Wow! An actual TEACHER on RU-vid? Amazing! So tired of these "Look at me!" speed paint videos disguised as tutorials and how to's. It's nice to see someone who knows what they are doing actually teaching people how to paint.
Wait, others struggle with those vids too?!?! I thought it was me!!! I've been struggling & struggling, watching & painting dozens & dozens of beginner/easy vids from so many RU-vid artists who seem so much more interested in selling their merchandise (ie brushes, t shirts) than helping anyone learn. They imply/infer that by buying their exclusive line of ie brushes it'll magically transform you into a painting pro. They may be great brushes but there are no magic shortcuts. After dozens & dozend of painting to these vids with horrible results. I decided, just today, to box-up ALL my paints/supplies because I felt so artistically defeated and empty of any talent. Now that I've seen this video I'm pulling everything back and will begin anew watching closely these exceptional lessons. Thank you!!!
In 1969 I began studying at Massachusetts College of Art. I thought we would get this kind of instruction on materials and tools, but was bitterly disappointed. Instead, the college force-fed their students a diet of abstract expressionism. Thank you for this wonderful training.
William, I got the same diet from UGA back in the mid-60's. It did give me understanding of what the abstract expressionists were doing, but I had to go elsewhere to get the technical information I needed.
@@gypsysnickerdoodle4354 An idiotic comment. Older people has years of experience that you can't get in a hurry or in a single year., This artist can teach you a thing or two, that's for sure.
It's So refreshing and a blessing that u take the time to show technics of painting and of how it's really done without being greedy.. like some painters are... I've been looking for someone like u... U r a blessing and a special person and have a great personality with lots of patients... Have a great night 🌙 please keep showing us more👏..love u💖
Thank you Diane. I’ve watched this video three times just to remind me of the principals that your valued insight could have a huge impact on our paintings. Again I’d like to thank you.
Thank you Diane! Years ago I attended (and graduated from) art college and had few teachers who gave practical materials and tools advice like this. They were more interested in forcing abstract expressionism on us than giving us the skills we paid for. You are a Godsend.
Seriously Dianne, it couldn't be more true. And you're one of the most soothing & most likeable people doing this on RU-vid.💖@@IntheStudioArtInstruction
I love your quiet and informative way that you teach. Very often, I will watch an episode and file away the key information , and then watch it again as I prepare to paint. Thank you. Cordially, Mary
Finally a video that makes sence. I learned years ago, and now teach, that we need to understand the tools and materials we use. Not so much the pros & cons, but rather capabilities and limitation then using that info to our advantage to create the desired effects. I tell my students use common sense, follow safety precautions and explore. Experiment and learn what your tools can do for you in this adventure of art.
WhittleDude, I am in total agreement. I always equate painting skills with craftsman's skills: it works best when you know what your tools and materials will do and when you know how to guide their results.
I love your extremely helpful video! I am a self taught artist and I never realized that this brush was so versatile. You have a wonderful, direct and warm way of communicating with your audience. I am looking forward to learning more from other videos of your. I am especially interested in brush techniques and different kinds of brush strokes and ways of holding and handling the brush. Thank you so much!!
Not quite true my art teacher hated anime so when I told him I watched anime he yelled at me and I got a detention for liking anime, my parents called school because they were confused so yeah he got fired (they thought the detention was for something else)
Aww she reminds me pf Bob Ross! How nice! And just what I needed. I just started painting and its really hard to teach yourself when artists dont take the time to explain how they create effects, so thank you so much for this video!!
It's like any other skill. We can learn by trial and error, but it surely does make it easier when someone who knows the skills shows them to you. Enjoy your journey.
Thank you, very well explained, and helpful techniques. I thought perhaps the last part where you showed the imprint the fan brush made when using the whole rounded shape would be good for giving the impression of- tree tops in the distance. 😃
Isn't it amazing, Rhonda, how things we do with a brush can open up possibilities of how we can use those strokes to translate various images. Good observation!
I love this lady!!!!!! I'm a beginner artist and I have just gotten myself a fan brush and I knew it would of been used for effect purposes because of the shape of it but i had no idea on how it's used. I'm so glad I came across this lady. Thank you so much for having a RU-vid chanel! You're excellent at teaching
I had never thought of that. And in this day and age I really don't use the telephone book but they still get delivered to us as it's part of our phone service. But I end up throwing it in the recycle bin. So it does get recycled but I always thinks it's a waste. So I think I will use the next one in the manner that you're suggesting. I'm sure it will become very handy.
Thank you so much. I have never used my fan brush, because I really didn't know how to use it properly. This has opened my eyes to a new possibilities :)
Yes because mostly we don't need to see the lady speaking - it's what she says that matters, and that can be done more as voiceover while giving us close-ups of what's on the canvas. Still, a useful video.
Hi Dianne, thank you very much for your video. I am not in the Painting Business, I just painted 2 abstract canvas and nothing else. I love the way that you teach. Very calm and so many details. You are very cute!!
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction I know, I know...I'm sorry...I just found it funny. lol Thank you for your time and effort in making the video though. I appreciate it...Even if I had to squint a lot. :P
@@indigoh2824 Not entitled. Just trying to duplicate what was being taught. Hard to do when you can't see enough detail to know what its supposed to look like.
Great teacher, would love to see some of your art, I love to paint, it’s so relaxing, I just get lost in and worry free for. a shout time. Thanks for sharing. God Bless
