Great video an effort from Dave and his team at Kessler. Great place to buy everything as a sax musician you might need. They are top of the line in the industry and have the best service I have ever seen. Having such a nice comparison with such a great musician as Charles McNeal is so much appreciated.

nice. I am torn between the 54 and supreme. The 54 may be my favorite because it sounds dark and sweet. The supreme is slightly brighter. Beautiful complex sound. mmm...

Terms like "Dark" & "Bright" are obviously subjective. I actually think that the Supreme is overall a bit mellower in tone because it is a bit more open and broad of a sound whereas the Reference is very focused. A happy "in between" is also the Series II equipped with a Series III neck. This has long been one of our top recommendations for customers who want a bit of everything. We had Charles do that combo at the end of our Supreme Neck comparison video. Take a list to that. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q48wvmH1Uas.html

I own both now, a Reference 54, and the Supreme. While I love my Reference, the Supreme is easier to maintain the intonation on the horn. With the Reference, I have to use mouth gymnastics to keep the horn in tune. The Supreme stays in tune a lot better. I didn't think I would like the Concept mouthpiece on this horn, but the mouthpiece is perfectly matched to the horn. Same with the ligature. Even the neck strap is perfectly matched and is very comfortable on my neck. The Supreme case is a bit heavy. I love the Reference case, but if the case is really going to protect my horn, I'm ok with that. The Supreme case has a lot of pockets so I can keep my mouthpiece, neck strap, cork grease, swabs, and reeds in the case. The Reference icase is sorely lacking in that department. With the Supreme case, there is even a pocket for music. The Supreme case even has straps so it can be carried as a backpack. No saxophone is going to produce instant beautiful sounds. It takes a lot of air time to get the warm sounds that an alto saxophone can make. Having the experience playing the Reference 54 for over 4 years, now beginning the Supreme, I highly recommend the Supreme. Im also highly recommend buying any saxophone from Kessler. Good people who care about their customers. Thank you Kessler and Sons Music for keeping music in my life.

The Reference 54 sounds gorgeous, followed by the Supreme which sounds nice but a little brighter to me. Series II meh.

James, take a look as well at the Series II with a Series III neck... we did this comparison in our Supreme neck video... here's the direct link to the II with the III neck - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q48wvmH1Uas.html

Well, I noticed that I sound exctly the same on a Yamaha 62 as I do a Selmer Supreme. That maybe just me but I am thinking, the tool doesn't make the craftsman.

The serie 11 sounds muffled in comparison.

In comparison, yes it can. However, the Series II still offers some great flexibility since changing the neck makes a big difference on the Series II. In another video, we tested the Supreme neck on the Series II (& Reference 54) which makes a great difference and we also did the Series III neck on the II body which has always been one of our top recommendations for customers on a new Selmer. Take a look at that video... here is the direct link to the III neck on the II body - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q48wvmH1Uas.html
