Helen Tworkowski and Roger Patterson will answer question that have been previously sent in and discuss topics that are posed by Richard Senior.
Helen is a new face to a BIBBA panel. She says “I have been keeping bees since 2001. My colonies are kept in the temperate and wet Tamar Valley on the border of Devon and Cornwall. Most of my 30 colonies are in deep National Hives. These suit my style of beekeeping.
My bees are a dark mongrel and they generally seem to cope with the climate. I try to breed bees that are able to cope with varroa and that are good tempered. I have made most mistakes a beekeeper can make, and probably still have a few more to make.”
Roger is a long-time beekeeper who has travelled widely, allowing him to understand the different ways that different beekeepers in different areas keep their bees.
