I made my cup cozy pattern the way you mentioned - opened up one I got at a coffee shop (NOT Starbuck's - hate their coffee!) - and used it as a template. Seems I've been on a mugrug kick lately, and this video came up in my suggested ones on RU-vid. Totally enjoyed watching it; it's a different approach from what I've been doing.

Very cute project! FYI- your dark print fabric was not straight on the side that needed trimming. It through off the red print. It could have been the quilting. But love the project!
