Consistent watering was always a problem for me. Trying to find the time to stand in the garden and water everything with a hose was always a challenge. No I don't have to worry about it ever again!! In this video, I will take you though my entire watering system that was so easy, I was able to install it in 3 hours.

Great video -- A few suggestions from experience. The hose end battery timers have a pretty short life if exposed to sun. I'm in Hawaii and run school gardens. Either build a simple shade hut over them or consider integrating into regular irrigation with an electric clock/controller. Also when figuring out your zones, do it based on water needs. Trees need infrequent but deep water compared to vegetable beds. If you have a large yard, you may want to consider 3/4" Drip line instead of the 1/2". 1/2" works for most yards under 8000 sq ft but it is really disappointing to find you don't get enough water through the line to water all your plants.
@Goody2shzToo
@Goody2shzToo 4 года назад
I have found in my landscape the plants that are close to the beginning of the line get drenched before the ones later on the line get enough. Is the larger hose the answer?
@webcompanion
@webcompanion Год назад
@@Goody2shzToo It can be but you could also do a loop type of run on the main 1/2" poly line so that there is more even pressure all the way around. This makes pressure go 2x as far. Some people call this a manifold system. It costs a little more in supply line but your plants will thank you for it.
@Goody2shzToo
@Goody2shzToo Год назад
@@webcompanion thank you! Three years later. Lol. So, do you mean a giant loop going around the whole garden with feeder lines going off it to individual plants or individual areas?
@Thefuentesco
@Thefuentesco 7 месяцев назад
@@Goody2shzToogreat question! That happened to my beds too. The ones at the beginning of the line were drenched, those towards the end were thirsty

I have a half acre lot which is completely landscaped. Everything, with the exception of the lawn ( about 1/4 of the yard) is on drip that I installed 15 years ago. With the exception of an occasional clogged emitter, the system has worked flawlessly. It has saved me countless hours of time watering. If you want to add another plant, just poke another hole in the line and add an emitter. Easy. I highly recommend it.

Hey Brian ~ I'm 71 and my husband passed away last October. We had one year in on a very large garden with about 10 raised beds. I had decided not to garden this year but with the virus and grocery store issues, I decided I'd better give it a go on my own. I discovered your channel when looking up some issues and absolutely love you, your lovely family and your videos. I'm wondering if you are set up as an Amazon affiliate so you could get a little commission if we buy from the links you provide. Hopefully with all your subscribers now, you can do this. Thanks for all your time and effort. Sending love and prayers for continued improvement on your health.

I have an MRI scheduled in a couple of weeks if it doesn't get canceled... to see how things are going.

I bought a ‘kit’ years ago and it stayed in my shed for years. Being self employed didn’t leave me much time for gardening but last year, now I am retired, I dug that kit out and being practical I installed it for my new hanging baskets and tubs. Amazon was soon needed to buy extra components and then the greenhouse was my next project- Oh Boy! What a boon! I just sat and watched the Control start to water my baskets and tubs. The greenhouse is always watered and as I Caravan for lengthy periods during the summer, I come back to beautiful full flower displays. I can’t recommend it enough. Goof plug ? What a brilliant name for an End Stop! ( here in Britain ) 👍🏻🤣🤣

I liked the presentation as this guy kept it on topic, didn’t go into his philosophy on life, gardening, relatives or other minutiae. Those that yap on and on just to hear themselves talk are annoying thieves of my, and others, time. This guy was on point mostly & easily understood as to his setup, the benefits, the do’s & don’ts, and certainly helpful. Overall, a great teaching job. 🤓 I just wish he said where he got this system but then perhaps I missed that part with all my grandkids providing me the ‘music’ of their playing tag. Love it !

Hey, Brian. I’ve been watching your posts for two years now but just figured out how to subscribe. The hot buttons on the videos never worked for me so I went another route. Success! My comment: I like soaker hoses. I use 1/2” drip lines also. The soakers work really well for me on my 3 raised beds. I have 25 to 50 feet in each bed, set the timer to 3 minutes every other day and that’s it. Done! I like the way they water the entire surface of the bed to allow for good surface roots as well as deep ones. The way I got around the uneven pressurization of the soaker hose is pretty simple. Just use a 3/4” hose splitter; connect the soaker to it and bring the terminal end back to the splitter. Now you have a closed loop. I also fashioned a type of manifold directly from the hose bib. I have a length of garden hose from the house bib which runs into a 10’ length of 4” pvc. I cut the pvc added 3 tees where I needed them to feed the beds and end caps. PVC fittings to accommodate the 3/4” hoses connected to the tees are easy to find. So now I have an “accumulator” of sorts which maintains even pressure to each set of splitters and closed loop soakers on each bed. I don’t know if the accumulator is necessary since the soaker hoses are connected to the water source both ends, but why not? My drip system is mostly all 1/2” solid tubing used for my in ground beds. I simply install emitters where I need them. You can get ten-packs of drip emitters at HD or Lowes. I use 2- 2gph emitters for tomato’s and 1-1gph for most other plants. I’m still messing with how many minutes and days to run the system. 15 minutes a day seemed to work fine but I increased it to 30 because my soil drains well. So far so good. Thanks for all your great videos.

Nice work and the fun part of it - there is always something more to do :)! For water delivery to the beds, I'd consider a 3/4" flexible hose. I did something like your setup but the next year I replaced the drip line with drip tape and covered it, the result was dramatically less water usage (I assume much less loss to evaporation, but I did not do any measuring). At the time I was in SoCal where water is extremely expensive. Integration into my existing irrigation system was a goal I realised in year three. The drip in the beds has its own zone, then the next year two zones. With approximately 1200sf beds, I use less water than I did in a single 128sf bed using overhead watering. The valve you installed is an EXCELLENT choice for every bed.

I like using buried 1/4 inch soaker hoses. It isn't always possible but if you can bury them in raised beds or containers, it makes it much better to water from the bottom up. It forces the plant's roots to seek out water deeper into the soil. I don't live where there are water controls but even in my area the cost of city water is expensive! Plus, it is so much easier to simply go outside, turn on the faucet once or twice a day in July or August and know everything is watered. A timer is nice but not necessary.

I really enjoy your videos and learn a lot from them art being a big advocate for drip irrigation sensory 1980s I I converted my farm from impact sprinklers to drip because I could see the waste and runoff plus water sitting on the Leaves is an invitation for diseases. It was fed from the Grunfos pump via a 2 inch black poly pipe 2A filter and then the pressure reducer which of course was a lot bigger and stronger than the domestic ones, then I had it t peace from that I ran another poly pipe across the paddock then I would drill holes into the pipe with a hole saw put in in an adaptor and from that run flat types with forehead rip holes in them but at the end instead of bending them back to stop it which I still originally I was concerned about blockages so I installed cheap drip system valves tattoo flash the lines out individually I just walk along the bottom of the paddock open one for a few seconds to shut it and then next one certainly was a lot of effort inquired and expense to start with but I saved so much water it wasn't funny. Now set of sold my farm I'm living on a normal block I brought all my equipment with me including a controller 12 stations on it it was originally for propagation so I can have it run poor a couple of seconds coming on every minute if I wanted to or have it running for an hour so I had this now for my whole garden I left the trip system and the poly pipe behind because that wouldn't be any good to me the shame was person about the farm ripped it all out and scrapped it but that's his loss not mine and what happened there is a drought which it and the damned has run dry he was complaining to a neighbour oh Rick Tommy he had pumping rights for 50 megalitres the neighbour just looked at him smiled and said or mate if you want to pump mud go right ahead he would not have been in that position if you hadn't have wasted so much water with impacts

That will be an interesting experiment! It's super low pressure so it might work.

How can you say this is easy? I would never garden again. Too complicated! Terrific garden

Really? It was pretty easy for me, the hardest part was having to sit in the sun for thirty minutes putting it together. You literally just put a big hose across your garden, use attachments if you need to make new crossing hoses, and poke holes in the hose next to your plants and put a dripper in the hole. If you can poke a hole in something and use a pair of scissors I think you can figure it out lmao, my kit didn't even have a single direction and I still figured it out.

Huh? This looks easy enough to me. May take a bit more time for me, probably a day considering the distance I have to cover from the garden faucet to the area where the beds are, since we have some steep slopes. Just wondering about whether or not it could be left out for the winter. That same slope makes it easy to drain it at the end of fall, so I shouldn't be too worried about water left in the hose & tubing.

That is another great video. So informative. We are looking into an irrigation system. This had really helped me figure out how it can be done. I imagine, that in fall I will need to remove it as we get some pretty cold temperatures in Ontario.

So I am hoping that if I follow the Amazon links you will get a small pittance for your time and knowledge-thank you for all your help over the past 2 years I have been following you- would like to give back. PS- when I click on several links takes me to one of those links where you have to chose another vendor-

Hahaha i would actually love to stand in the hot sun.. with or without the water hose 😂 but we rarely get that kinda thing here.. finland 😋 so i just try to stand in our cool summer sun as much as possible every summer before it again disappears for months 😏 well even though i do envy the warmer climates i try to not complain (at least not too much LOL) and make the best of what i have 😎 now spring time and only 2feet snow left 🤣

You made this easier than I thought it would be. I cannot not seem to find what the max length the brown tubing can be cut too. My garden is in rows of 42 feet and I have 2 beds of perennials 100 feet long.
