Great to see that someone else is looking to keep the skills of the biker commuity up. I was reading your disclaimer and could not resist to put a grin on my face: DO NOT WATCH THESE VIDEOS AND DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY TECHNIQUES DEMONSTRATED. Well, if you want to improve your skills and get more familiar with your bike, you have to sit in the saddle and train yourself getting more comfortable with the handling and ride safer because then you gain a better saftey buffer. I hope you never need it. By looking only you train your mental ability, learning by doing is the ice on the cake. I hope that your bike get´s out of service soon and we can see more of these videos, good for some people who have to rest during the winter and the bike sleeps, unfortunatly the skills as well. To brush them up spring is a good time. It will take a little practice and some rides until all is back like last season for the next one. Ride safe and return home happy, your family and friends deserve this also. Best wishes PETER

Weather breaking a bit, so I got a chance to practice this morning. Even though I could see how it make perfect sense, I was a little apprehensive incorporating trail braking into cone riding. Turns out it felt natural and made it more enjoyable. I still have a way to go but, your concepts are falling into place. Thanks again Great video.

Incredible to watch! I'm a beginner. How long will it take to be able to make such small circles?
@PoliceMotorTraining
@PoliceMotorTraining Месяц назад
@@stefanhansen5882 well, the short answer is “it all depends” on what your current skill set is, how much time you put in, what type of bike you ride-but if this type of riding is enjoyable for you to develop, it shouldn’t take long. More importantly, as they say in life, the journey is the thing. So embrace the periodic difficulties associated with learning new things and developing your skills and the whole thing will be lots of fun, no matter how fast you get! Joy and discovery-that’s the direction on my Compass every time I throw my leg over the bike. And the great news about that is it has nothing to do with my current abilities.👍It’s available right now.

I'll set this up tomorrow but I need your best time so I know what my goal is. I have an infrared timing system. I'll assume a 10'x5' start stop box.
@PoliceMotorTraining
@PoliceMotorTraining 2 года назад
I never went all out, and my timing wasn't precise so I don't have a "best time." After warming up I was in the mid-high 28's based on timing some recorded runs, could probably repeat 28's without beating the bike too much, 27's would get aggressive with the civilian gearing, I'm guessing it would be the upper limit with this bike. If you drop under 27's let me know, I'll have to shake off the cobwebs and have another go!

@@PoliceMotorTraining thank you for the response! I'm on a supermoto so it's not a fair comparison but I'll give this a run next weekend and post a video of my results. I wasn't able to set it up today.

@@PoliceMotorTraining So I ran this today on the infrared timer. My best was 30.50. I find it hard to believe that you did a 28 on a BMW. I only say that because I'm pretty sure I'm rotating faster. Your bike accelerates faster but I think I can brake deeper on the drz. I know you said you're manually timing while observing the video, so maybe it's a difference in how we time it. I'd love to see your 28 second run though. I'll even kick you a few bucks for the opportunity if you don't want to post it publicly. If you're faster than me, I'll definitely learn something by seeing that run. It's a good course to force a rider to work on getting to full lock from hard braking, so good job on the design. I enjoyed it.

@@atypical_moto No worries, the bike is down for a few weeks getting some maintenance (so no videos for a few weeks) but I will definitely set this back up in the coming weeks and record some runs and let you time them. Yeah I would think a DRZ would run circles around my Beemer, so maybe I'm crazy. Also I'll better define the start/stop location/size. Either way it will be fun to really throw down and see what I can do. I'm pumped you liked the pattern!

@@PoliceMotorTraining Awesome, sounds great. When I ran it, I set my timer beam up on your start stop line, but I put up 4 cones in a 5x10 box, so I had to start and stop in that box for the run to count. Looking forward to your next video!

Quinn, would love to see a video how to get off the rear brake as a crutch. I find myself standing on it to where it eventually gives out. R1200RT shouldn’t be abused like I’m doing.
@PoliceMotorTraining
@PoliceMotorTraining 2 года назад
If you want to run no rear brake altogether, you simply need to slow down and drop in with less speed, as the rear brake settles the bike a bit so it will feel "loose" without. Start very slow and do easy figure 8's. Stay off the rear brake completely until you can run the pattern comfortably. Next- add ONLY rear brake in the pattern (still slow and smooth and easy), with the goal to challenge yourself to see how sensitive you can get with feeling less and less brake input. Over time, you should be able to isolate and modulate the rear brake in such a way as to stop mashing it and still get through a pattern smooth. If you can't, keep slowing down until you can. Once you are smooth and gentle on the rear, eventually add in the other controls. However I recommend doing this with ALL your controls one at a time in a controlled and repeatable pattern (figure 8's) so you isolate each and get familiar with being sensitive in the modulation and individual effect of each as its own part. Then as you use them in an overlapping manner, still challenge yourself to FEEL the individual effects while using multiples. In this way you will become MUCH more in tune with the bike, its controls, and how each one plays a role in the characteristics of whatever situation you find yourself in. In this way I can self diagnose odd problems or challenges I run across and work through the various results by exploring each of the controls.
