I’m on the Camino now! I’ll finish around August 31st. I didn’t plan to walk and traveled to SJPP from Yerevan (Armenia) so I had nothing, outside of my regular clothes. 😂 😂😂 I’ve been world traveling since last November. I left my suitcase, with my old Peace Corps host family, in Armenia, and then purchased walking shoes, a hat, walking poles, and a backpack 🎒.

It is great to see what actually makes it I to the pack during a trip and what didn’t turn out to be necessary. Thanks for another useful video.

Fantastic to see everything that fits on a pretty small backpack. Since I've been living on a sailboat I've gotten used to washing my underwear every night in the sink, so I totally understand only needing a few pairs of knickers and sports bras. Can't wait to do my first camino❤

Really enjoyed your PC from a year or so ago. Was wondering what is the size your pack? Also, about how many miles do you wear you "shoes" before trading and do you use boots, trail runners, etc? Buen Camino

Is it rare that there is no way of boiling water in the albergues in the morning? If yes, I must found an electric coil like yours, I need my tea ! :) Can you give us a link to the one you have please? Thank you so much for your videos, so informative!
@NadineWalks
@NadineWalks 8 месяцев назад
Albergues often have a microwave but not always, and I've been caught several times without a way to boil water (though it also depends on which route you're walking!) I think an electric coil is definitely not needed for most, but I really like having mine with me. This is the kind I purchased: Lewis N. Clark Portable Immersion Water Heater

Hi Nadine, what I found useful was clothes pegs, washing line and liquid soap to wash clothes. Many hostels use clothes driers, which annoys me.
@peterexpatkiwi
@peterexpatkiwi Год назад
Ditto, except I use safety pins rather than pegs. Smaller, lighter and your washing doesn't fly off the line when it's windy. Plus you can use them for holding wet washing on your backpack. Come to think of it, I suspect I got that tip from one of Nadine's previous videos 😂
@NadineWalks
@NadineWalks Год назад
Great advice! I also bring clothes pegs (I might have forgotten to mention that), and use the bar of soap for washing, but liquid soap is probably just as good, if not better!

What size pack do you have? I'm using an Osprey 32L for the Portuguese Camino in 3 weeks. Thank you for your time and excellent advice! Bom Camino!

quick question about morning coffee: I saw you packed a few instant coffee sachets - is that necessary or will I find vending machines at albergues? I'm just genuinely worried I might have to hit the road before having my cup of joe (awful!)

So interesting to see what you take on your Caminos! When you get home do you go through everything and look at what you used and what you didn't? I do that after backpack trips.

I can't believe you didn't need your emergency tuna, especially with the lack of services you've encountered. I went through 5 tins of emergency tuna this year and almost needed a 6th. Great video, thanks for sharing 😊

Thanks for another great video; I relied on them to prepare for my first Camino this past spring. I'd love it if you were to share a picture of your credential! I loved collecting sellos, and my own completed credential is much more dear to me than my Compestela!

Would you recommend taking a town dress something to wear after hiking? I believe in a previous video you had a black dress, I am more comfortable in a simple dress at the end of the day

Hi helpful vid. What size back pack did you have
@NadineWalks
@NadineWalks Год назад
It’s a 24 liter- pretty small, but it works for me! (though when it’s time for a new pack I’ll probably get a slightly bigger one, something like 32 liters would be perfect for the Camino)

Where do you find electricity to use for your electric coil when out walking? And how much extra room do you have in your pack with all that stuff in it? I know your pack is a 24. I'm trying to decide on one and would love to go that small. Thanks! xo, Aurora

Hi. I assume you're a guy (Philip), so yes I think you can bring a bigger pack. Some ppl recommend 35 to 40L only and to keep the weight around 10% of your body weight. I haven't done the Camino but my pack is 40L (I'm a girl). I've used it for some hikes and yes, I think that 10% of body weight (or less) is ideal. If you're a filmmaker or vlogger, your pack may be heavier due to more equipment. I think in other vids, Nadine has mentioned that her pack is 24L. Hope that helps. Buen camino!

Did you get your Back Pack on the plane as Carry On again , do you have a bag for it so the straps are not loose ? Do you have a waterproof bag to take your valuables in the shower with you ? I know always Questions 😂 This is my bag of snacks , and this is my other snacks and this is my emergency snacks Lol Sorry couldn’t resist Thank you very much for showing your kit it helps Chronic over packers like myself 😅
@NadineWalks
@NadineWalks Год назад
Yes, I’ve never had a problem getting my backpack on as a carry on! And since it’s in the overhead bin I don’t put it in a bag or anything, I’d probably only do that if I were checking it. And the daybag I use is what I take into the shower, it’s not quite waterproof but somewhat water resistant, and never gets too wet. And the snacks, HA! So many!! 😂 (please don’t apologize for the questions!! That’s why I post stuff like this!)

Awesome video! I start my first camino in two weeks and I have a question about booking the space for the night. Do you book the space in advance or look for it when you arrive to your destination? I am nervous I might struggle with finding a place for the night.
@peterexpatkiwi
@peterexpatkiwi Год назад
Book your first couple of nights and take it from there, if you're walking the Frances, the first three nights. And don't overdo those first couple of days - we're not all Nadine's! No way I can do some of the kms she's capable of 😊

@@NadineWalks thanks, yes I found it. And thanks for doing the shoe video! I was inspired by yours and Liam Briwns videos of the Portuguese coastal route. Am getting things together and wondering why the heck did I think I could do it. Trying to ignore those thoughts. Planning to leave early May. X

I'm curious, you don't walk with a water bladder?
@nadinekarel8639
@nadinekarel8639 Год назад
I don't- with my pack and the size of my water bottle, I can easily reach around to grab it as I'm walking (and put the bottle back in the side pocket easily too). I know water bladders can be convenient, but since I have no trouble accessing my water bottle, I think that refilling it is much more convenient than a bladder would be. But I do think this is a matter of personal preference!

@@NadineWalkshi. Is the Vaseline a lotion/ moisturiser or petroleum jelly? I'm not from the US. Here, the Vaseline brand makes lotions but your small container looked like petroleum jelly to me. Thnx!

I just bought a small plastic water bottle at the store, and put it in a freezer whenever the albergue had one (and it was quite often!)
