I was bothered by hearing the constant annoying loud noise that would drone on and on that would get on my nerves . even the neighbors began complaining because of the racket , and invented a sound reduction unit, it fits right over my wife's mouth.

Over time the insulation has gotten a bit loose and some sections do fall out of place. I would suppose a quality contact adhesive would work. Something like chicken wire could also be secured over the insulation to keep it in place.

@ Greg Decarolis I used a neodymium magnet. But the fact that my gen. is a pull start securing the gen. frame to the floor of the housing with metal straps or brackets or something would be a good idea also. That way everything stays in place and you wouldn't need the magnet.

Nice build. I haven't built mine yet but i was planning to use fsk foil faced rotten cotton and fsk foil tape then cover that with Homasote. not sure if humidity would cause it to mold. I'm thinking of building mine out of steel studs and PVC board

@Son of Liberty- Since it wasn't started for a while I gave it 3 light pulls just to get the internal parts lubricated. Then hard pulls to actually start the motor. On another note the generator setup and N.G conversion was new at that time and I was giving it 5 seconds of priming. That was too much. Since then I've reduced that to 2 seconds priming and it starts easier. You may not think it but you can "flood" the engine with N.G. just as you can flood an engine with gasoline.

@Donavan F I'm not sure of the hours run time between oil changes. It was in the manual but I forgot exactly what it was now. We had a blackout for 5 days and I changed the oil every 48 hrs of run time. I used reg, oil but I should research the synthetic oil a bit more. I went with what the mfg. suggested to use.

I just checked with Generac and the suggested oil is straight 30w above 40 F and 10w30 below 40F. Change oil every 200 hrs. of run of time after the initial 8 hr. break in period.

Thanks. I'm really not sure about the magnet losing it's magnetism b-c the generator set up has stayed in the same configuration since first installed. BTW- just to mention, it seems Suncast has stopped making that model of storage container so you may need to do something else about the housing.

Thanks. Both my water heater and house heat run on natural gas so I can't say from personal experience about electric water heat, which I'm guessing you are referring to. If that's the case then check the tag on your w.h. for wattage. With a 5500 watt gen. I wouldn't go over 4500 watts just to be safe. ( according to Google a 40 gal. elec. water heater uses about 4500 5500 watts). So that's cutting it close.

That's my next question on where in the world are person finding those caps to put the magnet on that holds to the exhaust? I've got a similar situation and the same exhaust, but a different idea to go out the shed and using a square piece of concrete board on both sides so no plastic is near or touching any plastic!!

But he is not running gas and there should be no reaction with propane.

They say with propane no galvanized fittings. brass is okay and black iron. I don't like black Iron because it rusts. I would rather use brass and propane. The government in a state of emergency or natural disaster they feel is bad. like a flood tornado hurricane or anything else they can cut the natural gas off, water and electricity. And then everyone with generators will be in a panic that rely on natural gas. A few years ago I saw the government declare a state of emergency in a area with a light dusting of snow it wasn't even icy. It was ridiculous maybe the local government did that to get some money and funding from the big government. And politicians can take this money where the promise to repay it and never repay it like usual. If it was me I would keep a natural gas line unhooked from my generator. Check out the stories of homes with a rare occurrence of high pressure natural gas that went past the regulator and filled up the homes with natural gas and exploded. Several homes exploded and caught on fire in different areas before. It's a pretty rare occurrence but it has happened it's better to be safe than sorry. And this is very dangerous if this happens there will be no homes left in some cases.

@@dirtydon8661 ... a disaster hasn't ever happened here in my lifetime, but there's more & more power outages every year. We had 2 separate outages go 2 days each last summer, & they've already warned us there's going to be outages again this summer. Heck if I'm going to lose a big freezer & fridge full of food. I looked for that 4" cap also at home depot and they didn't have any such thing and said they never did or he had never seen one? I'm want to exhaust mine in a similar fashion! I wanted to see if a 12" × 12" would be overkill or would it be to big? I plan on making a backing to make it stronger to hold so the weight of either 10×10 or 12 × 12 exhaust attic fan should hold fine..What's your thoughts? I live in South East Louisiana and it's hot and humid as hell and that's another reason why I was thinking of using a 12"× 12" fan

Glad it helped. No, no problems so far. If you add the tri-fuel conversion kit be sure to break it in using Gasoline. Than switch over to the Lp. When you first convert it, the LP regulator will need to be adjusted. Once you have it tuned in there is a lock nut to keep that setting adjustment. After that it's just a matter of priming the carb. with lp at start up. There is a push button on the reg. that allows free flow LP into the carb.. For mine I hold it in and count to about 4 and than pull.

Also you said that the exhaust got the plastic a little to warm what I am going to use is a wood pellet stove through the wall thimble double pipe and insulated Lowe's has them for around 50 bucks this may help someone else. Again Thanks

Sure you can still use gasoline. I only removed the gas tank b-c of increased air flow. It's a US Carburation tri fuel kit. Gasoline, N.G, and propane will all work. I did a quick RU-vid vid. on the tri fuel kit too .

I just looked and it seems that exact model may be discontinued by Suncast.

I ran the generator for 5 days straight and the only effect the heat had was around the engine exhaust (dryer vent). The plastic got a little warped in one spot so I used a larger piece of metal panning in that high heat area to carry the vent. I didn't think that was too bad though considering the continuous length of time it ran. Originally there was only about 1/2 in clearance where the metal exhaust exits through the plastic wall. That was just too close. The fan itself moves a LOT of air so fresh is always coming through the box as the hot is being blown out. So the only small problem was that one hot spot at the exhaust location.

Thanks. Not to wear out my welcome but I have a couple more questions. Did you just use friction to hold the insulation or some kind of adhesive. If so, what kind? Also, what fan did you use and where did you get it?

Yea, I used spray adhesive to tac it on. I still want to add galvanized metal duct panning to the interior walls.

The fan is from Amazon. 10 in.w/louver. I think I paid about $150. The 1/2 in gas line, 10-3 w/ground wire, outside 30a wall box, watt meter, 12' 30a, line from gen. to house connection all came from Amazon.

4" dryer vent is more then enough as an exhaust for the muffler. Most auto exhaust tail pipes are only 1 1/2 in. so 4 in. it's more then plenty. Thanks for asking

@Thomas Smith Thanks for bringing up this most important issue. I addressed this near the end of the video @11:25. I used a certified disconnect (lock out) between the main "In" breaker and the generator feed breaker so there is no chance of power being feed back into the lines when the generator feed breaker is in the "on" position..Long story short you can have either the generator feed breaker on or the utility "main" on but never both at the same time.

It was actually $1500 total. I saved at least $2000.00 compaired to the cost of a Generac with installation.The cheapest unit is $2800 plus $1000-1500 for the install

I remember coming across a small stand-up stand-alone generator by Briggs & Stratton. It was about half the size of a regular standalone generator or a third smaller about. I think it was about 7000 - 8000 Watts and about $1,800 but I'm pretty sure that wasn't with a transfer switch hoses and a few other things. Lowe's had this unit but you would get hit pretty hard by the time you get it out the door and taxes. Of course I have seen it online but I don't remember if that's the shipping handling and Freight included. Luckily I'm able to get by with a lot smaller generator on propane. Also on another comment I said in a natural disaster or state of emergency like a tornado, hurricane, flood, snow storm or gas leak they could cut your natural gas, water and electricity off. And most of these utilities are now controlled by satellite like my water and electricity. And I'm sure Natural Gas will probably be controlled by satellite next if it's not already that way.

I've priced Kohler and Generac standby generators and I got estimates of anywhere from $8000-$10000 installed. This solution is way more cost effective.

@@malcolmgregoire1019 I agree the big ones burn too much fuel and you need a smaller one anyway even if you have a big 8 thousand watts in above generator.

Is that snorkel still working properly? I have concerns of it maybe dryrotting or getting to soft and breathing pieces off and getting into the carburetor or the engine?

@@bayoubullion7024 We had a 2 hr. P.F. last week and it started/ran just fine. Haven't actually inspected the snorkel but no problems so far.

@@robertcuthill8484 That's my next question on where in the world are person finding those caps to put the magnet on that holds to the exhaust? I've got a similar situation and the same exhaust, but a different idea to go out the shed and using a square piece of concrete board on both sides so no plastic is near or touching any plastic!!
