Same here. I'm actually going to say here that I picked up Weezer's Black Album this past week, and while I don't think it's a great album, it's fine to me. Definitely an easier album to listen to than _Mania_ is in my opinion.
I am a huge Fall Out Boy fan and defender. I love Folie, Infinity, Cork Tree, Pax AM Days. Hell, I even like Save Rock and Roll and like a lot of songs on AB/AP. When critics and such always shit on them I always defend them. FoB's one of my favorites, for sure. And even I cannot fucking defend the garbage that is this fucking album except for saying Wilson (Expensive Mistakes) is okay and Last of the Real Ones is pretty good. When a HUGE defender of your work that's let you get away with tons of shit cant even tolerate your album, you know something's horribly horribly wrong.
Scsigs Agreed. I go back to a few of the songs from Folie regularly, but not nearly as many as the previous two albums, let alone their early discography (Pretty In Punk is CRIMINALLY underrated)
Scsigs I just meant it's good, but in comparison to the albums before, you could really tell they wwre starting to run low on inspiration. I think Folie would've been a phenomenal note to end the career on. It would be similar to how MCR ended on Danger Days. Not their best album, but still having that flare that made the band so special to begin with.
It was a song from FOB on an album they recorded before Take This To Your Grave. Unfortunately they didn’t like the production of the album and didn’t want it released, but whoever was sitting on it let it out into the world after they released Under the Cork Tree. So it is in a kind of grey zone as being their first album while also simultaneously not being their first.
Folie à Deux is actually something worth bringing up when talking about Fall Out Boy because while I still personally found it a disappointment and definitely an attempt at going pop to retain relevance, there were enough killer songs on it to show that a pop incarnation of FoB could work. "America's Suitehearts", "She's My Winona", "Coffees For Closers", "The (Shipped) Gold Standard", "What a Catch Donnie", "27"... fuck, Folie à Deux could have been a solid 4 out of 5 if the less than stellar songs had been fixed or replaced.
This is the sole reason why I think he’s the greatest critic on the internet. He’s not afraid and doesn't pull his punches, he gives smart and honest commentary and he’s not afraid to piss off as much people as possible.
i got big into this band when i was 12-13 (around the time they were starting to blow up) i've checked in here and there but lost interest around folie a deux, i checked this album out of morbid curiosity and it's a big old bag of nope

I honestly like srar and scattered songs on ab/ap,but if folie a deux and believers never die were fall out boy's last works i'd honestly be much happier

I kinda see a patern similiar to Weezer, when it comes to their discography. Like Weezer they have 4 albums that, have 2 classics and 2 good albums in general in the beginning of their career. Then came Save Rock And Roll, which pissed many people off, but many people liked it too (more mainstream you could say), just like Make Believe. Then they made a pretty lop-sided album with American Beauty/American Psycho, which has a similiar problem to the Red Album. And now they made their Raditude with Mania. Don't take this theory too seriously, just a random thought I had xD I can totally see that this theory does not line up (I'm not really that much of a Fall Out Boy guy), so chill okay xD
That means the next album is gonna be forgettable and sound unfinished even though it may have a few good songs. Then they'll release 2 awesome near-classic albums and the release a release another album slightly better than Mania but still pretty bad.
Pax AM days was sweet, they did a whole set of old school punk rock jams - punkier than TTTYG even. Indinity on High is my fav record from them! Rip FOB
I loved fall out boy, but this album is just painful. It’s sad to see the same guys who made two solid albums (in my opinion) after their comeback, release...this.
Man I love Andy and Joe, even when I was a big Fall Out Boy fan everyone I interacted with only ever spoke about Pete and Patrick. Even if it was only because they were 12 yr old girls with crushes on the 'main 2', they just completely ignored them! Really a shame, I don't plan on giving this a listen but I at least hope the band can split off and try and be better seperately, even if people are only ever gonna refer to them as 'the Fall Out Boy _____'.

"Young and Menace" is a dreadful, annoying mess that sounds like a Gundam being violated by a Timber Wolf, "Champion" is generic "I'm the greatest!" songwriting set behind dubstep, "Stay Frosty Royal Milk Tea" is a rancid club jam where the words "Are you smellin' that shit?" become your worst nightmare, "HOLD ME OR DON'T" is a track so mysoginistic, creepy and wrong that I'm half-surprised Lisbeth Salander from the Millennium books hasn't hunted down the guy who wrote it, as well as music from Strongbad's worst dreams backing it up, "Church" is a freaky hybrid of "Take Me to Church" and "Heathens", and then there's "Sunshine Riptide". That is all. So, in short, This Album *SUUUUUUCKS!!!!*
Their next album is called "So Much for Stardust". What a fitting name for a band that should've ended long ago, similar to shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy.
PACING! That's the word I was looking for in my review. They forgot how to do it. Wayyy too often on this album I felt like they tried to cram way too many lyrics into one part of the song. Over and over and over and over.... and the pacing feels way off. But that's just one of many faults it has. I wish it was just a flat out bad album in some regards, because this "meh... this song's... fine... I guess... oh that's stuck in my head now, is it? fine.... eh that one's nice... oh they're going with that?... fine..." is just.... disappointing. And I find myself wondering: is this even what Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley WANT to do? They basically always look bored, and kinda out of place... eh. I am glad there are people finding joy from this but I'm disappointed.
PS. I'ma @ you about Folie a deux now: You do you! I've never really clicked with that album and I consider myself a fan. Heck I liked Save Rock and Roll. But I don't understand the love for FAD, it always sounded like more of the same to me. Now I'm gonna seek shelter. WELP.
As a self-confessed Fall Out Boy fan (Folie is their best record, fight me bro lol), yeah i was mostly bored by this album. There's some good(-ish) songs even they are just kinda ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Young & Menace is still garbage but im not really outraged just mostly confused. Their media campaign teasing this album was way more interesting than the actual record and that's really fucking sad. I know people have a lot of opinions about post-hiatus FOB in general, but i do think they have more to offer than this. I genuinely liked Save Rock n Roll, but i now notice a lot of things that have gotten worse over the years very much started there. I don't necessarily agree with you in calling for them to break up but if they keep heading this direction, they are seriously gonna lose me *sigh*

I love how Fall Out Boy somehow managed to sell fewer copies of Young and Menace than Paramore and Panic at the Disco’s lead singles despite the blatant sellout attempt. I’ve heard that Fall Out Boy has one of the most rabid fanbases out there, but even they couldn’t be assed to throw money at that song.

I enjoy the album myself but agree Young and Menace is cringe along with Burna boy on Sun Shine Riptide. But you don't enjoy Folie a Deux? Id argue it's the best of there first 4 albums. Now that's something you should re-listen to.

I don't know if it's just me, but I think Fallout Boy is the Walmart version of Panic! At The Disco. I don't know man, Fallout Boy is just boring, man. Also Patrick Stump did make a solo album called Soul Punk, it was ok I guess.

Yeah, I feel like Fall Out Boy kinda went downhill after American Beauty/Psycho. I mean, for all the shit given to songs such as My Songs Know What You Did in The Dark (Light 'Em Up) and Immortals, at least they're catchy. I honestly found _nothing_ memorable about this album.
I distinctly remember people kept defending Young & Menace, saying "it's just ONE different song. You can say the album is bad just because of one song" and "They are just experimenting new types of music, they don't to stay rock forever." Well...look where we are now.
PAX AM Days was honestly the only good thing they did when they got back together. I actually listened to Mania.......... the new Senses Fail and Reggie and the Full Effect got the taste of that outa my mouth thank god but wow Mania.... crash I’m right there with ya man this album SUCKED
