Hey there! Welcome to a quick and easy tutorial detailing how to change your oil on a sealed Briggs and Stratton Lo206 motor.
When we started karting earlier this year, we turned to RU-vid for the basics. Unfortunately, there wasn't a tutorial under 30 minutes about how to change your oil, which is ridiculous!
At our first race, we made a mistake with an oil change that ended up costing several hundred dollars to fix. We hope this quick tutorial will ensure no one makes the same mistake, and can learn these essential skills with minimal effort! :)

Great video! I just picked up my lo206 kart in winter and I’m going to be firing it up for the first time this week. I’m 99% sure it has oil in it but is there a dip stick on the motor or someway to check that it has oil. Thank you

Hey Batta! That's great to hear, you're going to love it. Unfortunately, there's no real way to check like in a car engine. I suppose you could open the yellow fill hole and look inside, or stick something in as a makeshift dip-stick to see. However if you're starting it for the first time since you got it, I would definitely drain what oil is in it and replace with fresh oil. To run the risk is not worth it....see my vlog 01.....Also who knows what old or messed up oil the previous owner had in there. (If you got it new, they are shipped without oil for safety). In conclusion, I would highly recommend changing to fresh oil for the sake of the engine and not running the risk of blowing your bottom end like I did. :) Best of luck!!

@@EthanPalosh thanks for the quick response! I actually just tipped the kart a little back, un screwed the yellow fill plug and had just a little bit of oil spill out which is exactly what I wanted to see! Should be good for a first start up! I will do an oil change on track where I can buy all the supplies I need (I’m kind of far away from my local track) Cheers!

Batta, that’s awesome! Glad it all works out. I’m also pretty far away from my local track so I know exactly what you mean. 🤣 Good luck!!

Hey im just getting into karting and i was wandering what are the essential things i need to make sure my kart has before i go out to my first race
@EthanPalosh
@EthanPalosh 2 года назад
Hey! This would be a question for your local track. Find out what the technical regulations are and what is required to be legal to race! Hope this helps!

How often do you change your oil?
@EthanPalosh
@EthanPalosh 3 года назад
Hey! I usually change the oil every 3 outings at the track, whether it be a practice session or a race. This is generally on the longer side, and I know people who change oil every weekend. The more often you change it, the better off your motor will be. Hope this helps!!

Briggs and Stratton recommends 14-16 ounces. What made you decide on 13 ounces?
@EthanPalosh
@EthanPalosh 2 года назад
Hey! Honestly, I'm not quite sure the basis of the decision, but my local kart shop owner swears by it so I follow his guidance. I wouldn't expect it to change too much about performance however, so do what you are comfortable with!

Briggs says 14 only. Not up to 16 ounces.

Why do you attach the weights on the kart like that?
@EthanPalosh
@EthanPalosh 3 года назад
Hey Ellis! We chose to mount the weights on the chassis due to the large amount we need. 40lbs of lead weights on the seat - while possible - is 1. expensive, and 2. (more importantly) would put tons of stress on the mounting points on the seat. We decided to engineer our own solution, and it works for us! Hopefully I can gain some weight and switch to a seat-mounted version soon. :)

Cool. I had a friend whose seat cracked because he put so much weight on it. Come over to Speedsportz or GCKI for a race one day!

So the Briggs and Stratton book says 14 ounces of oil.
