I've been contemplating doing a brief review of this woofer I have just laying around depressed nobody will play with it. Poor fella needed some attention.
Right on, I've gone through all sorts of audio equipment over the years. Car and home alike. Been a hobby of mine since I was very young. Under 10 I was taking apart radios etc.
I have 4 of these going n my Expedition XLT thinking of walling off the truck from the B pillar back or doing a 6th order not sure which I want to go with have 4 JP 23's V2 alternate 450 Amp. 6 AGM batteries
Will be loud that's for sure. Just 1 was doing over 150 dB. Playing the right songs and bass frequency obviously not just banging 150's all the time. Still though if 1 sounds like that... 4 is going to straight dump bass.
I have 8 hippo 15s in my truck pushed by 4 Drago 10k’s and hit 161db first time using massive and so far I like it I would recommend these products to everyone.
I believe it I loved it. Just started drooling over the Orion hcca 15.2 so I sold mine amd bought the hcca as well as a recone kit for it just in case lol. Now... I'm trying to sell the hcca because I picked up a sundown x15 v2. And I'm hoping to add a second one soon.
@@juliosandoval8244 I want to hear the hippo xlr 15. They're like 4k rms or something ridiculous lol. Cost about the same as the Orion or sundown. I haven't even got to hear my sundown sub yet and I've had it like a year. Had to keep sending my truck to get work done. Didn't like my system sitting there for months on end. Hippo amd massive audio subs in general are all pretty good. Definitely good sound quality and as far as I could tell Definitely underrated with some of the subs at least. Others not so much. I was getting 150's with a single hippo 15 in a standard cab f250 it was loud af. I think I have videos of it on here. My oldest videos are mostly hippo content
Right on man thank you. I agree it's definitely a very nice and well built woofer. I've been bumping my Orion hcca 15 for about a year now though. The hippo just sits in a box all lonely n shit lol.

Duuude that's a really tough choice lol. I definitely like the hcca alottt. Also you should know (if you don't already) that the hcca 15" is actually 16" not 15. The only thing that would make me pick hcca over the hippo xlr 15, is that it's super easy to recone Orion hcca subs. Other than that, your guess as good as mine.
Also they have sundown zv5 15's at a discount on the emf audio website. Under "b-stock" which just has minor cosmetic things wrong. Still 100% functional. Another 1 to think about is emf audio banhammer. Personally I'd love to have 2 banhammers or nsv3/nsv4 subs. You can be those b-stock also. I think it was like 779 for a b-stock nsv4. I might be mistaken but just some ideas. However I can tell you this without a doubt... you wouldn't be disappointed with the HCCA.
@@bass-n-truth-inthestix9083 people are under informed and marketing is why sundown has so many nut huggers. If Massive Audio pushed their products like SD then it would have the same effect
@@Outty5000Hertz oh absolutely I couldn't agree more. When I sit here (every night) looking at my hippo 15 I can't help but think, why aren't there more people running massive audio. I mean... thing is built like a rock. I can't imagine how it can be done any better by any company. A well built woofer is a well built woofer. Lol you see me beefing in the comments of the sundown audio yard sale comments? I had so many people mad at me and they thought I was trolling. Sundown is sooo awesome that nobody could actually mean it when they talk bad about them. Yup I was trolling haha. I never troll. I speak what's on my mind and that's it. Sundown fans were so mad. I'll give sundown as a company credit though they didn't fall into the negativity in the comments so that's a cool point for them.
How would you rate the gordos? I've only seen one video of them in a truck and they weren't playing but considering that it's the highest line they have above this I would expect it to be better but I wanted to see how it competed against other brands in its price range
Chad Beverly I don't have any experience with the Gordo series either unfortunately. I'd imagine they are damn good. Is there other subs in that price range that are just as good or better? Possibly. They came out with a hippo xl r 12 I believe it was called and it is just as powerful as the Gordo if I'm not mistaken. It's not the original hippo and it only comes in a 12. I've had the summo sub as well. It was very nice. All the higher end massive audio products are built very well IMO.

I'm in NH man it's a hike lol. I just don't think it would be fair if you paid all the shipping since it might end up costing more than buying a new hippo. I'm not 100% sure of that but just sayin. On the other hand if I had to pay it I'd be taking a hit. Depending on cost of it, it could be possible to split the cost. Still might be too much
Realdude rec you're welcome bro. Hey that voltage stabilizer I bought isn't meant to go between you're battery and amp, or between alternator and battery vice versa. It's extremely tiny actually lol. It's meant to install before a eq/crossover to give it a 14.4 volt constant input voltage. Put anywhere from 6 - 16 v in, get 14.4 constant out. Not sure how much difference it will make if any but I might as well install it before my clarion for now. Until I buy a 3 or 4 way electronic crossover. I'm looking at one manufactured by McLaren audio for about 60 ish bucks. It seems to be very nice. Either that or I'll get a clarion crossover or Orion.
@@bigpun760sd I heard all bad know this is late. But this time last year wanted to get back to audio. I bought k9 13 built custom box and impressed everyone for wat it is. Just blew it today kind of wanted to make knew setup. It was ok for price didn't like getting real low. Which is why I finally blew it today...
sellers are selling these cheaper than massive because they want to get ride of them, probably bought a stock and they been sitting for a year or longer.. for that price I'd get a sundown, I'll probably continue to run sundown from now on.. I ran a few skar subs, but there quality control sucks
The hippo was priced well when I bought it but then the price got jacked way way up by like 300 bucks. It went from being 300 to costing 799 or some ridiculous price. That was in Amazon it was the opposite, the other sellers raised the price not lowered it. Now I am seeing them available for around anywhere from 280-350. Yeah though the massive audio website lists everything way more money than the distributors do. I'll sell my hippo for 275 ish. 250 at lowest. It's mint condition still. To be honest idk if I even want to get rid of it lol. It's one of the nicest subs I've seen in action.
Sundown is too pricey for what it is in my opinion although it is quality stuff. There is plenty of other good quality car audio stuff out there though for less chedda.
+BaSsAholiC I have a sundown x12 v2 d2 on a skar skv2.2500 at 1 ohm.. thing is a beast, it's 1500rms and I've been pushing at least 2500w rms cleanly to it and takes it very well.. skar sk amps are very good and we'll priced and the do over what there rated.. mine dynoed 2900w rms at just under 14v. nice Korean boards to, it was only 499 too
+BaSsAholiC I actually came from running a skar vxf 12d2.. I thought it was the shit.. it's was a nice sub, hit lows and got the highs.. I thought sundown was over priced too, but once you actually own one. u know you have a nice sub that gets low, and has a full 2 year warranty.. you get what u pay for, skar has OK subs to, but there quality control ducks and they rebox returns and sell them as new.. the vxf also could not handle the same skv2.2500 I use on my x12. both rated 1500rms but the x12 takes it very well, in fact it takes a lot just to get my clipping led to flash.. the vxf would make it flash easily when it hit real low.. I'll definitely be buying another x12 and run my 2500 @.5ohm.. I have dual 2/0 runs of ofc. I'll bet I can squeeze 3500 out of my skv2.2500 no problem. I ran it @ .7 ohm daily for a couple months no issues, didn't really get warm either.. I would buy another skv2.2500 no doubt about it, I've seen them ran at .25ohm for competition & .5 daily.. good amps and very affordable for what u get. it actually performs as well if not better then the sundown 3k..
@@tankdog03ify yeah man when I bought my hcca 15 I was torn between sundown zv5 and hcca and I picked Orion. I'm happy with my Orion amp for sure and the sub gets loud as fuck but I need to build a better enclosure for it to crush the lows the way I want. I can't go much lower than 29hz on a test tone burp. Music is a bit different though. I still think sundown is way way overpriced. I won't ever own sundown anything. Not because I'm broke(which I am lol) but because I know there is better out there at far better prices.
Realdude rec it really is mang. I don't see many people running massive audio for their beats. I mean I have seen some builds but for the most part idk why it's not more popular. Or at least the hippo or Gordo series.

To be honest I couldn't tell you. I've never broken in a woofer. I always just take it easy on them until I'm familiar with the capabilities. Then I go ham on it lol. Good rule to go by for me is, play it at moderate... ish, levels for at least the 1st 6-12 hours of use. Once it's been moving pretty good for that long... my guess is any sub SHOULD be all set. There is alot of talk that break in periods are a myth. I find myself in the middle on that topic.
I always just play them pretty much full tilt and never had problems. I’m not a big believer in break in periods. They just play better once the soft parts loosen up a little and the best way to “break them in” is to make them move lol
I agree with that 100% except I do take it a little easy at 1st. Only because you want the spider to loosen evenly all the way around. If you jump the sub out of the box too rapidly you could make your spider loose in one spot meanwhile the rest stays stiff. Essentially shortening xmax a bit and weakening it in 1 spot as opposed to spread out among the entire spider the way it should be. If that's making sense lol.

@@MrMadasscarlo well it's barely even broken in. I keep seeing it going for anywhere from 300-699. Obviously since it is used I'll have to discount it a little. 250 plus shipping or something along those lines. I also have a nice enclosure for it which is also almost new. I would sell them both for 350 plus shipping. If you were close enough for a pick up or to meet somewhere no shipping of course.

Mike Cote right on man. Yeah dude I made like half dozen even more statuses about it and kept sharing my shit and everything. everyone was just like fuck this guy lol. I hear you on the happy medium. Nobody wants bass overpowering the mids and highs. At least I know I don't. Generally when you add bass you gotta add mids and highs too . That why I have my 4channel amp on my mids and highs and the mono amp on my sub. Sometimes I actually have to turn the highs down because they hurt my ears. The bass... I can take loud bass all day. It's the high frequencies that really really pierce your ears. When I'm droppin a beat at like 30-35 hz and shaking everything around me I'm in heaven lol. Put some higher frequencies on blast and I'm like fml turn that down. Although what is too loud for me... is likely 10 times too loud for the average bear 😂
BaSsAholiC yea I also have a 4 channel for my door speakers and a mono for my 2 12's. It sounds alright but nothing crazy. I really like my new head unit. Got a pioneer 2330 nex with android auto
Massive21 hell yeah I'm definitely impressed with it. I can't believe nobody has bought it from me yet lol. Fair to say most people aren't into bass like some of us are. They are happy with a Wal-Mart special for a little bump. Not me, I need to shake the pavement lol.
