I am 22, have 2 younger brothers who can do this as well as mum and dad and I couldn’t, I’ve tryed to do it for ages before and couldn’t witch made me feel realy left out with them. They have tried to teach me nut I never got it. I watched this after randomly popping up in my feed and tryed doing it. I have been at it for 20ish minutes and when I fianly got it I kid you not I jumped up out of my bed in excitement. I am so unbelievably happy that I have found how to do this. I hope you read this dude because you’ve had a very profound effect on me. And I couldn’t be happy for it. Thank you from all of my heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤️
Bro I kid you not, I don't remember being this happy about lerning something in the past 10 years as I am now after doing it alongside the video. Thanks man, you made my day, and possibly my week, or month
Thanks for the feedback. I’m glad you’re so happy. My dad taught me years ago and now ive taught my boys (and tons of people on RU-vid). It’s amazing we can make a small instrument with our hands.
@@FamilyNonsenseI was able to learn it within 30 seconds, it made me quite happy tbh since it’s quite a unique whistle it creates. Very useful for call-outs with my mates hahaha
Idk what's going on with my phone but for some reason I'm unable to comment unless I hit a reply button so my apologies for intruding here but just like this commenter, I too have gotten results... Bro, I'm 31 and I'm filled with childlike glee rn... It is little but when I was in scouts as a child, as one of the few who never learned how to, I had a sour memory Abt it along with the teasing children do when you're the odd one out... It was small but it made me feel really happy knowing I could do this too and it was all about technique... Along with that, I felt like giving up at other things currently in my life but this small thing made me think I just need to change my approach, so thanks bro... For not just this but making me put other things into perspective even further 😌👌🏾
@@christiophermodeste8666 What a story! Thank you for sharing all this. It’s wild how things can stick with us for so long. I’m glad this small victory can help with your perspective in other areas, too. I’m 37 with a house full of kids (5) and yesterday I watched my 5 month old daughter practice sitting up. Money can’t buy the joy I had there. Hey, God bless you (that’s where the real perspective change happens ☺️).
I’m 77 yo and this is the FIRST time I’ve ever been able to get any sound! A couple of minutes later, I could change the pitch! Woohoo and thank you!! Such detailed descriptions and several “start over” instructions made it happen.
Wow it's super cool the sensation when you first make it sound! I finally did it in a few minutes with your tutorial...I still am not able to do it consistently, but it happened once and now I know I can do it better, just with more practice!
@@FamilyNonsensei cant do it i watched this video 5 times and tried for 30 minutes and I still cant do it im doing the exact same thing as in the video😔
My god I can't believe I was able to learn this within couple mins, you sir are a very good instructor because I have always been a slow learner on everything. Thank you for this tutorial!
Let’s go! Thanks for the feedback. I’m glad I was able to help. There is a link to another version of the hand whistle in the description. You might find that easier ( kind of depends though)
IT WORKED!!! I din't position my hands correctly, like what you said here 1:46 And to my surprise, it absolutely worked! It's not as good or clean sounding as your's, but I'm gonna keep practicing. Thanks.
BRO I'VE BEEN WATCHING TUTORIALS FOR THE PAST HALF AN HOUR, AND AFTER POSITIONING MY HANDS THE WAY YOU DID, I GOT IT IN THE FIRST TRY I'M LITERALLY SO HAPPY I'M JUMPING. WITHIN 2 MINUTES
Whoa! I was shifting around with the hand/lip configuration from whooshes/squeaks then bam a clearly pitched tone sustained, I felt the reverberations inside my palms, what a strange and wonderful feeling! I think the most helpful tips and some of my notes are the spherical interior, with palms arched but not focally tense, lower lip under the knuckles, also keep upper and lower lip relaxed, thumb bones parallel like vocal cords and perpendicular to airflow. You can clasp your hands in other airtight spherical ways, I tried this at night so I looked through the thumbs and made sure no light shone through. once you set up the “instrument”, you can then tinker with the angle and strength of airflow, it needs to be pretty consistent, and stronger than I had imagined. Hope this helps!
This was the best of about ten instructions in tube! You must blow really down. Not necessary to blow hard at all. Thanks a lot! As a schoolboy on the first year I could do this. Now after 70 years the first low whistle came out.
I finally managed to get a sound out (once - lol) thanks to your tutorial. Yours is the first one I've seen where the fingers are bunched together, which gave me the "permission" I needed to adjust my hands to where they seem to need to be. (I kinda have short, stubby fingers relative to the rest of my hand, so I think I was having trouble getting the whole chamber sealed off but still rounded without overlapping any of the fingers on the same hand.)
@@FamilyNonsense I'm now probably about 60-40 on whether I get a sound, and have a whole houseful of kids who are hand-whistling. (Thankfully, my husband is a music guy, so he's not too terribly annoyed by all of our pitiful practice. lol) Thank you!
When I was about 10 my friends could, I couldn't. Oe day I made a sound. Didn't unlock my hands for SEVERAL MINUTES. Fast forward 20+ years. Got to the point that I could play simple songs such as nursery rhythms etc.. then got distracted w/life and now in my 70's. Can't make a sound. Gotta lean all over. LOL
I have been watching tutorials on hand whistling for two weeks now, and this is the one that I was able to succeed with. Your explanation was superb! Thank you!!
I learned this about 50 years ago, probably more. First time I've tried since then. I've managed to make a breathy sound that mayhave had a note in it, so a lot more practice required. Thanks for bringing back some fond memories.
😀😀 You are amazing! Over 40 years of trying and believing that I can whistle but not hand-whistle. And in 30 second of trying your explanation I HAD A SOUND!! What did it for me was BUNCHING UP the fingers of the right hand and your suggestion of HOLDING A LIME: that did the trick for me! 🙃🙃
I just Learn how to hand whistle about three minutes ago by Jonna Jinton But the way you hold your fingers on your right hand made it 1,000,000% easier and no gaps thank you great teacher
Been trying to do this on & off for months with very little success. While watching your video I was able to make a louder clearer sound in the first 2 minutes! I was pretty skeptical at first knowing how hard I had been trying to no avail. I thought, 'well let's just see what he has to say.' Then before the halfway point in the video I was shocked at my improvement. Thanks dude!
I fondly remember my dad doing this when I was younger. He didn’t teach me how to do it before passing away, so I’m glad to have this new skill to remember him by ❤
oh my god! I have been trying to do this for hours, and couldn't get nothing but some painful, squeeky noises, but after watching this video it worked FIRST TRY! THANK YOU!!!
Whenever I show the hand whistle to my classmates they always are shocked and ask me how do I do it and I teach them thanks for this video I spent 9 hours trying to get it down and I finally got it😊
I've been practicing with a slightly different method for over 3 months and with my bony hands, I couldn't get a reliable seal without my hands being wet. Best practice was in the shower! This method helped me in minutes! Now I've found a combination of the two that works for my hands while dry!
yeah been trying a few days only, but couldnt get it from other videos. the change that was immediately successful for me is making a more scrunched up right hand. From the other videos it looked like the fingers had to be nicely next to each other and the space inside should be as large as possible, but at my beginner level the opposite seems to be true @@FamilyNonsense
@@LUCHTHANS4 that’s awesome. I can make tons of sounds with the whistle now and I still scrunch my hands up. Don’t worry about how it looks if you’re getting the sound 😀
Yours is the third tutorial video and the first time it worked for me. It was all about hand angle. The mention of the thumbs and working with the angle worked. Thanks so much!
Let’s go! I’m so glad it helped. There is another tutorial (link in the description) that used a different hand position. That one may be even easier. Either way, you got it!
Thank you so much, I've been trying this for 2 days and it doesn't work and now I'm sitting here watching your tutorial AND IT WORKS! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
It took me a really long time to figure it out, but I finally figured it out which is really cool. What finally allowed me to make a sound was making the hole where the air comes out much smaller than I thought it needed to be. Almost to the point that my knuckles on my thumbs were touching each other.
I gave up on being able to do this many many years ago. I just made sound. It wasn't much. But it was sound. Thank you. Apparently you can teach an old dog new tricks.
This is my 3rd video instruction and only now I was able to do something like a whistle. For me your explanation about the right angle made sense. Thank you.
Also couldn't manage through other tutorials, but your tutorial did the trick! I surprised myself when I first heard the sound and it was even before the video was over!
Sometimes I can do it but mostly I can’t. I know…practice makes perfect. I do want to learn to do it consistently. I’ve heard some beautiful whistling using this method. Thanks for your tutorial. It’s the best one on the internet.
I JUST DID IT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE AT 4AM. I WILL FOREVER KEEP THIS VIDEO SAVED WITH ME. THANK YOU. TOY WEREN'T KIDDING WHEN YOU SAID I'D LEARN IT IN 2-3 MINUTES. :.)
That’s awesome! Keep practicing, the extra sounds just take a little time. Making the smaller bowl for the higher pitch sound is probably the hardest. For the extra note, you can move one finger or you can move all four fingers on the back hand (check out this video to see that method: ru-vid.com2ltmeNEiRf4?feature=share
A nice tutorial. It is always good when by the end of a video your audience is able to make a sound! I've been practicing for almost 60 years and am the Original Pioneer of Handwhistling, selling it as a Professional Musical Instrument. I also taught that the control of the Wind and breathing is more important than a Reed, or a mouthpiece or a traditional instrument. I use Professional Diaphragmatic Breathing Techniques that let me open up and fill the bottom part of the lungs which is behind your stomach. I have mastered every aspect and can hold out notes or phrases for twenty seconds on one breath. Wishing you all the best!
Wow. What an honor to have you comment! My dad taught me and I have taught a few people in person and now tons of people online. Do you have any videos?
Half way through your video and I got it. I tried an instruction from another youtube channel but nothing worked. Thanks. Your instructions were straight forward.
This is the best video I’ve seen, I wasn’t bunching my fingers properly and my hole was too big, thanks for the help bro. I’m now working on it so I can eventually introduce the hand movements for that shaky sound.
i WOULD LIKE TO SAY, I have been trying for a week from another channel. my time stamp here is 3.06. you taught me in less than 3 minutes. thank you! I have subscribed.
Thanks for the video, I didn’t have any luck with this either tried for about 20 minutes or so, just a whole lot of air noises and purple fingers 🤷♂️ just looking at how you’re doing it you make it look effortless to make it airtight I have to literally squeeze my fingers and hands until everything is turning purple when I try to close my thumbs together I open the gap between my thumb and my pointer finger
@@josephgolczynski9218 im so sorry, did you see the version where you hold your hands like you are praying? I think that version is even easier. Im really sorry its not working for you
Great Tutorial!!!! I learned this at 67, after years of Trying. This shows anyone can do it and apparently I have a slow Saturday night LOL Thanks !!Fun!
Oh no. If your hands are air tight (minus the whole between the knuckles on your thumbs) make sure your lips are also secure around the thumb knuckles. If all that is correct, slowly adjust the tilt. You can do it, don’t give up!
@@Nails_bruh possibly, but I get people messaging all the time saying it worked for them. You might think about how you are focusing the air and making sure the air is actually leaving the bowl or whistle you’ve created with your hands at the bottle of the hole the air goes in to.
Thank you so much for sharing this!!! After watching many videos and many different hand positions, yours was the one that worked for me. Again, thank you!
The trick (maybe i was stupid, idunno) i learned is that... A whistle has that 2 rectangular holes where the air goes in and out right? The circular hole made with your thumbs is the rectangular hole where the air goes out. The other rectangular hole where you place your lips and blow air is the upper part if the thumb. That kinda helped me. Like the video said, tilt your hands to a right angle to make it sound. I think i may be stupid.
i just made a song out of this in like 3 minutes after learning it and i learned it right at 2:19 its soooo good i love it it is the easiest way i have ever seen it thanks a lot! 😀😊
