Quick test of my Mercedes W140 S600 using C4 STAR kit

​@@NoWheelDrive Does your C4 unit still working without problems?, Do you fit batteries on it when working? I have readed that chinese clones (as mine) don't work fine with batteries and some units last little time before breaking or non working.

@@Eduardocarrillomaya Yes, fortunately it does. I'm slowly working on another solution using third-party OBD2 adapter. Please tell if you're using C4 for a Benz equipped with 38-pin port like W140 or modern Benz? The problem is that solution I mentioned above can't be applied to cars with 38-pin ports. Also I've never thought C4 has batteries inside. I just hook it to either OBD2 (in CLS55) or to 38-pin port (W140) and it works fine. Once I had a software trouble and I couldn't connect to any of my cars using C4. It was some sort of communication issue. Every time I tried to press something like "F3" in order to connect to my car I got an error message like "Couldn't communicate with the car" or something like that. It was a year ago, thus I don't remember the exact error message. I had to restore my laptop. Fortunately when I got it I created an image of its HDD and it helped me a lot. If I didn't do that I would be stuck now and probably trying to reach Chinese seller to help me fix the issue. Please tell what are the symptoms in your case?

At this time im restoring an 1997 Vito Van W638/2 i bought this year from a man who wanted to restore it, but he suddenly had heart dissease and stopped his project. The seller noticed me the van had pneumatic suspension problems on rear axle, and gave me an entire kit of pneumatic suspensions and orginal air compressor. The ECU had stored the suspension error and system is not working, but it shows error permanently, due to this situation i recently bought my chinese C4 clone unit (trying to avoid the costs of Mercedes workshop), but i have not used it yet. For my excuse, I never used a C4 unit, my work is repairing home electronics but i have skills on auto mechanics, and i was looking for information to know how to use it before i tryied by myself (without breaking nothing, if i can) For my surprise after having my van several months without battery due to motor restoring work, ABS light comes on since new battery fitted in. And yes, my van has 48 Pin connector as yours, but in the seat base.

@@Eduardocarrillomaya Thank you for sharing this info. Actually, C4 is easy when it works. All you need is to connect it to 38-pin port on one end and connect to your lapto on another end. That's it. Then if everything is OK you should start Xentry app on your laptop and select the appropriate van model. And I guess then if it can communicate with your car it will either automatically launch HTTWin (like in my case with W140) or it will continue using Xentry. I know Mercedes isn't cheap, but another option is to find a local reputable Mercedes mechanic. Let's say you bring the your van and they can run diagnostics and tell what's going on and then you may replace the bad parts and if it error doesn't go away you'll have to repeat, I mean visiting mechanic. I currently plan to re-install the whole set of STAR applications on a new laptop. But I didn't even start this process yet...

Hi, I think the won't be any difference if you hook C3, C4 or C5. It's just the type of multiplexor. The software on the laptop is the same. I bet it will be HHT-Win application regardless of the multiplexor and other software installed on the laptop.

Hi! It's a good question! First of all I really don't know about programming using STAR Kit. I know people do wonderful things with it. The kit itself is a copy of genuine Mercedes kit. Technically it should allow you to diagnose issues and reprogram something. If I were you I'd want to make sure the kit you want to buy has no software issues, because sometimes they do have issues. Then make sure its software is up-to-date, because if it's 2010 then your car may be not yet supported. I suggest to get a newest version, because your car seems to be 2018+. Then make sure you know how to use it to reprogram your interface. To buy a right kit is one thing, but to be able to use it is another challenge. And then it's still a gamble. Idk how much they want for it, but ask them if W177 is supported and what is the version of software. Also I would clone the hard drive before using it. In my case my kit at some point started to glitch and I had to restore it from a backup copy that I made after I received my kit. PS: you may also want to find someone in your area where you live who has this kit and ask them to reprogram your car's interface. It may save you some money since you may not need to buy it. Unfortunately, I have no idea since this is my first and only kit. I read some rumors and stories that "Chinese kits may become a paper weight and you have to pay them to re-activate or fix software" but Idk. Maybe those rumors are true or maybe they were created by other sellers. I don't know. So far it works. I guess it may have some expiration date set in some software but we'll see when I get there. I was trying to locate HHTWIN app so I could run it individually but I couldn't find it yet and as you see I have to launch different software to get to HTTWIN. PS: HTTWIN is the app which is used for diagnostic of older Benzes like my W140. For newer ones you most likely don't have to use it. I would also suggest to check Benzworld forums for more info because many ppl already got their kits from various sellers. Just search for this thread in Google: "Got My MB STAR C4 Diagnostic Tool Today!"
