I cooked it in almond milk with a squirt of agave nectar and a pinch of salt so when it was done it was like porridge. I added banana to it to add some more sweetness. Yum
So true! It's a wonder food and the answer to all of life's problems where eating a nutritional diet is concerned. I've entered into a 90 day fitness challenge as of yesterday and I swear....this stuff is going to be at hand every day of the challenge!
Can someone help me? I bought a bag of quinoa(mediterranean blend) with cherry tomato, spinach and basil. This was in freezer section How do I season? I also bought a bag of seasoned blend of zucchini, broccoli, haricots verts, pease and leeks. Do you think I could serve thrse vegitables on top of quinoa? Do I need to add a meat with the veg.mixture? What seasoning?
I LOVE quinoa! I make it every Sunday to have for the week and it lasts so long in the fridge. So versatile! Eat it cold, warm, breakfast/lunch/dinner. It's the BEST!
I'm very thankful for Danny doing this 101 video! I first found the Bulgar Wheat 101, and cooked it her way-it was great. I am now trying some quinoa I just bought, and now I know how. I love her explaining about it, and showing how to cook, simple, easy, just what we need to know! Thank you Danny!!!
I'm wandering if it's safe and advisable for those who has Rheumatoid Arthritis Disease. I was diagnosed 4 yrs ago. so as I understand seeds is not advisable for those who has Rheumatoid Arthritis. what can you say about this. it's highly anticipated your response and information about this. Due to I wanted to taste that seeds. but I just want to know if safe for us to eat it. Thank you
XxCookieCookiexX hello. Are you free to search the net as a woman in Saidi Arabia, I'm just curious, please forgive, I'm not meaning to be rude, I'm just curious about the woman's culture there.
I keep getting back to this video when I forget how to cook the quinoa. That tells you a lot on how much I cook! I see this video as the best detailed / short / to the point / well explained in just above 5 minutes. Very well put together. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing! I love quinoa. I mix quinoa, pearled barley and green lentils and I cook it the same way as the rice (1:2 ratio). This is my rice substitute! Very delicious! I'm asian, but never crave for the white rice anymore :-))
It's a great alternative to brown rice. A light flavor and good texture makes this so versatile you can incorporate it into almost anything. It soaks in the flavor of any sauce and is light enough to mix into your veggies, breakfast egg dishes and even enjoy a bowl on its own. For us ladies the iron is fantastic and for the men the protein is a great addition to your workout regime. Diabetics and heart patients should definitely find many uses for this in the kitchen.
Just tried quinoa for the first time today. I have been missing out!!!! I'm definitely going to try the breakfast version of quinoa that you suggested. That sounds amazing!
I recently used quinoa in my stuffed bell peppers in place of the rice I typically use. It was wonderful. I used ground turkey, Mexican spices, quinoa, corn, black beans, petite diced tomatoes, avocado, garlic and red onion and then topped with a small amount of sharp cheddar.... Oh my gosh! SO good!
Dani, I love your videos! I wanted to share a quinoa "recipe" with you, to be served as a hot side dish. After the quinoa is all cooked, add freshly grated ginger, orange zest, a little fresh juice from the orange, a pinch of salt, and then you can drizzle on a bit of oil (like sesame oil). It's a delicious healthy side with loads of flavor! (Another option is sprinkling shaved almonds, toasted sesame seeds, or dried cranberries on top.) It's so aromatic, and I like to make this to go with thai stir-fry. Thanks for all your informative videos!
brilliant video, thank you so much. Being a new vegan people keep asking me where I get my protein, now I can tell them all about Keen wa. we just had some with celery, peas and cucumber, with a little turmeric and mixed seasoning, it was delicious. A definite for my meals.
I normally have tri-color quinoa with some sliced mushrooms mixed in. My mom also normally adds some vegetable broth and it really makes the flavor all the more vibrant
I really lovee youuu you're a lifee saverrr i couldn't cook quinoa or oats and many other butt your videos are superb easy and light i could understand it very easily please continue what you are doing!!
+Shena52 Me too. I didn't know about the fat that could go rancid, though. I hope it's not rancid! I bought it on sale at Safeway which means it was probably on the shelf, awhile so I'll figure myself lucky if it tastes good!
I cook the quinoa just as described. I chop fine celery, onions, carrots and colorful bell peppers, cilantro, and fine pressed garlic. You can also add finely chopped spinach. Mix it all up and sauté in a skillet add salt. Then combine with the cooked quinoa. It taste great and so colorful as well. I also do the same thing with cooked barley.
I made Quinoa today. My sister's recipe with BlackBeans, corn, greenBellpepper, jalapeno, onion, cilantro, tomatoes and fresh basil & lime juice served with tortilla chips Next I will try it with shrimp, black bean& etc.... I'm going to try Quinoa with yogurt as well.......thanks
Made Quinoa for the first time in my life this morning :) (not sharing my age lol) ... I am thankful for this channel. I rely on it! Taking my whole family into clean cooking, whole foods and healthy lifestyle. Big change! :)
This is the first time I have tried to learn about this seed. thank you.your explanation was so simple. and encouraging to add this seed to my new way of eating. i have watched other videos by you and always learn so much.
Something that I always do with mine is toast it. It helps make it tender and adds more flavor and it always takes that bitterness away thanks for a great video
I grew up eating rice all my life. I Recently replaced quinoa with rice and I will never go back. I must say, I never thought to have it for breakfast. I will now. Thanks for sharing this.
Made quinoa for the first time yesterday, with the help of this video! Was surprised to see how good it tastes, quite nutty with a bit of a sweet aftertaste. Will definitely be incorporating this into my clean eating meal plan :) Thanks always for your videos, they are a big help!
Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹 sending greetings to you 🇹🇹. I am thinking about trying Quinoa and here you are taking about how amazing it is well i will definitely have to try it .
Hi Dani, I'm learning how to cook and I just bought a Stove Top Vegetable Steamer. I followed your instructions for using the steamer and it came out perfect, I also added a little Tajin to spice it up a bit. My next step is to try your recipe for Quinoa as a breakfast meal. I'm taking it one step at a time and your videos are great - Thanks a lot!
I had tried quinoa, but after I went to Peru and learned a lot more about it, quinoa is now my favorite "grain" and is a regular menu item in my wild game dishes. If you eat a big bowl full of rice you feel sluggish, then hungry again in 2 hours. After eating a bowl of quinoa, I feel energized. I also like cooking it in chicken broth instead of water, (or half and half) giving it even more flavor.
I can't get enough of it. I find myself stocking up on it and I've incorporated it into all facets of my diet. Quinoa is what it is. You could eat it plain and still enjoy it but it's so versatile it begs for creative culinary adventures! I cook only a cup at a time (easier to measure) but I never eat all of it. About half. I have done it with shrimp, chicken, veggies.....everything! It's really good at absorbing flavours no matter the profile.
Quinoa and soy yogurt is one of my 2 year old's favorite breakfasts. I prefer keeping it warm and adding cacao and maple syrup. We also use it in replace of rice and orzo in many meals. Family favorite! (Side note: we normally buy the same brand. I always wash it. Even if the box says pre washed. I just find it tastes a lot better :D)
I like to add quinoa to my rice dishes. It cooks so similar its easy to do. I use my rice cooker and mix equal parts with brown and black rice. The rice cooker cookes everything to perfection. Sometimes I add a can of rotel to spice it up.
Thank you for sharing about Quinoa (including how to spell hahaha). I just bought quinoa seeds on supermarket and after watched your video, I think I know what I have to do. Stay healthy :)
I just started to pre prep my weekly lunches and I wasn't sure if it was normal to eat quinoa alone. Thank you for clearing that up and giving me some other suggestions.
New Subbie. I💜💜💜💜💜QUINOA! Since VSG surgery I can't eat rice etc... Quinoa has been my BEST FRIEND! Quinoa is apart of the spinach family 😉 Great informative video. TFS Be Blessed
Hi I Just adore you Dani. I was searching for overnight oats and your recipe is the best among all. I am Indian and rice is just there always in our meal but I personally love Quinoa and I eat instead of rice all the time. Thanks for all your recipe. Please keep educating us like this.
Great information! I recently became a vegetarian, I tried it a few days ago but didn't like it much, I'm going to try itnext time with the yogurt as you said, thanks for the awesome video!
YOU SPEAK CLEARLY. WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOU IS THAT YOU SHOW AND TELL. WHAT I MEAN BY THAT. YOU EXPLAIN EVERYTHING STEP BY STEP AS YOUR DOING IT AND I GET TO SEE THE END RESULT ( HOW IT SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE ) 😉👏 👍
I love Quinoa but don't cook it often enough. I just purchased a 4c rice cooker used it on Farro or Emmer wheat. Once I figured out the grain to water ratio it is perfect every time. Made Quinoa today using 1 grain to 2 water ratio. Quinoa was rinsed and allowed to drain. Flavored with manzanilla olives, onion, garlic and zaatar seasoning w/splash of vinegar. Perfect flavor and texture. Important to let rest after cooking for 15min to half hr. Then fluff for excellent mouth feel. Thanx for your enthusiasm.
just made my first quinoa dish, I started with toasting the quinoa in a little clarified butter and olive oil, I read somewhere to do this, added some sea salt, cumin, flaked red pepper, dried onion flakes and tsp of minced garlic, it was great, I tossed with some chopped chicken, don't know why I never made this before!
It is a complete protein and it is low in sugar and calories. Its packed with minerals. Moringa is packed with minerals and great for vegans that lack iron and zinc in their diet. Morninga powder is great for energy and weight loss. It is packed with minerals that the body needs on a daily basis.
tq for the amazing video. Am going to buy some Quinoa later and try it tonight with some grilled salmon....and I may even start my day with some Quinoa and yogurt with some prunes....wonderful. I like the fact that it can make you feel full for hours!
Hello Dani, nice video, most all quinoa has either been pre-washed or dry polished to remove the protective covering saponins from the seed, but one should always wash prior to cooking, as there's most lightly residues left behind. Fabulous taste & superior to any other cereal. All the Best.
I enjoy learning about what we eat. The backstory and science about our food makes dining on that ingredient more interesting. Great video filled with a lot of knowledge. Excited to try Quinoa!
My only quibble with this video is your stating that it is a "complete protein." The whole idea of "incomplete proteins" is a myth, so long as you are eating whole, natural foods. As long as you are eating sufficient calories from varied whole foods, proteins and amino acids are not going to be a problem.
+Kanga Banga ...That would only be true if you are one of those .01% of people who has the time and $$ to have a perfectly balanced diet from a trained nutritionist. And amino acids are very important, not only for muscle repair, but as hormone and neurotransmitter regulators. As a CFT, I can't tell you how many "depressed" people I started training, on loads of psyche drugs... that no longer needed them once I adjusted their diet properly. In the real world with an average working person, (especially if you are a vegetarian or consume little meat or dairy), getting the kind of varied foods that include all the essential proteins is quite challenging. Possible, but it takes ALOT of meal planning. If something like Quinoa can easily supply the non-essential Aminos that the body cannot produce, then it is a very valuable dish to quickly add into your normal foods on the go...
Thanks Dani! Love Quinoa! I was always afraid to make it and use it in different ways, so this video helped take the fear out of making and storing it. I frequent a veggan take out place near me that makes the best quinoa salad that has quinoa, pineapple chunks, pistachios (or chopped macadamia), dried cherries and green & red peppers, using a little pineapple juice for a lite flavoring! Now I am going to try to make it, Yum!!!
I used to sautee cubed butternut squash in olive oil and onions until they were soft, then mix it with quinoa for a delicious hearty meal. Sometimes I would add shrimp scampi on top of that. Wow that was delicious. Gotta make it again!
I wanted to like quinoa, but apparently it's the only food I've ever found that I'm allergic to. Made me shit my brains out with terrible stomach cramps, washed it correctly and everything before cooking.
My Aunt told me to throw it in a skillet to dry it and it helps the flavor pop! I love doing this and adding in garlic then adding the water once it's dry.
Um, you are very nice and have allot of good info and ideas but I if I may suggest that you do some research on proper or optimal digestion because if you mix protein with fruit it won't digest completely. And mixing dairy into the mix is gonna make it even harder for your body to digest. Proteins are best eaten by themselves or with leafy vegetables. Fruit is also best digested by itself or eaten with leafy vegetables or more fruit as long as you don't mix acid or sub-acid fruit with sweet fruits. Peace/Love
Thank you, very informative video. I never rinsed my quinoa before now, and now that I do my quinoa tastes significantly better :D However, I would take out the 'complete protein' remark. The whole complete vs incomplete protein narrative is made up to sell whey protein powder to people who believe that they will lose all their muscles if they are 'protein deficient.' Thank you of this video about Quinoa! I am just beginning to use it in my own kitchen and I am trying to make sure I prepare it correctly and how to use it. This video sure has helped me out! I remember having it for breakfast when I was in Peru a few years ago, but I had not clue how to prepare it or even that it has become so popular here now.
your suggestion with the greek yoghurt is amazing! i make this my breakfast very often :) perfect in connection with my workout and the everyday issue of getting very less proteins in that period of time during the day when you actually need it.
lorechelle71 Just stop replying back to me and live your life! Talk a walk, go to the park and maybe read a book. Get off the internet! I wish you all the best.
Thank you for your detailed video. There is one concerned that I think that should be spoken about. Even if it's free washed or not there are antinutritional factors, saponins, that cause leaky gut in the intestinal mucosa. Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa) is a pseudo-grain. That bitterness is the saponins and it should be soaked for a minimum of two hours to overnight. And then rinsed and then cooked. This information was not out in the open before but now that it's known it needs to be shared. So yes rinsing it is great but if you can get that little germ to come out and partially germinate and soaking process you release the saponins that make even organic quinoa toxic. I know we're all fighting something and trying to find out what's best and let me tell you I have an egg allergy and quinoa is a perfect protein as stated in the video. It's definitely going to have to be a staple in my diet for the amino acids and the flexibility that quinoa has. But the last thing you want to do is eat something you think you're doing good for yourself and actually cause leaky gut syndrome on top of an already inflamed or healthy system. So from this day forward understanding that at least soak your quinoa for 2 hours then rinse it and then cook it. It's the only way to get rid of that toxic compound rinsing it just isn't enough especially risking your gut health. Don't trust the company to wash something when you know you could do it better.
Thanks for sharing this hon! I’d seen someone else share it too. I will take it to heart. I plan to cook some with goldenrod leaves for my inflammation issues (arthritis) and I have found the goldenrod DOES work when I’m hurting. I’ll be glad when it starts blooming locally too so I can experiment with it even more. Blessings!
thanks a lot for this video. now i know why it always had such a strong bitter aftertaste. made it yesterday and rinsing it really made suuuch a huge difference!
Well done, thanks for clearing up the pronunciation as well as the storage tips. I've only had quinoa a few times and its quite good. I'll be searching for a few ways to prepare it. The breakfast suggestion is a great one, thanks.
Thank you, thank you ,thank you!! I appreciate your clear and simple demonstration! Im making the transition to clean eating for my family, and your channel has given me the confidence that I can do it!
