Did you know that a lincolin block with a black square in the middle was used in America at the time of slavery? a black square in the middle meant that a slave could go to the home with that quilt on the fence and get help food and shelter? So nice of you to show how to make that pattern. Thank you.

I actually cut out all of the pieces to make a log cabin quilt over 20 years ago, and then life and death and lots more life happened! As a newly retired teacher, I hope to locate my log cabin quilt pieces and finally make my first pieced quilt! FYI: I'm an old quilter. The square in the middle always meant a fireplace and was always red. However, in a funeral or memorial quilt, the center was black or dark and indicated a loved one had died.

HI From San Antonio, TX. I have had a renewed season of quilting since my children are now grown. (Made a few when I was younger, but paused due to busy family and moving around the world (military) and now I have had a resurgence- probably the only good thing to come out of Covid shut downs. I have made about 40 quilts in that time, but have never done a quilt as you go. I have researched, and then hesitate. BUT- you made it look so easy, and I am committing to try this out! Thank you for the very clear explanations! Wish me luck!

Thank you for this video that was focused well and the sound was perfect. I've considered for years to do a log cabin and I like the way you constructed this one. Very clever way to attach the sashing! You are inspiring me to reconsider when I will retire. I thought Jan 2026 but now I'm thinking it should be sooner. Currently I'm 72, a widow, 3-10 hour days with great pay & benefits, lots of growing grandchildren I'm quite involved with, play billards-8,9 & 10 ball, but I sure do love my sewing. Now that I've set up a great spot and have been sewing more, I may have to reconsider that 30 year mark.

This is perfect. I’ve already cut 64 squares out for the back and I got the bedding and I have them to get half inch inch inch and a half bigger than the actual finish block. I like your idea about folding the batting in half. I’ve already basted mine together, but I could fold it even with the two sides together. I don’t think it’s gonna be a big deal. I also measure, but this is very helpful so thank you.
