I think the most fitting metaphor is Einstein and Bohr, especially if you think Einstein once said to Bohr "God doesn't play dice", which fits perfectly with a boardgame discussion 😂😂😂

I was curious about this too, so I googled it - Quinns has a review of Vinhos on their site that, while not exclusively positive, is really glowing. Basically there's a side of the game he wishes wasn't there, but overall, he really liked it and would happily play it again, and regards it as a hugely successful work of art and even "something I could hold up in both hands (this is a big box, after all) as everything that board games can strive to be." Look up the review, it's a great take on the game by someone it isn't necessarily perfect for but who can appreciate what a fantastic work of design it is.

This review was a while ago I think. Recently he's made a passing (negative) comment about Lacerda's games in an unrelated video (the Targi review). And now this... There is something with this designer's work that seems to be nagging him, and I too hope that he will address that at some point. It does not sound like Quinn to just go on throwing gratuitous disparaging comments about the entire work of someone like that. Especially when one of Lacerda's games (Vinhos Deluxe, as you pointed out) was actually in his collection not so long ago. That makes me extremely curious (note that I don't have any strong opinions on Lacerda's games one way or the other). tl;dr: Why the recent Lacerda hate?

Surprised to see all the Root hate to be honest, I've never played it, I take it that it's a sort of overhyped syndrome where people that love it really bang on about it when it's actually not as good as they make out. I mean it got its own tabletop RPG book and it looks kinda cute.

Actually if you do watch SUSD review more carefully you will catch things which for me solidified my opinion about root.. and I love this game!

I learned On Mars from the manual. Ladies and Gentleman defeated me twice.

The Manual does indeed need some work. It would be forgivable if the player aid didn't have some glaring omissions

Yes it's a super fun game and the idea that the mysogyny is indefensible is pretty ridiculous. Hearing these two dudes fall over themselves to say it's too sexist when they happily play games with all sorts of horrible sexist and racist roles in them.

Especially in a game that very much lampoons those narrow Victorian gender roles (or at least a pretty superficial caricature of them). Let's not forget that it's the person in the woman role who ultimately makes the decisions that determine victory or defeat - the male role just powers the engine.

I played it 3 times and sold it. It didn`t go down well with the games group or the family.
