Hey Spiff! Yes, samsung sucks ass for everything but phones, and even then, the phones haven't been superb as of late. Sony is good for media, like TVs, and LG is just decent all around, but if you buy appliances, just ignore the brand label, because no matter what, what matters most is that the appliance survives, because that baby gotta last you years man.

As a scrapper who constantly get to tear apart washing machines and dryers. Samsungs are definitely the most scuffed on the motor/heating department. Meanwhile whirlpool, TIL Frigidaire, and others are fine.

@@psi_psi a good place to start if you have access to to any kind of hauling is to just go around town looking through trash. Look for wires and aluminum both fairly light but go for a good amount at a scrap yard. Having access to a bigger trailer and more tools makes bigger things much easier though. (Just some advice)

ok but pretty sure both that we've had in this state were TIL, and both would just eat my clothes, I've had so many things ruined bc it manages to put holes in pretty new things, Id rather slightly damp and in need of a second dry than ruined with holes (I say both, bc family is renting the machines, and since it's not rent to own or anything I kept begging to replace them rather than pay for ones that ruin my clothes. thankfully they listened, the new ones still occasionally does but not nearly as often and not as bad)

I can speak on their phones: I have a Galaxy 9S and it's been a bit of a tank for all of the getting-close-to-6 years that I've had it. I don't treat it rough (besides dropping it on a curb and breaking it's screen once. Repair guy had it fixed within 2 hrs) and RU-vid/Googling/email loads just as fast on it now as it did on day 1. Can't speak on their newer phones, but their older ones are good.

on an s8+ since near release, dropped it (on a curb as well) when I first got it and didn't have a case, shattered the screen. got it replaced with warranty and got a unicorn beetle case, hasn't broken since. It's funny too, it was back in high school and my dad was saying we should've gotten a case and screen protector even if it was temporary and I drop it right away... Either I've gotten lucky, or the screen is really good since I've dropped it face down a couple times and all it has to show is some scratching (though the glass backing has a small crack on the side). I've bricked it a couple times since the Snapdragon cpu isn't friendly to CFW, but I'm back on stable stock firmware and it's still going great other than Monster Hunter Now running kinda crappy. 2:19

My family got a Samsung washer and dryer about 5 years ago and the dryer is fine, but the washing machine sucks on many levels. The thing will get unbalanced in the spin cycle and then fill up with water in an attempt to "fix the problem", and this is all pretty quiet, so finally after it does this for maybe an hour it finally beeps at you that it can't fix it's own problems

Like it managed to fall out of my pocket getting out of my car onto concrete and was fine, slipped on stone steps the rare day my phone was in my back pocket, fully landed on it and got a nasty bruise, phone was totally fine. Story Time. When I worked at Lowe's (2018-2020), I usually worked the opening shift, which meant I would speak with most contractors. Every contractor would avoid Samsung appliances as much as possible. Many "smart" appliances ended up being ignored too, but not at the same rate. I even had one contractor that told me a story of a Samsung dishwasher he desperately tried to convince a customer not to get but they did, and he had to repair it several times over just a 2 month span -- not sure what "several" meant, but the contractor and customer had apparently gotten to a nickname basis with the frequency. The final straw -- after replacing enough pieces to become Theseus' dishwasher -- was when a proprietary part (wasn't told what) was going to cost more to get (shipping and all) than the whole price of the dishwasher at the time of purchase, not even including repairs. (Which does make sense when you consider how manufacture's get with proprietary parts. Looking at you too, Subaru.) The contractor convinced the guy to take an older dishwasher from the local scrap yard. They cleaned it out, did some "light maintenance" (again, idk), and it started working the moment they hooked it up with no problems. And, question, what advantage does a "smart" dishwasher give you over a normal one? Ease of use? Hell no. More eco-friendly? Again, no, more resources and materials pumped into a device that, when used properly (go watch technology connections), is already a pretty eco-friendly device. Remotely start it when in a hurry? Again, that would take more time vs just pressing a button on the device. The most they can offer is more in-depth control over the device for cycles, and even then, don't do that. The dishwasher has been common in the US home since the 1970's, and have been around since 1924. The mfs are 100yrs old. On top of that, what of other "smart" devices like washers, dryers, ovens, fridges, and microwaves? Sure a smart fridge might, and I stress might, have a camera-esk system built into the fridge to let you view what's in there incase you forgot something. But if you're using it to check for that, then it's admitting to the only advantage being you weren't prepared before you bought groceries, and it what about the pantry and cupboards? The longer I worked at Lowe's, and even after, the more I've grown to despise many "smart" appliances. Frequent returns for breaking, not pairing correctly with other devices (funnily enough same-brand setups seemed to break more than multi-brand setups), not being easy to use, and in many cases being very invasive. Truth was that it was costing us more to accept those returns on top of the ongoing and quite publicly known privacy concerns. I forget the brand, but the biggest was one of the cheaper-end security cam "24/7 recording" (which, sure you are bud) set ups where the videos were saved to a central database, viewable to anyone with access to the database, and you didn't have a choice on that matter, nor were you obviously told unless you read like halfway through the long ass user agreement. (Even then, it never said who or for what purpose it was for, and because of the wording, there were questions as to what you were actually allowing to let the company do with the videos.) The company's response was something akin to: "don't worry, only top men can see it" but never said who that entails or for what purpose. Keep in mind, that other companies did do similar acts, but the difference was that, in most cases: that information was given to you clearly in the instructions and time of set up, it was clear as to what was being done with the recordings and who could see them, and it was optional (but heavily recommended if you didn't have a home server) in many instances. Tldr; Samsung appliances are a joke and utter trash, and many "smart" devices are gimmicks. Don't waste your money on them. Smart bulbs, thermostats, power strips / APC UPS devices, and home security are the only viable ones in all reality. Everything else has mostly been solved without "smart" devices needed. The next biggest step in "smart home" technology should honestly be in the widespread adoption of smart breakers.

If you have a dryer that doesn't seem to dry, or a range that takes forever to heat up, or really any resistive heat appliance that just seems to... suck, it might be because you are in a building that uses three phase power. Not to bore you with the details of how three phase works*, but it is essentially a system that has three hot lines instead of two, and each one is 120v but only gives 208v instead of 240v line to line. This isn't too common in houses, but you see it quite a bit in large apartment complexes. The reason it sucks for this is simple: power output is proportionate to current flow and voltage. Resistive heating has a fixed resistance, so reduced voltage also means reduced current, which means greatly reduced wattage: a 12000w range won't give that on only 208 volts, but would (just doing direct calculations) only push around 9000w. There are some devices that are designed to work at both voltages, so if you can "fix" this by buying a product that is wholly compatible with 208 or 240v. *That said, if you'd like me to bore you with the details of how three phase works, feel free to ask. I recommend bringing a chair and about a half hour to kill lol.

It’s not just you spiff, my family has Samsung appliances like a fridge, microwave(well, we used to), dishwasher, washer and dryer, and oven. OH MY GOD THEY SUCK. The microwave actually stoped working and had to be replaced, the fridge is small, the shelves are broken, and they don’t even make the fridge anymore so we can’t replace the shelves(oh yeah and it leaks and occasionally the water goes offline for no reason). The dishwasher just sucks at its job overall, half the time we put the cleaning pod in it and it doesn’t even use the whole thing, half the dam pod is left over in the thing, and nothing is really cleaned, not to mention it barely cleans anyway. The washer and dryer though are the worst, the washer is ABSOLUTELY disgusting, but otherwise, doesn’t seem to be the worst, but still not good, but the dryer meanwhile, oh god. That thing has been fixed more times than I can count and it still barely does its job, sometimes we have to run it twice to get it to do its job, and it also has recently come loose and started making this unbearable squeaking noise as it runs, and it makes me want to throw it off the roof. Whatever you do, don’t by Samsung appliances, stick to brands like Kitchen aid or Frigidaire, or whirlpool, they are SOOOO much better than Samsung. Edit: forgot the oven, yeah it sucks. Edit 2: recently we have had an issue where whenever the washer is used, afterwards the area to put softener into get completely filled with water for some reason requiring we soak it up before we can put anything in there

Idk what brand dryer I have, but it hasn't been drying very well. I have to put my clothes in there (on medium heat) for around 3-ish hours for them to dry properly. Anything less and my clothes are damp.

Oh yeah, a few years ago some samsung home appliances were blowing up/going on fire. Similar to the samsung phones. Stay safe everyone.

Spiff idk if you've ever watched iCarly, but there was one episode where the group got stuck with a really shitty sponsor that also liked to self-destruct. They got out of the sponsor by taking all the negative things about it and presenting it as "positive" points --- "Wow, these things catch fire so often, you don't have to use a grill anymore!" etc. If Samsung ever comes to you with a sponsor offer, I that that's what you should do lol.

I try to tell my family about this all the time!! People want to praise Samsung for their “innovation” and features when their basic components are flawed from the beginning

You should make sure your dryer duct is clean. A clogged duct can cause heating issues and slower drying times. Not to mention, it's a giant fire hazard.

Appliance salesman at large retailer here. the first thing they told me when i started, Samsung has the worst appliances. refrigerators suck and all of their electronic components tend to have faulty wiring and ive heard of multiple fires being started. LG is a much better alternative for higher end appliances and so is GE

as someone who uses a samsung phone, they are just fine and i dont see any reason why apple users hate them, and also, i see why those things happened, and even without and of them, i can agree that samsung appliances are garbage

If I had a nickel for every RU-vidr that usually made content of a much different kind, dissing a horrible household appliance made by an otherwise respected company, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's hilarious that it happened twice. -Save for the unfortunate fact of big company names handing out shitty products to people that don't fulfil their functions at best, and cause disaster at worst, but hey, what can you do.-
