With so many questions about painting grasses, artist/art teacher Dianne Mize explains what to look for and what techniques to use to paint a variety of grasses. www.diannemize.com
Where else on RU-vid can you get a timely grass joke followed by an expert demonstration of value and texture gradation including the insight that the foreground darks in a field represent the depth of visible shadow? What a channel!
Multiple lessons in one video here. Looks like the big step up to becoming a painter is starting to see in values rather than objects, but it's not an easy transition for weekend painters like me. Thanks for another great video! This one will be a hit.
Beutiful I am grateful for your input and the internet for providing me with videos like this! Thanks a lot!! You are an amazing teacher, you speak in diamonds
Great tutorial and easy to understand, I’ve only been using paint for just over a year and I’m newer to blending and stuff, working on a dinosaur piece with grass below and in distance so this is very helpful
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction thank you. Would you be able to do a video on how to do a winding river that narrows into distance at an angle (from left to right of canvas for example) . Looking forwards to learning more :)
Have you done a book on how to paint. out of all the art videos iv watched on RU-vid you are the only one that really teaches you how to do this stuff.
AMAZING! The logic, the principle of the idea, and not just mimicking. Te si tanto brava me cunplimenti ła siora ła ze senplisemente incredìbiłe! (just saying how incredible the lesson was in my Venetian language)
This is great, thankyou! Do you have a tip that deals with mixing for these grass green colors? Is there a separate one for this? Also one for hay/wheat field tip too? Thanks :)
I rarely add anything to the paints to change the consistency. These are straight out of the tube. I use only brands that have the consistency I want without adding any medium -- mostly the Gamblin and Rembrandt brands.
Thank you so much as usual you cleared everything very easily. I like your videos your way of talking. Kindly tell me if we are planning a crop of something then what type of colour changing will happen
How do I interpret light and shadow hitting the surface of the water and light and shadow underwater, on the bottom of a creek bed, and reflections at the same time? It is complicated.
Not really. Look at it, not as what it is, but it's visual components, i.e., color, value and movement. Things get difficult when we sent the wrong messages to our brains, but when we switch our attention to the visual components that are causing us to see it as we do, we have a better idea of how to express it.
Excellent tutorial Ms. Mize - just like all the others! Question: what type of green are you using? Is it viridian? terre verte? sap green? etc. Or did you mix it? I apologize for my ignorance. Thanks a bunch! : )
That particular green is a mix of Rembrandt Viridian and Rembrandt Transparent Oxide Red. Those two tube colors can yield a nice range of greens by changing the proportions of TOR added to the Viridian. Note that other Viridians are not dark and transparent enough to make this work.
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction Thank you very much Ms. Mize - I will try it today. Do you have any videos on how you arrange your paint so neatly? Thank you again!!! : )
Whether you go lighter to darker or darker to lighter depends the location of the light source, its strength, and where you are located in relation to the light source.
No water. Oil and water don't mix. An good quality hog bristle fan should work great. If you load it sparsely with paint, begin the stroke on the brushes tip, give it a slight tug and flip it upwards, it will work. It works best on a damped surface.
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction oh. I am using no idea which fanbrush but it surely isnt brisk. And i paimt with acrylics. Thanks for clarifying, ill figure it out! :)
Trying to get out of my comfort zone with a painting I’m making for someone. Part of that is using bright colours and painting grass instead of snow or rocks for once.
Thanks so well explained..you bring calmness to your painting classes. Dianne if the sky is seen beyond the horizon will the values of the sky be still higher?
It depends upon the weather, time of day, how bright the sun is shining on the distant landscape or whether there is overcast. Use a value finder and do some research by holding the value finder at arms length and comparing what you see with the values on the finder.
Re-train your mind! Without the color, shape, texture, etc, you would see nothing, so if you train your mind to direct your eyes towards those things rather than the image, you will gain the freedom to paint anything you see.
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction - Thank you for your reply. I have started just looking at shapes, color, hues and density of the things I paint now using your method. It is helping and I greatly appreciate your videos with a wealth of information.
There are zillions of wildflowers found in many places in the world. Some are in fields, some in woods, some just pop up in lawns. Do you have a particular wildflower or a category of wildflowers that interests you?
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction Actually yeah, My mom is really missing her home in Georgia. when she daydreams about Georgia she mentions papa's old, beach blue rusted truck covered in weeds sitting in a field of wildflowers there are fuzzy white wishing flowers and little yellow flowers but just a few purple not too many and giant wild sunflowers growing out the hood of the truck she says. it just makes her whole face light up with a smile when she talks about it. Iv have been trying to paint a picture of this but keep running into problems. ........sorry for the rant to answer your question a field of wildflowers you might find in Georgia. just an idea no pressure (=
