So does this mean that you’re going through your whole gallery in photoshop? Or is it just for when you’re wanting to post on Instagram? Or are you doing this on every photo to deliver to South Carolina?

With respect to the wrap around light when shooting the use of black panels stops the wrap around. The ratio for the lighting is 1 1/2 stops brighter on the background than your subject lighting. The large black panels sit right on the backdrop and then also a second set 1 meter back from the subject. If you turn off the subject light and take a shot you will be able to move the panels in or out tor remove the wrap around. Ive used this method for 35 years on fashion shoots. Works with film or digital.

Why not just use background selection in Lightroom Classic? I just did Headshots for a company last week and would have liked to have seen this video before. Trying to have the same cropping was the thing that gave me the most problems. I'll be using this method from now on.

I’ve been using masks in Lightroom to just that, except I’ve been changing shades of colors for backdrops but have yet to try making something white like that. Fantastic stuff as always James! So appreciate sharing your extensive knowledge to us!

I’ve hassled with the big Lastolite HiLight backgrounds for so many years now to get perfect white, this could be a better technique as you don’t have to worry about the light coming back off the background and “wrapping” around their arms and legs, reducing contrast. Maybe we can someone to make an action for this so the process can be scripted or batched!

The only issue would be double checking the selection since they aren't always perfect. Stay tuned though I'm working on something else I might have a video on in a couple weeks!

Great vid! I only have access to a white curtain. Any tips to try to get the wrinkles out of the curtain in post? I've tried everything I can think of with photoshop.

Give this technique a try. I would think pulling that curve far enough would do the trick.

So when you use curves, is it making the value pure white or is there some sort of texture? I always feel a little weird on pure white seems like the are floating. Could you neutralize the color cast while still keeping some information on the backdrop?
