I've sideways considered myself lucky, and this day was no exception! Not only was I able to crash land with minimal damage and no injury, but I had the gopro running atop my empty noggin!
Come along for a short ride to nowhere. As always thanks for watching, and please like ans subscribe!

wow, two takeoff engine out landings in 4 months with recoveries caught on film to edify everyone, good job.

Many people overestimate the glide ration of ultralights. They really slow down when the engine quits, so it's essential to keep a nearby landing site in view. Nice job.

Yup, its all about keeping up airspeed! I have practiced a lot for engine out landings so I was well prepared for this inevitability.
@vg23air

totally dependent on the model, these happen to be about one of the worst.
@kidkhaos6427
@kidkhaos6427 Год назад
Yeah it is probably the worst glide ratio of any I have flown save for a B1-RD.

Do pilots compensate farmers when they thrash their crop? offer to? nice surprise landing btw. emergency bean cushion
@eshannonfly
@eshannonfly Год назад
Been there done that in an Aerolite! Except the beans I landed in were about 3' tall and so thick you could barely walk in them, fortunately the plane and beans belonged to the farmer who I was test flying it for. lol Good job landing with minimal damage.

These wer almost waist high. These beans were bot quite 3 feet, about thigh high, but they still brought me to a fairly abrupt haulr.

Needs the new Thump-Air engine 🤩

That would be the plan if it were an easy direct swap. Did now a rebuild is cheap for the club to get back in the air.

I just bought the same bird. What size trailer would I need to transport WITH the tail still on?
@kidkhaos6427
@kidkhaos6427 9 месяцев назад
I don't understand how you plan to leave the tail on since it attaches to the wings. You are probably creating more work trying to leave it on than it takes to disassemble it.

I'm not familiar with the term cold seizure. What does that mean and is it a common occurrence with ultralights?

Hey what size and pitch prop are you guy's using there?
@kidkhaos6427
@kidkhaos6427 11 месяцев назад
I don't remember the pitch, but its a 66 inch prop and that airplane rips.

What was your approximate altitude when the engine quit?
@kidkhaos6427
@kidkhaos6427 Год назад
I would guess around 500 feet AGL or less. I rarely look at the altimeter unless I'm avoiding controlled airspace.

@@kidkhaos6427 you can see it before you take off 00:11 says negative 60 feet and and the needle is exactly at 3 oclock at 01:38
@vg23air
@vg23air Год назад
@@kidkhaos6427 it was negative 60 on the takeoff and the needle is at 3 oclock when the engine cuts out. About 360 feet, with a 540 fpm sink rate which is closer to a 2 place MXL and not the single place MXL. You are proficient enough that you need to start climbing to 2,500 AGL and just cut the engine off and leave it off and dead stick to the strip, over and over. Thats how I learned and then these things are not an issue, the brown area was in the range of the plane. You should also be aware of any prevailing ground winds and realize that you need to immediately factor that in asap when you setup your next emergency descent, you dont want a cross or tail wind if you can set it up to prevent it, better to start setting it up on engine out and not on the way down or close to landing.

Noted and constructive criticisms, but I do what I do. If I spent another minute trying to make this any better I'd be robbing time from plenty of other responsibilities. Maybe one day I'll graduate to a multiple person crew over here and upgrade my production quality. Until that day comes, you just get a hick wirh a gopro strapped to his head 😆
