As we discover from this subscriber's question, planes are everywhere if you just look for them. Artist/art teacher Dianne Mize shows where they are and how to use them.
P.s. Diane's full length videos are great and super affordable compared to other art instruction websites. Following her series on values made a night and day difference in my paintings (har har har), I totally recommend anyone to download a series and follow along at home.
Hi Dianne, I’ve always been drawn to paintings that have great planes and wondered how they figured them out. This lesson really helped me figure out where to start and how to see . As always I truly appreciate what you do. Thank you so much. Julie 🥰
Ma'am, could you please make a quick tip on tonality and how to balance tones in a painting. A color can be described in terms of hue, intensity and temperature. Where does tone stand with respect to these aspects of a color?
Thanks for this request. Tone is the same as value. We balance it, in realistic painting, by observing the construction of light and shadow. I'll put your request on our schedule.
Diane, when I tried applying this technique, it was one of the biggest tips I've ever gotten with drawing. It DRAMATICALLY changed the quality of my drawings!!! Thank you so much for your help !!! I can't hardly wait to apply this to my paintings !!! Thank you thank you thank you !!!!
Oh wow! Thank you. Your concise explanation made planes click for me. I've seen other videos that mention planes before, but it didn't quite register. As they didn't explain very well what a powerful simplifying tool planes are.
This is so helpful Dianne!😍 thank you so much for your easy & effective explanation!👍 You are the best!🙂 thank you for sharing your experience with us!🙂 take care and stay safe 💐
I bought your freedom book. Can't wait to read it. I've always wanted to learn to draw. I'm 44 and just beginning. But if I don't do it now, I never will.
This excellent presentation explains a whole lot, Dianne - wow, so helpful to be able to depict some of the muscular structure - I have to say I was completely in the dark - no pun intended. Thanks to you and to whoever asked the question!!
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction Yes, this one really did resonate. I drew so much the rest of the day using this concept, like drawing my hand - it helped so much to put meat on the bones! LOL It's going to be so helpful too, in helping with directional brushstrokes. This QT was a beauty - but then they all are!
Thanks for this great video! Would you be able to do a quick tip about how to take and how to use photos as reference? When I am painting from life I often take a photo for reference later, but the camera never sees what I see!! Why is this? Thank you!
I’km interested in the sphere you use in this demo. Is the local color the yellow I see in the far right section, or is it the light purple? Is there a terminator line or does the color just fade into shadow?
That could be a monitor discrepancy. One of my biggest complaints is that monitors on various devices are not consistent. This particular sphere is computer produced and really doesn't show accurately the effects of light & shadow.
A very complicated way to say the earth is flat and stationary, we are NOT! flying and spinning! People lie and over complicate things to dupe idiots, pick your poison!! Peace and blessings for anyone with a brain.
