Kind of reminds me of finger painting . . . . oh so much to learn but you have a clear way of explaining how fun it is to just play and experiment. Thank you.

I definitely need to start looking at my colors more closely. Thank you for expanding my color library.

Thank you Dianne for explaining that puzzle. I spent hours yesterday trying to grey the side of a building but today, I WILL succeed.

What a good common sense lesson!!! Thank you Dianne. you have me playing with compliments and my 2 yellow tubes and purple made by my red and blue tubes... should I check on blue and red with or without white ( i do not have purple tube yet), or both?? (any trick I should know?) Thank you again.

Helga, mixing for purple is perfectly fine. When mixing for a neutral, the only reason we add white is to see the results. That's necessary only when the colors are too dark to read.

With complementary colors we are assuming that they travel through the color space in straight lines. This is almost never the case, thus dioxyzine violet and primary yellow do not pass through the neutral centre of the color wheel. Due to the pigment properties these pathways across the color wheel will curve either inward or outward. The saturation curves reveal interesting patterns. The Green, orange, violet gamut will curve inwards, the yellow, cyan, magenta gamut will curve outwards. It may sound complicated at first, but once one sees the curves then color mixing becomes more predictable.

Ken, thank you for this scientific analysis. The physical characteristics of color's behavior is one thing, but practical experience working with the pigments is another. When interpreting our observations, we're depend upon our perception and not upon theory.

I am surprised that Ultramarin blue would make the yellowish neutral turns into gray ;I was told that ultramarine contains therefore were a warm blue and in this case it would not help to cool the mix violet-yellow.But that assumption was not right, you got a real gray with it without using other blue like cobalt etc.Thank you very much!

A lot of folks call ultramarine a warm blue, probably because it leans towards violet, but to my sensibility (compared to thalo blue that leans towards green, it is a cool blue. As they say, the proof is in the pudding. It's ability to neutralize oranges is enough proof for me.

Thanks a lot dear Dianne. I was thinking you will continue the previous qt. however I have a problem that might be related to my eyes, that is I always see the true neutrals even printed ones leaning toward a warm muted earth green. That's sad, any workarounds? however thanks again.

Mosio, Have you had your eyes checked to see if there's a physical explanation for this? Cateracks can cause color distortions. I'd begin there.

Dear Dianne thanks for your kind care and attention. Yes I already did that there wasn't any problems detected. they told me it's kinda natural and more or less common between people. But it's still bugging me. Another thing I noticed is that you always wear white clothing is that your personal preference? Cuz I see that even reflected light from my shirt say a blue one has much impact on colors while I am mixing.
