A major design decision of the new Oceanis line (from the 30.1 to the 51.1) is to maximize the size of the cockpit and ensure an unobstructed access to the swim platform. Once the swim platform is lowered, and the aft seats raised, there is nothing in the way of enjoying the swim platform (including a backstay to dance around). If you want to increase your downwind speed, then get a Code 0 for downwind sailing instead of relying on wing-on-wing.

I think the exterior looks awesome; that pearl grey really stands out, and the use of low-friction rings means there are no genoa car tracks on the deck. The lines are sleek outside for sure; she looks absolutely beautiful. Compare the interior with any other 35-foot boat you like. Incredible use of space, good quality hardware... I think it is wrong to call this "Ikea look", if by that you mean cheap. Having seen the 30.1 (the smaller version of the 34.1) up close, I can tell you that the furniture and fittings are very high quality.

And 'no' this isn't the future of sailboats, it's just a clumsy attempt at getting noticed, dreamt up by the marketing department. So okay, I'll tone down the Ikea criticism because what I really meant to say is that it's hideous. Yep, hideous is about right.

It sure did. I don’t want teak, but plywood is a bit of a low bar. I’d like to see a nice composite material made to look like a varnished teak, without the maintenance.

Goes well to the Chinese and American lifestyle.
