I am not a quilter and I do not care for the design of a lot of quilts - I prefer the look of simple patchwork quilts. This rectangle/brick layout design I love! Your demonstration was clear and well done.

I agree! As impressive as it is with what all the machines can do these days, it just feels too gawdy and like it misses the point. But this hand-sewn style is so charming. And more talent involved IMO

Thank you for this! I love hand sewing but find hand quilting to be so tedious and repetitive when doing a large blanket, but with this method it’s much smaller and you can change it up by switching between making rectangles and sewing them together! Much easier for us adhd crafters! I also like this method because it’s easier to tuck everything away and take breaks if you need.

Oh my gosh, this is one really beautiful quilt. I just stumbled upon your channel and have been enjoying this video immensely. I have never been much of a quilt person, although I have always admired the handiwork. I am 67 and have only just discovered English Paper Piecing. What a different world this has opened up for me. I am absolutely smitten by the process and look, and this quilt of yours seems to showcase it in such a beautiful way. The mindfulness of slow stitching has brought me such calm and peace… I have never seen such a beautiful quilt. Everything about it sends me and I absolutely love it. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you for showing us this block Rachel. I've caught the EPP bug, which has lead me into this sort of hand work. It's so soothing. It was amusing when you mentioned your nails - I was just thinking that you looked like a 'normal' person (please don't be offended!) as all the other You Tube tutorials look like they're done by hand models rather than real people. So thank you for that too. Thought this block would be good with my many unused jelly rolls, which I couldn't think of anything different to do with them - so thank you for that too lol.

Historically, that was called a flat fell stitch, I believe, and was often used to hand stitch clothing (modern blind-hem stitching is based on that). I usually secure my flat fell stitched with a knotted backstitch. Your stitches are beautifully neat and I love the colors of your quilt!

@TraceyWarneke
@TraceyWarneke 8 месяцев назад
That's how you strengthen cotton thread. If you use a polyester thread wax shouldn't be necessary. I don't use polyester as I have seen when you use 100% cotton fabric, polyester thread is stronger than the weave of the cotton fabric. That can cause the cotton fabrics to split and tear. Many years of washing and wear before that happens. It depends if you expect your quilts to be heirlooms.
@AussieCrimeCases
@AussieCrimeCases 8 месяцев назад
@@TraceyWarneke Im pretty sure she is just adding to the conversation, the different threads were already said. It's actually a tip I forgot and bought polyester after watching this the first time, and now kicking myself because I have the same colour cotton and beeswax here.

Thank you Rachel, your tutorial was really easy to follow and your voice is so calming. Im new to quilting and have watched 4-5 tutorials to see which i would prefer and the English Paper Quilting is great. You have a new follower because you explain each section so easily. Im just trying out small weight bags which are done by a lady called Cappi in the USA just to see how it goes before i spend too much. Im hoping to gather enough fabric to make your quilt ,cant wait an thanks again 😊
