are a VR life changer
exactly. the mic is literally worse, the difference is graphics isnt very high. for that price you might as well get a pc and a quest 2 or a pc and a rift.
@@KadenFinity I think anybody looking at the quest pro for PCVR already has a PC worth 2-4x more than the Quest pro alone is (btw the Quest pro is now $1000, which actually makes it way cheaper than most of its "pro" competitors) Mic doesn't seem worse at all, much better actually (Its not a $400 studio XLR condenser mic.. but it is an upgraded 3 channel mic vs 2 channel) The graphics difference though? Quest Pro is INSANELY better looking than the quest 2, not to say the quest 2 is bad.. But 75% better contrast was stated by Meta.. and man.. the colours are a HUGE step up. Edge to edge clarity is unbeatable as well due to pancake lenses. No godrays, higher pixel density due to separate displays for each eye. No screendoor effect I can notice (quest 2 screendoor was already really good and not noticable unless focusing) Out of any of my previous headset upgrades the Quest pro by far was the biggest jump experienced. Is it worth $1000? That depends on what you do; For business use? Doesn't get much cheaper than that; For Enthusiast VR use? Amazing; Get an extended battery though. (I will add the QP actually lasts longer than my Quest 2 does now.. my quest 2 battery's health has definitely diminished and now only runs for 1.9-2.1 hours vs 2.5 hours using the QP. WITHOUT additional extended batteries) For your casual VR gamer who might pick up a headset here and there though? Wait for the quest 3. I use VR on a near daily basis, I would consider myself an enthusiast. Whether its me playing flight sims or throwing in some time into VRChat with friends and laying down on my bed and pulling up a huge 200in theatre screen is definitely quite enjoyable for some movie watching. Something I barely did with the Q2 due to comfort when laying down and the face discomfort after long use.
They need to add a high resolution camera on these specifically for tracking smartphones, watches and the like. Optimized for enhancing the quality so you can actually read and interact with real screens. AI tech should help them solve this problem.
To be honest, I have Quest 2 and pro doesn't really make me like: "WOW, it's a huge difference!". I am still super happy about Quest 2 especially when we don't have super improved VR since the Quest 2 premiere.
thanks for the comparison, super helpful! would love to know more about the eye-tracking technology... does it work with visible light or IR? what's the camera speed/hertz (camera capture speed)? how do you get the eye-tracking data out of the goggles? thanks
I'm really impressed, how possibly suddenly AR became and that hardware on these goes already smaller and lighter. I also used my computer through my Quest 2 to turn on some games and it works nicely. AT SOME POINT its going to be an exciting future. But even though I bought myself Quest 2 for design and productivity, no way I would pay triple the price to be able to see the real world. If I use my headset, I'm just in it, period. If I don't need it, I take it off :D But imagining something light as sunglasses being the future of digital screens is veeeery cool :D
I see these improvements on HTC and Oculus, but not nearly enough to worth switching from Vive Elite to any of them. I'm personally OK with 90Hz refresh rate and the ~2000x2000 per eye resolution; what I want the most is an increase in field of view degrees: at least 120 vertically and at least 150 horizontally. I know there are some mixed reality headsets that have higher FOV, but the best quality and highest compatibility with video games is offered by Meta, HTC and Valve, so I strongly believe it's best to stick with these 3 brands.
I don't like how you tried to compare a quest 2 with a £1500 quest pro. If someone wanted something around that price then they'd get themselves a Valve Index or something, if someone got a quest 2 it's a big chance they don't have the budget to get that. Instead of spreading the idea that people should upgrade from quest 2 to quest pro, instead they should be waiting for the quest 3 to come out. Honestly I don't know why you even made this video since they were made for relatively different things, quest pro for work and productivity and quest 2 for games, ect. The price range is so different there is no real reason to compare them. Looking through it, it looks like the quest 3 will use a different processer which will make it 2 fold the power of the quest 2. It will likely have pancake lenses to keep up with the competition so honestly just wait for the quest 3.
@@CubeySky it’s best to wait for the three if you are going to buy next year anyway. make sure to check the specs and price for the quest 3 and compare it to the quest two to make sure the price is worth it when the 3 comes out.
Terrific review! Quick question: About text reading w/ the quest pro, how bad is it? I am trying to sense how good it is with e.g. Google docs and/or sheets and/or slides. Or something more advanced: suppose you go through a financial report, how exhausted are you going to be?
Probably when the quest 3 comes out, its price is gonna be atleast $500 or $600. Maybe because theyre gonna maybe have a different strap on, maybe longer bettery life, newer lenses, and some other stuff thats gonna be an upgrsde from the quest 2 (which I have ever since it came out for $300, which is now 400) hope to get to see this quest 3 when it comes out. Good luck meta 👍
@@Machiavelli2pc that was the same price as the quest 2 btw. Since they will be more improvements ti the new one. It should be a bit more expensive then the quest 2
@@monkeman6470 nah, the original Quest was $400, and when they launched the Quest 2, it was $300. The Quest 2 was a _significant_ upgrade over the Quest 1, mind you. I’d say they’re likely to do the same thing with the Quest 3 and launch it at a lower price than the Quest 2 since they did exactly that when the Quest 2 launched.
hang on, you just done a mistake, the quest pro comes with a charging doc, which charges the controllers as well at the same time, so don't need to get an optional charging doc.
Great video, it's nice to see more serious tech sites really appreciating the hardware in the Quest Pro, I feel a lot of the RU-vid influencers really didn't understand or value all the things that the Quest Pro can, and why it justifiably costs so much more. It could equally be that they have large audiences of mostly casual VR gamers and were aiming their videos directly at them. My own experiences with the Quest Pro have been overwhelmingly positive however. It's my seventh VR headset and I wanted something to replace my current Quest 2, Reverb G2 setup. It's a significant upgrade over both of them, and runs PCVR games incredibly well, with visuals easily surpassing both my Reverb G2 and my Vive Pro 2, despite a lack of display port and comparatively low resolution. The lenses are absolutely phenomenal giving the headset true edge to edge clarity making it far more immersive and comfortable to use for long periods. I get a lot of people hate Meta, and a lot of people think £1500 is an expensive price for a VR headset, but for me, this is hands down the best hybrid standalone/PCVR headset on the market and it's only going to get better with software updates and new titles.
Good to hear someone thats been having a great experience with the Quest Pro. For me it's being mostly negative even though I love the quality image and controls. Question to you: don't you have headaches due to the excessive pressure on you forehead? I use for 10 min and already feel it... I just ordered a strap for wrap on the sides of the headset and lift it up a bit and remove the pressure but not sure what else I could do
@@erickb4046 I found it really uncomfortable at first but over the last two or three days its stopped bothering me. I don't know if my head has got used to it, or I've worn the foam pads in or something but the last couple days it hasn't really bothered me. I did order a top strap too though, but that hasn't arrived yet. Beyond just more comfort I'm hoping it will give the headset more stability as it does wobble a bit side to side in active games for me.
@@kevinbrook7033 yeah I'm also waiting for the top strap to arrive to test it. Also I read that some people are flipping the back pad. Have you tried that? It feels a bit better but less stable on your head
@@erickb4046 I did try it but I felt it made my FOV look a little off, like too high up. I'm at the point now where the comfort isn't bothering me too much now anyway. I'm wearing it looser than before. I think with a top strap from stability it should be fine. As the front and rear pads pop out I'm hoping some third parties will replace them with something softer. A VRCover faux leather cushion pad at the front would completely fix it in my opinion.
I bought Quest 2 during pandemic ($299) so I could play DCS WORLD using my 3090. It was fun, but I haven’t touched it in months. I would never spend this much on a VR headset.
Yes the £300 price was a no brainer for someone sitting on the fence with VR, now its £400 expectations are higher. I loved VR but found the quantity of must have games to be lacking back in Q3 2021 when i sold mine and its not improved much since. But there are still a lot of fanboi's for Quest 2 that deny these facts.
You just mentioned the lens distance. Could this be a reason that I often get double vision when people or objects get too close? I also have MS and can get double vision when I'm exhausted or tired.
@@iakobkv271 As someone who has both and I played with quest pro for a week, the difference is stark, and you have to try it yourself. It's similar to talking about hifi speaker to a friend vs having your friend actually listen to it. For me, it is about the reduced eye strain (almost edge to edge clear, very similar to human eye but less FOV), less cable (use only 1 for Oculus Link), ease of use putting it on and off, exceptionally good tracking for the controllers (just need ambient light), and no base stations. People complain about discomfort, but I think they are exaggerating. There are forehead adjustments and perhaps they missed it.
They're not putting the price that high because of upgrades, they made it high because they think big companies are going to buy them and they don't care about cost...
Im excited about this for work but the docking to charge and rechargeable batteries sucks Using my headset today and it lasts only an hour so to upgrade to this for work and not be able to move with a USB C cable plugged into the headset after the first 45 minutes would be a big hassle you have to leave the experience
just got my quest pro yesterday. the only thing that i regret is that i owned the original cv1 and i have many games that i bought over the time, over 300 worst of games that i wont be able to use with the pro. :(
If you’re using the pro for work you can only use it for 2 hours then you have to wait for it to charge again that’s ridiculous and completely defeats it’s purpose.
3:14 Not entirely accurate. You can easily set the IPD to an in between setting and it will stay there. Pretty sure the headset recognizes the in between setting and changes the display accordingly, too.
As a quest 2 owner The problem is still the software. The graphics still suck on these things. The pro headset will not be a successful product because of the price.
@Cnet what about the Meta Quest Pro vs Microsoft's Halolens 2? I've been wanting the Halolens 2 but its still rediculously priced the basic model being more than twice as much that the quest pro, with the top version being priced around 6k.
And me being poor as usual and stupid here. I got an oculus quest 2 with a lot of effort working on the street selling sweets, I got it with a lot of hard work during 1 year of work, I just wanted one of these to study my information technology courses to try a job later. And you can get one of these easily. Since they are rich why not donate one of these......
Pulled out my Quest 2 after not using it for 8 months. After 30 seconds of use, the right controller stopped tracking. Completely bricked. Meta's suggestion, replace the headset. It was only 2 years old and only had about 50 hours of use. Beyond warranty, so they won't replace it. Not buying another Quest 2. Not buying a Pro either. Maybe a Quest 3 plus an extended warranty... but I don't trust them after this.
One of the biggest problem for quest 2 for me is the resolution. The image is not sharp and its kind of unsatisfying when I use it for playing racing games where most of the time we need to look directly forward. Now I heard that Pro can track our eyes and increase the resolution of the screen where we focus looking on to create sharper image but i would love to see how sharp. I hope someone can provide a video to demo this feature
The Quest 2 has 18PPD, while the Quest Pro has around 30. 60 PPD is the point where if you increase the resolution, our eyes won't be able to tell a difference. The Quest Pro's display is much better
Way over priced when I returned mine for a £1500 refund in October 2022. I can get one now 6mths later with Meta full light blocker, Meta earphones and a power pack for £750 which a more realistic price with the extras so I may give the pro another go.
Seems cool but too pricey for now. And the battery life needs to be better. Does this play any Rift S games for the PC or just limited to the quest game store?
Why should I as a gamer buy a Quest pro? What would I do with it that requires such a headset? Instead I just keep my Quest2 for Quest specific games and I just bought a Pico4 for my PCVR gaming. That is....until the Quest3 comes on the market with significant improvements...
Quest Pro is a quintessential example of a device for early adopters. Unquestionably expensive, limited external development, limited use cases, and obvious deficiencies (battery life) that only enthusiasts should buy at this point in the product life cycle until Meta is able to manufacture and sell them for cheaper (and hopefully with a longer battery life). What I cannot accept is the idea of a regular office employee wearing a VR headset for multiple hours a day in order to have virtual monitors instead of simply buying three actual monitors that will surely be more comfortable to use. It's reminiscent of when the Segway was revealed and it was hard to imagine people riding those dorky-looking giant scooters in droves down the sidewalk despite media and the company's PR team insisting upon it being the inevitable future. Turned out everyone's common-sense gut reaction was the correct one.
what im wondering is if the pro controllers are compatible with the quest 2 cuz it seems like a better bet to get the quest 2 with the pro controllers than wait to see them release the quest 3 with a lower res screen
I’ll probably get the Quest 3 when that comes out and then sell my Quest 1 on eBay!! Won’t be using it enough to justify the higher Pro price! One wonders if everyone is coming out with “Pro” devices because “someone” will buy it like the iPhone Pro!
my only problem with virtual reality headsets is.....there is no reasonable keyboard for them...the last keyboard I saw was no longer available and priced at $500 for VR headset compatibility. When they have a keyboard that works for the headsets, then the VR hardware will take off
