Questionable Schindler Hydraulic Elevator at the McArthur Center South Garage in Norfolk, VA 

The gasket seal gland on the cylinder which the piston passes though is worn or loose, there is a bolted flange holding it in place. Oil clings to the piston when it rises, then puddles on the cylinder when it comes back down. Loose too much oil in the hydro tank, will put a strain on the power unit to reach the upper levels.

It is actually low of oil when it reach the top. They needs to fix that leaking.

It sure is, with how sluggish it levels on the top floor. Hope they call their elevator company for service. @@Highwayelevators

It's hard to describe. If you've ever smelled automatic transmission fluid, it's kind of like that; oily and slightly burnt.

It doesn't really smell 'bad', it's just not something you want to smell before you get on a machine that depends on it.
